...Joke.

It only destroyed my computer.

Does anyone know what this means:

Explorer has caused an error in
~7476796972.TPM.
Explorer will now close.

If you continue to experiance problems,
try restarting your computer.

I did, like 1000 times and still nothing. I now have to hide that in a corner so i dont accidently click on it and shut down explorer.

This sucks.

I think I need a proper computer tech guy to solve this, my school network hacking skills wont work this time...

try emptying your temp files

right click on your C: drive, properties, diskcleanup, and make sure that you select tempory files, and temp internet files

also, you may want to be in safe mode for this

Try finding the file, if you cant dont worry. (this is if it's a virus) press CNTL ALT DELT and go to task manager, then go prosesses, look through there, if you see anything dodgey then stop it from runnig, then if you seach for that file, then try and delete it.

This may not work but it's worked for me a couple of times.

Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work AT ALL. I can't even reboot the computer by pressing it twice!

Try wyrd_fish's solution -if that doesn't work, you may want to de- and then reinstall internet explorer.
If you don't want to do that or if it doesn't work, ask the people on the forum of Mircrosofts knowledge base (http://support.microsoft.com).

And last but not least; forget IE and try Mozilla (http://www.mozilla.org)!;)

its not internet explorer, its explorer.exe that is causing the problem. just delete the temp file like wyrd_fish said

you see, when explorer, basically the main part of windows, crashes it automatically restarts it self

and you lose stuff like open windows

some stay though, it can be really perculiar

you lose IE as it is nearly/sort of part of explorer

Instead of reformatting you could always reinstall windows in a new directory (if it's in C:\windows now, install it to C:\win for example). Then open C:\win, find explorer.exe, copy it and replace the explorer.exe from the origional C:\windows with this new one.

Then, when you run your origional windows thing, it should work perfectly! Saves having to reinstall all your programs, saving your documents to disc, etc :)

Of course, this would only work if the problem is with explorer.exe.

Finally, someone picks up on this method. However, it's a waste of time just to copy one file over.

A better idea is to hunt through the CAB files on the installation and just restore explorer.exe.

I still advise a clean install.

Before you reformat, download every update microsoft offers for your OS and slap them onto a CD. (ie, for XP you'll want to get SP1 onto cd and ready) as well as having a virus scanner and the most recent definitions, and a decent firewall. (I recommend ZoneAlarm, there's a free version available if you don't want to fork out for the pro version).

When you reformat and reinstall, ensure that your computer is completely isolated from the Internet. No network or phone cables connected whatsoever. (If you're on dialup this is less of a risk, but it's good practice anyway).

As soon as the install is complete, patch up windows, install and update your antivirus, and set up the firewall. Then, go online, and get any updates you may have missed.
