Hi everyone
I don't know if this has been done before but what is the worst cover you ever heard? I think all Westlife's covers are terrible.

Unlike problem child I can remember the band but not the song.
Remember steps?[shudder]
Well they did a terrible cover of a song, and then a few years later towards the end of their carreer, They covered the cover! And no it wasn't just a re-release it was actually a cover of a cover!

A few years ago there was this manufactured bubblegum pop 'singer' call lolly. I remember that she did an AWFUL cover of 'Schools out' by Alice Cooper. I mean, Alice is one of the greatest metal artists ever, and he didnt deserve a terrible cover like that. Having said that, alot of covers are quite good like Marilyn Mansons 'Tainted love'.

Avril lavigne - Chop Suey
*shudders* was absolutely horrid.

All Saints Under The Bridge was just dire. They even changed the lyrics, the heathens! How dare they try and cover a chilis song.
Apart from that; there was a christmas album where all the stars did a christmas song. Britney's was atrocious.
The Pop Idol cover CD was crap. Covers rarely work.
(Manson's Tainted Love was great though and I dont particularly like him :D)

I don't remember who did it but at one point I heard a really crappy punk cover of Duran Duran's "Ordinary World". I'm not normally a fan of punk, but this was especially awful. They completely sapped the song of its sincerity and meaning.
Damn you punkers, whoever you are!!!

That song was awful for so many reasons.
Also, "schools out" was by Daphne and Celeste, not Lolly - she did Mickey (equally bad).
I know people will call me unoriginal, but I really thought Busted's cover of Teenage kicks was awful - as they pretty much ignored the solo and Skunk Ananse had done a far superior version a few years before.
I haven't heard it, but aparently the Manic Street Preachers tried to cover Pennyroyal Tea (nirvana) and got booed off stage.

The terrible Amy Studt cover of "All I wnna do is have some fun"
How can you screw up a song like that I ask you?

There's a live cover of Weezer's "Say it Ain't So" by the Deftones, where they play it like heavy metal. It's pretty funny, but it's a serious injustice to the song. (I love Weezer, they're one of my guiltiest pleasures. They're also wildly misperceived and underrated)
If I can venture offtopic, I think the soft cell version of "tainted love" was one of the best covers of all time. There was also a song which was covered so well by Hendrix (I can't remember which song or who it was by...) that the original artist now plays it in the style of the cover version.
All Saints- if there was a God, they wouldn't all still be alive, after what they did to Under the Bridge.

Goldfinger tore apart The Cure's "Just Like Heaven", that was pretty nasty.
edit: Oh, and Marilyn Manson's Tainted Love. Someone keep him out of the studio!

[Comic-book guy]Worst cover version ever[/Comic-book guy]
Hilarious cover versions of Indie and Rock are best left to the wonderful Richard Cheese who has done several albums, re-works are best left to Weird Al

Jessica Simpson's cover of "Take my breath away". It was such a beautiful love song, and then she got hold of it and turned it into absolute crap.

I didn't like the original version that much to begin with, but the Duff sisters really crap-ified (that's my new word) the GoGo's "Our Lips are Sealed."

i like the joss stone song. i'm a huge cure fan and i don't remember not liking that cover. oh well to each his own.
the 3 biggest travesties in my eyes are le anne rimescover of prince's purple rain. i worked in a record store, and we played it and actually had customers begging us to stop the torture.
i also just want to cry when i hear sheryl crow cover led zeps d'yer ma'ker. it takes great personal restraint not to jam broken sporks in my ears when i hear this song.

All along the Watchtower, originally by Bob Dylan im guessing, im not sure of any of his other covers, or if there are any others, but his was very good.
Worst cover? Probably the cover of fell in love with a girl.

Alex Parks did covers of Imagine by John Lennon and Yellow by Coldplay.
I can honestly say that these make me cringe, she just seems to have taken the songs and ripped them apart... then stuck them back together upside down and back to front. It's also bad because I love the originals.. they seem perfect as they are :nana:

Atomic Kitten - Ladies Night.
I love the version by Kool and the gang, it's a real party anthem, and now they've just ruined it

Didn't Anthony Kiedis say himself that the All Saints' version was better than the Chilis original?
Worst cover... Hmm... Any punk covers I guess.

the live at budukan veresion of it is probably the best one I've heard.
but i actualy quite like the avril cover, I think her young voice contrasts quite well with his tired bitter croakiness.

Gene Simmons (ex kiss frontman) has just released a cover of Firestarter.
If it was an orignal, it would probably be bearable, but it can't with the Prodigy. He just doesn't have the voice for it.
Still, theres some nice ladies in the video...

I disagree, the original will always be there and well.. original, however her cover was for charity and overall not a bad attempt. I found it quite sweet or something of the such.

Good lord. I have just listened to that cover and all I can say is why god why.
She is either taken the piss out of System of a Down or she is the most tone deaf person to walk this planet.
So Avril Lavigne's cover of chop suey by System of a Down is the worst cover I have ever heard.

That's already been mentioned several times, but yes, it is poor to say the least. For a start the rhymes are wrong 'cos she changed it from girl to boy.
