A few weeks ago my dad said he wanted a printer to fit his Psion handheld. The cable I'd bought years ago was parallel, so, I needed a parallel printer. They don't sell those in shops, and I don't like buying printers off ebay, so I went to cash converters (half-decent second hand shop that rips you off unless youre careful)

They had the exact printer I needed, a HP Deskject 840c (it has both parallel and USB interfaces so I can plug my lappy in it too). Best part - it had the wrong price tag on it! the people in Cash Converters aren't so bright where I come from, so I got the printer for £4.99! Result! It didn't have a power cable (18v) but not to fear! I had a spare 18v power supply from an old 486 Toshiba laptop that fitted it perfectly. And the cherry on the cake was, the printer had two full tanks of ink!

Another bargain area for me was the discovery that my local pound shop sells USB, parallel, scart, monitor and audio cables, DVD and CD cases (packs of 10, ie, 10p each) , DVD/CD lens cleaners, mice, mouse mats....it's great!

So what are your Techy Bargains and/or Blags? I have tons, so you lot must have some too! :D

when i worked at safeways they advertised a laptop at a whole £100 less than the price it was meant to be

and the law says they have to sell it at the advertised price.. didn't get one though :(

I got a whole PC (old one that can be seen in this thread (http://www.weebls-stuff.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12874&perpage=15&highlight=retro%20computer&pagenumber=2)) for free from the primary school I work at, which I then managed to sell to a mate for £30. I've also managed to blag free hard drives, a brand new floppy disk drive, a network card and some cable from the college technicians :)

Yay for free stuff, and people kind enough to give it to you :D

Nice buy Gin&Tonic. There is a cash converters near me, but never found much cheap stuff in there :(
