FTP timeout

I was downloading off an FTP server today... near the end of my 4 hour download I got a server timeout :( is there any way of preventing this from happening?

A server timeout error is usually something with the server end of things. Unless you own the server and have access to it, then I doubt there is much you can do apart from wait for it to come online again.

would a download manager enable me to resume a donwload after a server time out because after the timeout can start the download again straight away. If it's possible can u reccomend a download manager?

Most FTP clients have resume features. One is Filezilla (http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla).

Also, try setting yourself into Passive mode rather than active...
