Welcome to the Roulette stock market.

this is a test thread, which may result in further stock exchanges.
kudos to gxfu for the initial idea
if this works, someone else may take over and run it.

1. the starting prize is 50 rupees for 1 share

2. whenever a buying transaction is done (the buying of 1 or more shares by one person), the prize will go up with 2,5% per share. when you buy 3 shares, the second will be 2,5% more expansive than the first, the third will be more expensive than the second etc.

2a if a buyer doesn´t pay, other buyers after him will get a refund according to the price change. (ie all shares after the non-payer will be 2,5% cheaper)

3. whenever a selling transaction is done (the selling of 1 or more shares by one person), the prize will go down with 2,5% per share.

4. if you buy or sell multiple shares at once, they no longer go for the same price. Every share after the first will be cost 2,5% less or more than the one before.

5. do not donate money immediately, or expect money to be donated to you instantly. post here what you want to buy or sell, and i will take care of the finances according to the prizes at the moment of your post. this of course, may take some time.

6. Why buy a share?
For each share you have, you´ll get a percentage of the profit of the Roulette wheel. The percentage depends on the number of shares sold: 50 shares means 2 percent per share. the percentage will never be more than 5% regardless of the total number of shares. when you have multiple shares yourself, the percentage could be more than 5%

7. also, whenever the bank wins in Roulette, the price of a share will go up 10%. whenever the bank loses, the price of a share will drop 10%.


8. why trade shares?
you can make money purely by trading! try to buy shares when they´re cheap, and sell them when they´re expensive!

9. I will regularly post updates here with an overview of who´s got shares, what people who ordered shares must pay, and how much people selling shares will receive.

10. there is no set maximum number of shares. We'll see if we can get a natural max...

this will be some work, and all criticisms and ideas are welcome...
if this can be incorporated into some bigger stockmarket, i´m all for it :)

Edit: Now that I got my purchase on the record, I can make some comments. Brilliant idea PoofBird! gxfu's stock market didn't really make sense, but since the roulette thread is like a business, there are factors to affect stock price. A suggestion: once a bunch of shares are purchased (100?), assuming that happens, stop selling them. Then, the shareholders can sell their shares to people at whatever the price is at that moment. That would make it like a real stock.

PB, read up if you didn't catch my last edit. I also have a question. If you lose money on the roulette wheel, do we have to pay a percentage of that loss? I would assume so if you want this to be realistic and to work well, but you didn't mention it.

The ideas great, and withing the betting area, it would work great if all the thread owners where to work together with the stock market.

However, the problem is every other thread. The non-profit threads. What exactly would I gain from buying a share in say..'Pics of you'. Yes, it would mean that I 'own' 5% or whatever the rate is at that moment, but 5% of what? The only way would be to buy a share in the threads owner, and I dont think thats a good idea at all.

Basically, I think the stock market would work well in betting threads, but outside non-profit threads might be difficult....though I am getting ideas on how it could, and I mean COULD work..*thinks*

it might be realistic for you to pay when i loose, but it would be impossible to carry out...
i´d have to trust all of you, and i don´t ;)

besides that, the roulette always wins in the end, statistically.
and i don´t care for the winnings, i have all i need. i´ll be happy to deal them out in a game like this.,

i probably will stop selling them at one point. not sure when though, we´ll have to see how it goes.
probably we´ll get a natural point where shares are both sold and bought.
the popularity of the roulette itself may also effect this. if no-one bets, the dividend is low.

Well, you don't get reverse dividends, but if a company loses money, the share price generally goes down. But in this scenario, the price would not necessarily go down if the roulette table loses money, since people would not necessarily sell. By making us pay for losses, people would be more inclined to sell, further driving the price down. I think it would make it more realistic that way.

where do you get that 50%?

in theory they get all the profits, except never more than 5% per share (in case there are less than 20 shares around)
with 20, every share gets 5
with 50, every share gets 2
with 100, every share gets 1

when i find i am loosing too much money on this myself (i don´t think i will), i might deal myself in for 10% or so... but probably not.

Added together gives 50%, so 50% of the profits would go to shareholders, and 50% to yourself.

it has a max of 5% per share, but will naturally get less when there are more than 20 shares

currently, the divident is 2,22% per share

now, since the bank lost, the price of shares is going down.
also, no divident is paid, as there is no profit.

it was: 76 rupies

it now is 71 rupies

you may sell your shares at any time, if you don´t trust the divident.
but remember, statistically the bank always wins in the end, so the shareholder does too.

I was just thinking, and I believe I found a small flaw in the mechanics of this system. If someone were to sell you a share, the price would go down, yes? They could then immediately buy it back at a lower price, and make a small profit. Doing this repeatedly or with many shares could provide a way to easily exploit the system.
If anybody tries to do this before PoofBird has a chance to think about it, bad things will happen. Bad things.

and, to keep this thing going, the bank (moi) will need some income.
I´m not in it for the profit, but if it´s going to cost me money, the game will die. Also: this is a game like anyother, and games get more fun when there is a little risk involved.

Now, another important thing:
change in the price calculation
currently, the prices rise or fall with 5% after each transaction. This proofs not to work realistic when people buy or sell multiple shares.
Averagely, there are 2 shares per transaction, so i´m setting the percentage at 2,5% per share per transaction.

What does this mean for you?
If the price is, say, 150, and you want to buy 4 shares, all four shares will cost 150 rupies. After that the price rises with 4 times 2,5% cummulatively.
150 +2,5% = 154
154 +2,5% = 158
158 +2,5% = 162
162 +2,5% = 166

If you don´t agree with this, you can always sell your shares.

Buy buying it I make the shares go up to 169. So the next thing I do is selling the share. I earn 4 rupies, the share owners neither gain or loose anything and PoofBird looses 4 rupies.

the entire idea is to start trading... selling for a profit is a smart thing

it's not a money scheme to just buy a share and sitting it out.

if you hang on to your shares, the dividend will grow lower and lower, but the price goes up.

at some time, selling is more interesting than dividend...
but then the price goes down, and other people will buy for the dividend.

I fully encourage selling your shares :)

just not the quick selling and then buying again scheme.
