I know that there are some budding artists out there.

People whose talents extend beyond MSPaint or even a smooth chop and paste in photoshop.

People who still use paint, pastels, watercolour, clay, ice, faeces, whatever.

If you have a piece of artwork you are particularly proud of then please post it here. If necessary, put it in context with a little explanation.

I'll get the ball rolling.

This is one from my AS Level Art days.

http://img51.photobucket.com/albums/v157/Scrambled/art.jpg

Drawing inspiration from the work of Barbara Kruger (look her up - fascinating artist), this piece is mixed media - oil paint and paper on 4' x 2' hardboard. It was the final piece resulting in an in depth study into the role that brand labels play on our society. The pressures and expectations placed on a teenager from their choice of clothes. This piece took obvious connotations from advertising and mixed them with a shocking scene.

Got me an A though.

Feel free to discuss this or post your own work.

One from my A/S level too -

http://members.lycos.co.uk/kissingkats/art/notonwebsite/peppers.jpg

We were doing a project on fruit and vegetables and how you could transmogrify them into something entirely different. I took a pepper in with me and cut it in half looking for inspiration. I kept on looking at it from different angles - underneath, from the top, sideways etc. Then inspiraton struck! I loved the soft, almost velvety skin inside and the seeds, so decided this would be the basis of my work. The inside of a fruit or vegetable seems to me to be a very private thing almost taboo, all hidden inside its skin like clothing. By exposing the insides like this it makes me think of the first time you reveal your nude body to your lover; delicately erotic.

I used oil pastels and my nails. :P

...I'll stop with the artsy bollocks now!

I got an E though. ;)

I have been interested in art for a long time but when college started I kind of forgot about it.

Anyway I made this painting in grade 9 when i was about 14. It was when I was taking an oil painting class and we had to do a study of a copper kettle and cup.

Had to delete and add myself to the end 'cos my file server is bust (and I can't attatch an image in an edit) but nevermind:

This is a selection of pages from my Visual Diary from 1st year of degree. You had to put images about the modern world, yourself and your influences into a craft diary which you then make a flash website based upon. My influences are: Pop Art, The Media and Digital Art.

Yes, I can make wonderful blinkies, but did you know I'm also a young budding artist?! Muhahaha. Ha...

I bet none of you expected!!!!

Well, maybe some of you did.

Anyway, I've finally copyrighted my pics that I've taken of some of my works. Some are a bit fuzzy, but I spose that's better for me in discouraging people to take them. :p

Okidoki, this first one is just a drawing of dragons down with water colour pencils (but I didn't water it). I actually drew this one sometime last year when I was first starting to get my head around dragon anatomy. I was greatly inspired by Ruth Thomson, and I looked at a drew what I saw from one of her pieces. (I didn't trace it, but I just needed to learn how to draw dragons properly).

http://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v164/sazza_13/sazza/dragon_fight2.png

Okay, this one is the two covers of Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire and The Order of The Phoenix. (As you can tell, I'm a tad obsessed with the fanasty genre of art.)

http://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v164/sazza_13/sazza/hp_covers2.png

Gotta love printing! I made this one by carving my design into a square of lino and printing it on gold card. It turned out really well. (It's a phoenix for those of you who can't tell.)

http://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v164/sazza_13/sazza/phoenix2.png

Once again, another dragon, this time totally of my own creation. He's green, his name is Bruce, he hasn't got a background [yet] and he's not just suspended in mid air okay?! He is standing on a mountain and the moon is framing his head. :)

http://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v164/sazza_13/sazza/green_dragon2.png

Now, this first painting I did last year as part of my studies into Fauvism. It is a shark. It is not the wrong way around. It is dead. It has been strangled by a net. (At our school art exhibiton they had it upside down. Grr.)

http://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v164/sazza_13/sazza/shark2.png

Okay, this is my last one I swear! This canvas was originally supposed to be a beach landscape, but one day I was really angry and upset so I just put red paint onto it and, well, you see the result. I don't know what it is yet, kinda looks like a red tornado on the horizon.

http://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v164/sazza_13/sazza/torando2.png

Oh, I also do my own tattoo designs, but I haven't got any on the computer. I plan to get one of a baby dragon when I turn 18. :D

...anyway, I decided to dig out my old figure drawings dated 2001.

Most of these are charcoal on newsprint, unless otherwise noted.

i did a self portrait last night, but i don't have a scanner or a webcam, so i did my own "artists impression" of my drawing.

note that it wasn't possible to do shading or highlight or anything, so it doesn't look as good as it should do.

pretty good for MSPaint ay?

I love them Sloth. :) They look so expressive. I really dislike how sometimes drawings can look so controlled and polished (I've done it myself in the past & yes it can look good), but to me at least those kinda drawings take the fun outta art! You spend such a long time getting it just so that by the end of it you are completely insane (Again this is me, like things done quickly). :P Edit: Hmm not sure if that sounds right.

Anyway, here's Brian's (;), dunno his name really) chest! :) -

Did this in my art foundation, life drawing class - I wanna do more! :( We were told to draw like we were really pissed off with something/someone (we were also given five minutes to do it); I really like the result!:D

I wish I could learn to draw that well with a pencil... im not very good at doing tone and shading and such. :( Realism is not good for my mind because it makes me feel awful when I can't draw it. So I stick to things I know I can draw or things that aren't defficult to paint.

Here's one I did last year, my drawing style has evolved since then :p No worries, I just noticed that I always draw with biros too, which is what I did this one in, and some random red pen...
Also, the pic thats earlier on the forum that I did's in black biro, I might go and buy pencils...

[I meant to post this earlier]

Thanks Katox! I'm a big fan of charcoal, its one of my favorite mediums. It not that I don't like clean perfect looking drawings... its just I have no luck with it. If I tried to draw like, say, the Kernal... I'd be lucky to make a good drawing out of 10.

I always have to draw quick and fast. If I prepare too much I'll never finish. Most of the time, if I do prepare, things end disappointedly.

In fact, in my most favorite medium, oil, my professor and I set up an idea for me to paint 25 paintings on paper... limiting the time on each one to about one class period [about 3 hrs]...

I'll get some of those up when i can... but i'll warn you.. they are all abstract...

i like them feet...

heh I found this somewhat embarassing painting... I do believe it was my first oil on primed canvas...

http://www.mediocreconartist.com/images/random_pics/charcoal/00.JPG

attached is one of those oil on papers... [the paper is print making quality, not sure what weight though.]

I was playing with the paper's ability to soak in the paint... which was thinned down in Turpenoid [a much safer synthedic replacement for turpentine]

the figures and other lines are oil pastel...

Now as some of you know, I post my unworthy computer stuffs about the forum. And I think this has led some people to thinking I cant draw by hand. I actually draw about 500000 times better by hand then by computer.

So in a horrific double-post, I will show two peices of crap I have drawn. I dont have a working scanner, so I had to use my fathers scanner. Bleh!

Once I showed the Colonel a Flash cartoon I had made and he said to me:

Well done. Not the product of a healthy mind, but well done anyway.

I beleive that to be the nicest thing he ever said to me.:D
But he is also right. I draw some BIZARRE shit. Look at my deviantart webpage if you dont beleive me. (sig linky)

Here are the spirits of Happiness, Sadness, and Anger.

Now this might count as cheating, but this is mostly made by hand. I drew and colored it by hand, then I shaded it with a computer. But its still about 85% hand-drawn.

My flower for art...

I drew my flower for art and my dad gets waaay too serious about art, and drawing..he thinks he is the best ( ), and then he said "Kelsey, I'm just trying to teach you basic techniques" then I said "I'd rather teach myself ", then he got all sarcastic and then I left the room, and I came back, and he was all trying to be friends, then I said "dad, whatever" then he saiid, "fine, I'm not gonna see you on Thursady, I'm going now" he got up, and I was like "fine, bye" then he left

So, moral of the story..NEVER SHOW YOUR FATHER YOUR ART WORK COS HE THINKS IT WILL BE SHIT (this really only applies to poopa..but yes)

ok here is another old painting... old, because I haven't been able to paint [work, lazy, lack of inspiration]. This is oil on canvas, about 24 inches by 18... guessing. It was a quickly done painting. I was hoping to have it done and dry before finals, heh. It ended up being my professor's favorite.

hrmmm... lemme see... got some pics around here somewhere that i could post, ive always been fascinated with the art of photography, not just the 'snap a few pics and drop the film off at the developers' side of it. Took a class last summer that was all about photography and film developing and loved it, got a few pics from it that ill post if i can get my scanner to work, but that seems bleak at best to begin with.

I dont particularly like digital photography, not because its not wonderful and very nice, but just because im kinda a snob and a hermit, and the idea of spending hours in a darkroom appeals to me. I like tinkering with everything and adjusting levels, and truth be told, i kinda like the fumes too, though mainly just because they were rather peaceful times that i spent in the darkroom, so it conjures up good memory associations.

Nothing too special about this pic, i just developed a strong liking to it.
