'lo all.
I have recently used PC pitstop (www.pcpitstop.com) (http://www.pcpitstop.com) (havnt for a while 'cos I forgot about it) and they say my pc has a low Processor and Ram speed compared to "similar pcs".
I have 768 mb ram and an AMD Athlon or Duron Model 6, 1666MHz processor.
Should I be worried by this (see attached piccy), as my pc seems a bit on the slow side and has a continous memory rate of around 50% when Idling (no I dont have any spyware etc). It also "lags" when on 3d-ish games when faced with high poly models.

A 1.6 Duron is an alright processor and can probably last you for a few more months.
768meg RAM is nothing to scoff it, but I'm assuming it's oldschool PC133 SDRAM which might explain a lot.
What is your video card? If it's not powerful enough, you'll lag with high res models.

I have 512 megs of SD ram, and apparently it runs at 50% of normal speed. I have no idea why, or what I can do about it. At any rate, you're not alone.
Edit: I never have any problems with running speed- except internet connections, but then that's just because I dl too much crap.

Best advice is to upgrade your video card drivers or card, drop the resolution in the games and follow the advice the website gives.

Doesent help the low processor speed : the website compares it to similar processors and as you can see it is crap. they had a more detailed pic but I cant find it.

i have a 1600mhz duron, i'll give it a try, and inform you of my findings
EDIT: aww... you need to sign up :( cba

Lol
you only need to sign up to save the results - you can do the tsts anonomously

ah ha!
to the hat mobile!
EDIT: ran it, no problem for me, try upping your FSB and dropping your mulitiplyer so you still get the same clock speeed

Ummmm
FSB? multiplyer?
sorry im not that computer literate.
edit: have found that FSB means front bus speed, Ive got no idea how to change it though...

teh front side bus being slow will effect everything from RAM to CPU to everything else
upping the FSB is one of the best ways to improve performance
if you not confident though, it's prolly best left alone
the default for the 1600mhz duron is 133, i made mine 200, which is prolly why mine didn't show up as slow

I'm stupid enough to try raising it slightly - how do I go about changing it?

in your bios under somthing like advanced chipset settings
there should be either:
FSB and Multiplyer settings
-or-
External Frequency and Multiyplyer settings
the clock speed of your chip is controled by these settings, too high and you'll melt stuff though
so i surjest you get over to pie r squared's overclocking thread, he'll polly want motherboard, cpu and cooling information from you, as he's more experienced than me
