Not to alarm anyone, I just want to inform about those who do not know about Half Life 2.
Hackers stole approximately 1/3 of the HL2 source code. Not only has this delayed the HL2 launch to April 2004, there are now new pictures, and actual HL2 levels that are playable, surfing around on the Black Market/Webpages of the Internet.
Now, lets talk about this issue.

those kind of hackers sux0r, hl2 is gonna be a good game hope there will be a cs mod too :D
They stole the source code which includes the anti-cheat code. Valve have to re-write it or there will be aimbots,wallhacks,god knows what else available before the game is even released.

Yes, and we don't want any cheats in our games. It would be like playing Counterstrike with a Machine gun with infinite ammo, 1 hit kills, explosions with the ammo hitting anything, and the person being invincible- like shooting fish in a barrel!!!
Still, not like my computer could run it...

But seriously, if you are that crap at playing games that you need to steal the source code to make you godlike then you should not have loaded the game to your computer to begin with.

Being crap at a game shouldn't matter, it's just a game. You play to have fun. Cheating removes the fun element from the game.

i think the hackers probably did it more for the challenge of getting their hands on a copy of one of the most highly anticipated PC games ever, than for whatever cheating benefits it would bring.
also i suspect valve might have been a bit late anyway, and the hacking excuse was as good as any to push the release date back til april, rather than rush it.

Hmm I dont think there are any levels floating about though, because code is just code, not graphics and pictures and stuff, unless they are some uber l337 developers too... then maybe, but otherwise I think its just the code

this source code + beta leak has made a playable version of the game available for me but i decided not to
because in dont want to play it until its completa and i am willing to pay 45/56 pleuros for it

But the game itself is finished, has been for ages - Valve themselves have already said that. More likely what initially delayed it is the marketing and distribution side of things, vivendi cashing in on Christmas. It's not like it hasn't been done before with near enough every other major game in the history of games ever...
