View Full Version : Poker
Just wondering if anyone here plays poker, either on or offline.
I recently got into Texas Hold'em and I thought it might be cool if we had a weebl tournament thingy on one of the online sites (for fake cash).
This all depends on the number of people willing to participate but IF this goes ahead, I'm willing to give the winner a custom title of their choice.

If people could recommend free software that you can organise games on, that would be great.

I use pokerroom.com, you can set up private tables on there and you can either use a java front end or the downloadable software.

is texas hold em the same as texas scramble
where there is 4 comunal cards laid in the middle and each person recieve one card at a time betting each time till you have three cards
In TH you each get dealt 2 cards, and 5 to the table, the best combination of 5 cards is your hand.

i get it, it is a variation on texas scramble

::cough:: stealing my idea ::cough::
I started a Texas Hold 'Em game on the forums a few weeks ago, and we played one hand, but people were taking too long to make their bets, so the thread sort of died after that.
But maybe it will work well if we play off-site, as skoo suggested.
To steal someones idea, you must first have seen their idea. ;)
Anyways, does anyone know of anywhere I can get single player poker?
Sometimes its nice to play at a slower pace.

Sorry, I'm not really angry at you or anything, but the rest of us tend to get yelled at for things like this (when we don't use the search button to see if a thread existed before).
Anyway, how could you play single player poker? That's like single player soccer (football for you across the pond). Just play solitaire or free cell or something. I don't think single player Hold 'Em exists.
By the way, Yahoo! Games has Hold 'Em, and it's very easy to sign up if you don't already have an account. And it's free, and there's nothing to download.
Have you never heard of single player football? There is a magic thing called artificial intelligence that you play against :p
Edit: didnt know Yahoo did poker, checking this out - ta
Edit2: Yahoo poker sucks and even if I DID see a poker thread, there certainly wasnt an ACTIVE one. I aint bumping old threads only to derail them.

Christ, the pace sure is fast. I already lost $500, not getting decent hands..

where are you playing
www.pokerroom.com
I agree with the pace being fast, thats one reason I'd like a single player poker game so I dont have to rush and make mistakes while I'm learning.
If we were to have a weebl table on there, we could slow the pace down to suit.

What's wrong with Yahoo! poker? I've only played it once, but I remember it being pretty good.
And I only mentioned the other poker thread because of this sentence in your first post:
Just wondering if anyone here plays poker, either on or offline.
Anyway, it doesn't really matter. Find a good poker site and work out the best way to do this so we can start a tourney. 10 people is ideal. Or 20, or 50, if there is a lot of interest.
Making a private table on www.pokerroom.com check the private table tab and look for "skoo"

Skoo, I hate to look like a fool, but i can't find the private table tag...
I did a search on that site for your user name and it said you were on table 4...
Click play, and then in the java window click private tables at the top
Edit: when you request to join, mention weebl so i know its a forum user

This well could be my problem, as i cannot connect to the server...
It is currently on attempt 5, so once again i have been defeated by the annoyance that is my uni network...
Edit:
Yeah, it is my network...
dammit, i can't join in.
Oh well, you all have fun...
More than likely.
Edit: If you find a site that will work for you, let us know so we can move. Jonny and myself are currently on a private table awaiting more of you
Edit we currently have a 4 player game going, when you request to join say "weebl" to be added
Update: Game over (for now) Thanks to all who played, I had a blast!

Yeah, we should plan ahead next time, it was still a pretty good turnout for a spur of the moment thing.

skoo did you get my idea in the pm i sent you
Yeah, its a great idea. Depending on the turnout, we could either say winner takes all or 3rd place and up get a prize.

09-05-2004, 09:07 PM
ye if we get a full table and evryone places in 20 rupies(doesnt matter how much) then after say 15 hands the winner takes all or money is placed between 1st 2nd and 3rd

Think it would have been better using UltimateBet.com
easy download software, you can replenish your chips when you run out easily and you can set the amount that you want to use in a game, so for example we could all put in 50 rupies and use $500, then at the end of the game, you divide the amount you have by 10 and you get that many rupies back...
You can do everything you just said in www.pokerroom.com and it comes in 2 flavours (java and downloadable).

Well I'll be sure to look out for this. I'm guessing its gunna be at an arranged time rather than spur of the moment.
Hopefully Ill be able to keep up the run of flushes

id be up for it
ive played 3 games of poker - ive won 2 of them (in a row) so far and that was playign against people who have been playing for years - its good fun if it's for fake money, of loads of 2p's from a tin that go back in the tin at the end
Riiiiight, Here is the deal with pokerroom.com
It would seem that when you first make your account, you get moved to a different set of servers for a few days, kinda like a trial. So if anyone makes a new account, the chances are, they wont find the "older" players.
This is pretty sucky, but the pokerroom.com UI is actually quite nice. It also has downloadable and java versions.
Sooooo... what the hell do we do? I hear that PartyPoker.com or maybe pokerstars.com are good, but does anyone have any experience with these to confirm/deny it?
I'm up for a game right now, so lets try and get something sorted for today.

Argh, that does suck. Didn't notice that..
I'll sign up for those two and see what they are like, because it would be nice to work something for today.
