Credit goes to peg who thought of the idea of having a badger racing thread.
(Poof said he liked the sound of this in a PM so I figured I may as well post it - also thanks goes to Dingbat who explained how odds work)
Here is how badger racing works:
In each race there will be 5 badgers, the 5 badgers will be randomly selected from the list of badgers (there will be 15 to start, but more can always be added). Each of the 5 badgers will be assigned a number so people can bet on them.
The maximum bet is 50 rupies and the minimum bet is 15 (this can be changed dependant on funds).
However, if you want to push luck a bit more to your side, you can always purchase one of our sneaky items. When an item is purchased by someone, everyone else who was betting on that badger or bets on that badger must pay 25% of the price of the item as well because it will benefit everyone (and they're lucky getting it cheap).
How are winnings sorted out you may ask. Like so:
If you have bought an item then 50% of the item's value will be added to what you bet (i.e. if you bet 10, bought something for 16 it would come out as 18). Then all the bets would be added up for each badger then each better will have a percentage worked out - this is the percentage of the bets on that badger which was made by them.
When a badger wins, the money is treated as a whole - say it came to 300 for this instance. The badger that won had odds of 1/1 so 300 comes back as 600. Then everyone who betted on that badger gets their percentage from the winnings e.g. if bob had 50%, tom had 25% and peter had 25% then bob would get 300 and tom and peter would each get 150.
The course is split into 4 different sections, Section 1 being at the start and Section 4 being at the end.
Here is the items list:
6 rupies - random bomb (2 points, - 1 point off a random badger)
10 rupies - specific bomb (2 points, - 1 point off a chosen badger)
14 rupies - golden bomb (4 points, - 1 point off badger with most points or 2nd most if you have most)
18 rupies - nitro (6 points)
These are the base prices, you then add the following modifier for each section:
Section 1: - 2 rupies (+ 0 points)
Section 2: + 2 rupies (+ 1 point)
Section 3: + 6 rupies (+ 2 points)
Section 4: + 10 rupies (+ 3 points)
So for example say you wanted to buy a specific bomb to be dropped on badger 4 in section 3 it will cost: 10 + 6 rupies = 16 rupies for you, then everyone else who bets on that badger pays an extra 4 rupies as well. When it comes to the total income you will get 50% of this added to how much you bet, say you bet 10 it will be as if you had betted: 50% of 16 = 8 + 10 = 18.Then the points added to the badgers base points would be: 2 + 2 = + 4 and - 1 for badger 4.
And finally here are the list of badgers:
1. Thunder Titan - 1/1 (base points: 10)
2. Dark Devil - 1/1 (base points: 10)
3. Fatty the wonder badger - 3/1 (base points: 8)
4. Pinkers - 1/1 (base points: 10)
5. Badger2k - 1/3 (base points: 12)
6. Nightmare Revealer - 1/1 (base points: 10)
7. Badger.com - 1/1 (base points: 10)
8. Blossom - 1/1 (base points: 10)
9. Sunshine of the day - 1/2 (base points: 11)
10. Demon - 1/1 (base points: 10)
11. Death by numbers - 1/1 (base points: 10)
12. Bob - 1/1 (base points: 10)
13. Henry - 2/1 (base points: 9)
14. Edward the second - 1/1 (base points: 10)
15. BadgerBadger - 1/1 (base points: 10)
When a badger comes 1st their odds increase, 2nd odds increase by not as much, 3rd don't change, 4th decrease, 5th decrease by more.
It will work like this like this:
1st: 1/1 -> 1/3
2nd: 1/1 -> 1/2
3rd: 1/1 -> 1/1
4th: 1/1 -> 2/1
5th: 1/1 -> 3/1
i.e. 1st - up by 2, 2nd - up by 1, 3rd - no change, 4th - down by 1, 5th - down by 2.
And we could have it so odds can't drop below 5/1 and get go above 1/5 (though I haven't tested this bit yet).
So for an example the next race will involve the following randomly selected badgers:
1: Henry - 1/1 (base points: 10)
2: Sunshine of the day - 1/1 (base points: 10)
3: BadgerBadger - 1/1 (base points: 10)
4: Badger2k - 1/1 (base points: 10)
5: Fatty the wonder badger - 1/1 (base points: 10)
Then people would proceed to bet.
'What about these points?' I hear you ask. It works like so:
After betting the total extra points for each badger (and total points removed if someone's used a sneaky bomb) will be added to the badger's base points (which will change depending on the odds for that badger - a badger with odds 1/2 would have 11 base points, a badger with 1/3 would have 12, a badge with 2/1 would have 9, etc.)
Then the total points would be added up so we have a grand total of points, lets say it turned out like this:
Badger 1: 10 points
Badger 2: 8 points
Badger 3: 16 points
Badger 4: 15 points
Badger 5: 20 points
Total: 69 points
The badgers would then get assigned number(s) by their points, so in this case:
Badger 1: 0 - 9
Badger 2: 10 - 17
Badger 3: 18 - 33
Badger 4: 33 - 48
Badger 5: 49 - 68
Then, using the trusty random number button on my calculator I'll generate the winner:
winner = rand. # * 68
(random number generates a random number between 0 and 1 - all decimals will be rounded)
Then this can be repeated until we have all the positions.
Random number can also be used to decided which badgers out of the list of 15 take part and which badger a random bomb gets dropped on.
I will put half of my rupies aside especially for this, but will use my personal stash if need be.
So without further ado let's begin betting!
1: Henry - 1/1 (base points: 10)
2: Sunshine of the day - 1/1 (base points: 10)
3: BadgerBadger - 1/1 (base points: 10)
4: Badger2k - 1/1 (base points: 10)
5: Fatty the wonder badger - 1/1 (base points: 10)
