Go here (http://babelfish.altavista.com/)
and type in the url of any blocked site, set it to be translated to English and voila!

As someone who constantly pushes the limits because of the limitations his institute offers, I advise that if you don't want to get your ass kicked by the administration, use it wisely...

Sometimes you can get around filters by leaving out the "www". It works for me on this site at least.
Clever idea using BabelFish though.

search for a site through www.ask.com and when you actually go to the site your URL will still start with www.ask.com and as long as your admins allow ask.com, it'll get through.

If you use a proxy site such as tunnelproxy.de it will also make sure no traces are left on the computer, so it can't be detected.

Note the "S" as in secure. Usually works on proxy sites (mega proxy isnt unlimited bandwidth unfortunately) and some forums (not his one tho :( )

If your IT techs are like my IT techs, they'll watch what you do and block the proxy sites. If you've signed some agreement with your educational institute, they can also get your access restricted.
Just play it safe and do it at home. You should be doing MS Word or something.

Mmmm. I have a couple of techniques. none work at my school, but they might for you.
1. Open up ms powerpoint and start a new webpage. Just put a link to the filtered site. Then click preview, and click the link.
2. when you login, hit ctrl+alt+del. And close all the programs running. Keep doing this until the decktop has loaded.
There is one that works btw, but probably won't for you. We have something called 'diskkeeper lite' on our computers. Before the login screen, sometimes a popup comes up randomly. You click "buy full version" and a webpage comes up. That internet window had no filters.

Could you maybe do a DNS lookup at home, e-mail the IP address of the website to school and then type it into the browser address bar from there?
You can try doing a DNS lookup at http://www.network-tools.com, although I dunno if that's the best place.
A few notes on this: it certainly doesn't work on every site (I just tried it on weebls-stuff and zfilter to no avail), and also if for some reason the server changes IPs, the address might work any more.
if its an active filter like our school then deleteing the http://www. does the trick
so it'll be weebls-stuff.com/forums

People who use proxies to surf here, are generally upto no good.
As such - they will be banned (The proxy).

True... I think the majority of people that use proxies are doing dodgy things.
I just wanted a way to download zip's, exe's and mp3's at college. You also can't go on faceparty... B*stards!!

At my college, although we are running on a linux / Win XP / Novell network, Novell have this thing called Border Manager which can be got around by using Netscape or Opera... i dont know why but it works if you have these... i know the Mozilla has a downloadable browser whichc does not need installing, this would also work!!

Find any website that uses a translator involving cgi, and it'll work. Or a proxy using cgi for that matter.

It all boils down to what type of network your school has got running. I do some of the IT stuff for my high school and we've got it running through novell and border manager, if its using that, B.M. blocks out specific words and phrases ect, so like on my school net we couldn't go to any site with "hot naked sex" in it but "sex" or "the" etc is fine.
The way that I find works to get around it is using a different browser, firebird can do the trick in most cases.

Here's a thought, why not get on and do school work at school and don't bother trying to beat the school blockers?
save it for when you get home.

Well there's all sorts of situations at school when you might want to get online like that, free periods where you surf the hell away, classes like art or web page where its sorta required, or if anything like me maybe plug in your laptop after school to surf the net. Like i am doing right now visiting here.:weebl: :weebl: :weebl:

Dont know if u can do this with all novell networks but at my school you can unplug the network cable and restart. When the novell login screen comes up you can just cancel that and the follwing windows login, then when the desktop comes up I can just plug back in and browse the internet with no fear of banning through use of proxys, etc... as long as I sit in the darkened corners of the room im usually fine unless they have torches

That only works if the workstation your on is still running Windows 95 or 98. Windows 2000 and XP however require a login if one is set.
Even so, a School network running Novell would have the blockings still intact because the site has to go through the filter before it can reach the computer in any situation. When I plug my laptop into the school I don't log on or anything but I still get certain sites blocked out.

Huzzah! When I was browsing the net in Social Ed last two periods today, I stumbled upon a forum with a link to the Patrick Moore toon.
I dunno about the rest of you but our school's filter list has blocked out anything to do with Weebls-stuff. Weebl.jolt.co.uk is totally fine but the toons are offlimits...until now!

Just use the link above and you should be able to negotiate through all the toons. I couldn't click on Games because then it changed to weebls-stuff.com/games but I'm sure you could just use the link and /games instead of /toons...I ran outta time at school so I dunno.
Actually...I think you need to add the flash file to the link...
EDIT/ The weebl.fluent.itd.uk URL is advertised on the banners on the news page :p Nice. winking Jontis and all.
Zola, you are a genius...finally i can get through that crappy symantec web filter
My school kindly took my net acsses away when i ran feetman on one of there computers.Stupid idiots thought it was a trojan.

Bess?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Bess is one dumb dog. However, if the techies who operate it at your school are as diligent as the techies who operate it in my school district, they actually do monitor what you do and have already blocked all the cgi proxy sites before you can get to them.
It's a crying shame that W&B are blocked at your school, but most of the other stuff you can't get to is blocked not to protect you from yourself, but to protect the school from liability. I'm sorry but it's a sad fact of modern life you will have to get used to.
For some reason, the school systems of the free world want you to use their comnputer systems as learning tools, not fun browsers and porn machines. Poopy attitude, yes, but you are supposed to be in school to learn useful stuff like History and Language Arts and Science and Maths and Underwater Basket Weaving, not pr0n \o/.
As for me, I personally don't care what kind of crap the students get into on the Web as long as they are not destroying the computers I have worked so hard to keep working for the little ingrates.:p
Let the school administration lose sleep over whether Little Johnny or Stinky Suzie sees nekkid wimmen doing it with horses and pigs. At least I can still get my job done.
Just so I don't come off sounding meaner than I really am, I am sorry that you are having trouble accessing something as harmless as W&B at school. I honestly do sympathize with your plight and wish there were something I could do about it. My day would be incomplete if I couldn't access my PMs and vote for Mat's Sprite Comic.

Ooooh, can't wait till Monday to try some of these out.
The techies at my school watch everything you do and block the sites as they find them, sometimes they send you little PMs telling you to get on with your work.
I think I could probably get round the blocker if my school didn't use crappy MACs!

I did it! I used babelfish and am now on at school.
The reason weebl and bob got blocked (Well weebls-stuff) got blocked is some kid in a lower year went on rathergood and saw some animation of a chicken and a rabbit. They blocked his entire history and annoyingly weebl was on that at the time.

It truely is sad for schools to be so strict on those types of things, I can understand them not wanting porn and crud like that but getting to the point of where they're monitoring your every move! Yikes!
I work with our school net administrator on the servers all the time and the school system would have to go over every log file daily and do this round the clock, because the server log files are just that, extremely long logs of ip addresses, site names, image names, and text all in one or more giant files. Tis just sad.
Our net is only blocking out the really bad sites, but they aren't monitored, I got porn once on accident on sites when I was getting emulators for a after school lan party...good times.
In short, whats this world coming to!

what is a lan party?
The forums just don't work on the computers at my school... They are just shit with 2x5 resolution it seems...
I actually witnessed the schools system for blocking sites the other day...
A selection of teachers pets (Not just hard workers, they really do kiss the it techs ass) are told to check peoples computers every so often. If a pupil is seen on the net, teachers pet runs over to teacher, tells him the pupils name, teacher runs rm tutor and bam,is viewing his entire history and blocking it.

Ouch. Nothing like that goes on at our school, though I think when I was in Computing once, my teacher saw that I was on Weebls-stuff and I think she blocked all my history :/
Luckily I hadn't been on the episodes list :D
And using weebl.fluent.itd I can get around it onto the toons list without being on weebls-stuff.

A lan party is when you hook a bunch of computers together and play multi-player games with each other, like say, all my friends and I verse eachother Battlefield 1942, Doom, RT Wolfenstein, UT2004, excetera.
In that case we played some classic console games and DOOM together on different coms in the school net. It's loads of fun!

Forums.weebls-stuff.com, NOW LOL.
This is like how I used to get around the MySpace ones at college.
By using all of the foreign URL addresses (fr.MySpace.com, De.MySpace.com, etc.) and each time they blocked one, there was always another.
Never worked with Facebook though. Universal login page....
