For some reason I can't like these things. Besides being poisonous and disgusting-looking, some of them also eat birds.
Why don't you all share your views about these long-leggedy beasties here?

at times they are a menace to society, at other times they are life savers
did you know that we are meant to swallow up to 8 spiders in our life time, whilst asleep...

Yup...mostly of the Dust Mite type.

I heard it's 16, but never mind that.
Do you know, that killing a spider brings rain? I can kill flies, mosquitos, all kinds of vermin. But you'll never find me squishing a spider (unless it's raining already ;])

they may be a meanace to some people, but without spiders, the world would be overrun with flys in 6 months, as in knee deep.

I like spiders!!!
They get rid of other nasty flying things for me... untill the moment my cat eats them, then they're mostly dead.

I don't mind spiders. I have no idea of that "You swallow three spiders a year in your sleep" comes from. I mean did they stick a group of people in scientifically controled conditions to chack for accidental spider ingestion!? How wold anyone even start to come up with a figure for number of spiders swallowed in a lifetime?
But yeah I don't mind spiders. My mum and sister are terrified of them, my girlfriend thinks they are "gross", I have no problem I tell you what's realy minging to look at, Camel Spiders. They're not spiders but they are arachnids. They have no venom. They are sometimes called Sun Scorpions but again, they have no venomous stings. Here is a video of one

They're as long as your hand!

what's worse is that you actually swallow over 100 insects EACH YEAR..or so it's said...not like I actually counted it...but it kinda figures though..stupid things are always flying into my face when I'm riding my bycycle..

I once ate a live locust. It was bitty. Apparently they're nice dipped in honey and fried in groundnut oil. It breaks down the carapace.

Spiders aren't bad. But there is a guy who is growing a very large spider which will eventually beat the world record and grow to 14 inches in diameter (2 inches bigger than you average dinner plate) can't remember who but i saw it on tv at some point. Can you imagine that bugger attaching itself to your face?

like most of nature, they serve their purpose. they eat flies, which spread disease. hence i like them on principle. they're not too aesthetic, though. if i see one, i ignore it.
their webs are a pain in the arse, however.

i tend to ignore them.......
i hate it when people kill them just because they dont like them and scream about it though.

I really don't see the point of screaming at spiders..not like they'll go "ow someone's screaming at me, let's run away"..not like spiders will actually think anything besides "hey dude, there's a fly in my web, dinner time!"
so much for my comments on the thoughts of spiders

Liddle bastards like to poison you with their bite and scare you by going in your face. I saw a guy who had been bitten by a Black Widow. He almost died. Tarantulas are just plain disgusting.
I remember seeing on the Discovery Channel about a woman who had Arachnophobia Major(she got paralyzed with fear at the sight of a little ghoulie)and she went to a psychologist. The psychologist went in steps to relieve her fear, first by talking to here about creepy-crawlies, then by rubber spiders, then by a virtual simulation, then, after much training, going to a pet store and letting on of the tarantulas crawl on her arm. GROSS! My flesh is shivering thinking about that.
I just squish 'em. After summing up courage, of course. I'd rather face a dragon than a spider. Although if the liddle bastards were taller than humans(EightLeggedFreaks the movie)I wouldn't mind so much.
"Get back, you EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS!" *shotgun blast*

spiders are a part of nature
nature is good equals we live.
nature is bad equals we die.
spiders help keep the level of flies down and some of them actually help kill those pesky birds(not that i dont like birds)
so i might actually like spiders
but i dont want a dinner-plate sized spider on my face
thank you
:)
