Whilst everyone is raving about g-mail just now, I wondering how may people have been checking their hotmail accounts?
If you've still been faithfully checking, had any good emails from them recently?
If you've not, then I'll tell you why I post.
I recieved an email yesterday saying that as of i think mid-july, all free hotmail accounts (2mb) are to be upgraded to 250mb and the paid accounts (10mb) are getting something 3gigs of space.
Ok, so the free on isn't as much as g-mail, but is it worth sticking with hotmail?
I'm going to for now to what they do.
What do y'all think ;)

As you may know, Yahoo! also recently upgraded all free addresses to 100mb. That pretty much convinced me to stick with Yahoo! for my main email address, but I have a Gmail account nonetheless, as my secondary email. I am now using Gmail for these forums, since they block Yahoo! for some reason.

no.
gmail has features that hotmail cannot compete with, that is now one of the reasons i am going to be dumping my hotmail account.
also hotmail accounts need to be checked every 2 weeks before they close down, gmail lasts 9 months

I say no, but that's because I really don't like Hotmail anymore. I had my Hotmail account for years, but over time they just stuck more and more adverts in it (not spam. I mean on the actual site) and I don't like the newish layout either. Yahoo is much better IMO, so I think I'll stick with them. Well, I will do until I see how good Gmail is when they have it fully working with pop3 support and stuff.

i've not really had any issues with hotmail. yeah i get spam, but be honest. they will find ways around googles spam protection soon enough.
i've been using my hotmail for about 10 years. i just can't totally drop my email now. until gmail makes some more improvements, i'm not totally switching.

Well, I'm sticking with my hotmail account for now--I've heard that Gmail accounts were too tough and painful to be able to get. I could be wrong, though, but I just find that sticking with my hotmail account is easier. :)

I'm still trying to get a gmail account, but nobody seems to have any invites (or don't want to give me one :( )

g-mail is a con. They have an auto-scan then saves all messages with words such as pirate, copy, cam etc.

1. scribbly, there is a thread asking about gmail invites in techy
2.nobody. nice scaremongering. and your proof is? and what makes you think hotmail, yahoo, email.com don't scan your emails also? do you work for msn maybe?
yes i have some reservations about gmail, but honestly i don't see how they are any worse about anyother webmail service. check out my review here (http://www.weebls-stuff.com/forums//showthread.php?s=&threadid=16395) still waiting for others who have the service to post their opinions. right now i am getting to like it a bit more. and really, you are quite stupid if you use any of the free webmail programs for any sensative information. no emial is secure, but i use my work or website email for the really important stuff.

I'm 18 and only just finished school, I don't work for msn. In fact I don't even use msn, except for spam to be sent to, signing up to forums games etc. My 'source' is more than reliable, but I do not wish to say how I got the information.
My intention wasnt scaremongering.....EDITED next line sounded like a provoke for an arguement.

Gmail
When we may disclose your personal information.
As a standard email protocol, when you send an email from your Gmail account, Gmail includes your email address and user name in the header of the email. Beyond this, we do not disclose your personally identifying information to third parties unless we believe we are required to do so by law or have a good faith belief that such access, preservation or disclosure is reasonably necessary to (a) satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or governmental request,
MSN
MSN may access and/or disclose your personal information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on Microsoft or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of Microsoft, including its MSN family of Web sites; or (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of MSN services or members of the public.
they are both doing it, if you are talking about illegal acts and they will check.
i really doubt they'll be watching you talk about pirating stuff or are going to go to that much effort to check.

nobody, the msn jibe was a bit of sarcasm. i did not mean to insult, was trying it lighten up my post. i'm a bit of a sarcastic bitch.
i think parrot summed up my point best.
can you explain your source a bit more? just saying you have a source and that they say gmail is bad is not really good proof for your point.

...the hell?
I finally got a gmail account, but it isn't compatible with MSN messenger? In that case (especially if we get 250mb next month), screw gmail...

Have you tried getting a .NET passport with your Gmail account?
[edit] it works...

Nobody, your source is just plain wrong. Perhaps you are confusing it with the fact that Gmail has computers that scan emails in order to place relevant ads on the sides. These scans are 100% computerized, so your emails are never read by anyone at Google (unless there is a legal obligation, blah blah blah). They don't "save" your emails, unless of course you are talking about storing them on the server, which is the whole point anyway. Bottom line: nobody reads your emails, there is no abuse of privacy, and Gmail is not a scam.

I didn't know they had a partnership...
Hmm...I already have Hotmail and G-Mail accounts, so I'll stick with them both.

They don't have a partnership but if you sign up for .net for a passport instead of hotmail you can use any email address (except yahoo ones I think)
I'm using both, I tend to use my hotmail for website forms (signing up for forums etc) and my Gmail for company enquiries (unrelated to my business) or close friends.
