If my bets and shares come through I will be starting an unpredictable and un-riggable (which should please that swine FatManSkinny) betting competition! Predicting the News! Every week I will create 2 topics with many ways which they can play out. These will all be to do with politics etc.

I was wondering if somebody with more money would like to help me start this and make it work just PM me. I'm looking at Angry Paul and PoofBird. If not It should be starting very soon.

Thanks

Edit: Sorry didn't say. Feel free to flame me or post helpful ideas and comments

I like the idea, but i won't invest any money in it till i see some more rules, and let the game run a few times

if it works and people have fun, we might discuss some help with funding.

Would it be like when a story unfolds in the paper, you bet to see where it goes, or the likelyhood of something occuring?

Thanks to Everybody.....Zackron especially

The Full rules are below

(Current Affairs Betting Service

Thanks to all those who have shown interest in my new, exciting venture into the world of gambling on the future!
Many of you have re-“pied” to my thread showing interest and some even offered to invest in the idea. I will move onto those people later.
Firstly to those people who think that they would enjoy my service. I believe that the rules were not set out clearly enough for you so here I go in detail.

Like Angry Paul’s Betting Shop; the options will be presented as shown. I will be using this topic as my example the whole way through! “The Iraq Photos”

The Iraq Torture Photos…

They’re real: (odds)
They’re fake: (odds)
The Photos are real and Piers Morgan is going to get compensation: (odds)
The Photos are fake and Piers Morgan is gonna be sacked (odds)

I’m not very good with odds so I would be grateful if AngryPaul could help on that count.

You would donate your money to me. I would keep it in a log and when the situation played out, the money would be dealt out accordingly. Finally if I do get investors the bank will be £1000, if I do not, the service will have to begin on £250. Therefore if the bank runs out, the game is closed until more funds come through. There will probably be shares at a later date.

Thank you for sparing your time to read this document. InsertNameHere

P.S: If you have any more queries just P.M me

I don't understand you, InsertNameHere. You spam whilst trying to make a decent betting thread, then when you finally have a good idea, you ditch it. And on top of that, you try to sell a thread. Why would anyone give you 300 rupies for a thread? They could just let it die and then create a new one with a few changes.

Fine, the news gambling thing will begin today.

The First Topic: June 10th Iraq Handover

The Handover will happen and there will be no riots.

The Handover will happen and there will be riots.

The Handover will happen, the riots will escelate and America will step in. Odds posted soon

You need to define your conditions much more precisely. What are you defining as a succesful handover? How much disturbance do you want to class it as a riot? How long are you allowing for said 'riots' to occur?

It's a nice idea for a thread but you need to bet on things that have a definite outcome that isn't based on opinion. Eg an election has a defined winner, speculation about a football transfer has a defined outcome (if you specify a time period), and so on. I can't see it working with vague news things like those you mentioned.

A handover= American troops leaving main cosmopolitan areas. Riots= People gathering and protesting. I hope this has cleared it up.

Because you seem to keep all PM's you recieve as memories of times gone by and henceforth havea full inbox all the time:

The Handover will happen and there will be no riots: 3/1

The Handover will happen and there will be riots: 1/5

The Handover will happen, the riots will escelate and America will step in: 11/10

why not delete ALL PM's you have to create space?

You appear to have missed my point.

Even your further definition is still very much in shades of grey. You can only seriously expect people to bet on something that has a definate black and white outcome.

Eg, you have defined riots as "people gathering and protesting". I would call that a protest. A riot would be a violent action by a large group of people.

Looking at a dictionary, a riot is "A violent disturbance of the public peace by three or more persons assembled for a common purpose." while a protest is "An individual or collective gesture or display of disapproval."

As you can see what a dictionary defines as a riot is different to what you have defined it as. This shows how people will have different opinions as to the outcomes of your bets, which could very easily lead to disagreements over who wins.

If you insist on betting on shades of gray the only way I can see to make it remotely feasible would be for a completely independant person to decide whether the vague condition you specify is met. Obviously this would have to someone without any financial or social link to any of the people involved. Which I can see happening really.

I'm not trying to destroy your thread; it is a good idea in principle. I just think you need to choose carefully what events you allow betting on.
