Well I just go myself a brand spanking new Hard Drive and today, so I guess I will start off with
Western Digital Caviar SE 160GB UIDE 100 7200rpm 8mb Cache - OEM
This was basically to serve as my main drive in my compy to replace an aging 40 GB one.
Here is the blurb from the website I got it from
Western Digital's Special Edition hard drives are designed to maximize desktop computer performance for activities requiring high-performance storage such as computer gaming, digital video editing, and file server applications. Offering the largest capacities, the Western Digital's Special Edition family is equipped with an 8 MB buffer - the largest buffer available today in a desktop EIDE hard drive, delivering data to users faster than any hard drive in its class.
The Special Edition hard drive provides a higher percentage of cache hits and significantly faster time to data than industry-standard 2 MB versions. Within the complex operations of hard drives, the buffer is used to hold the results of recent reads from the disk, and also to &~148;pre-fetch&~148; information that is likely to be requested in the near future. The use of an increased buffer improves the performance by reducing the number of physical accesses to the disk and allowing data to stream from the disk uninterrupted by mechanical operations.
To be honest I have never really had a hard time installing anything into my computer, but this one takes the buscuit but to no fault of its own (I had to remove my cpu heatsink to get it in, but it is rather large), but anyway once it was in, everything went fine.
I would recomend going here (http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp) to get the western digital data lifeguard program, which will format and copy all files from another disk in windows which is very usefull.
This drive has so far been a lot faster to my old 2mb Cache drive (Cuts down large encoding jobs by about 1/2 the time), it runs a little hotter than my old drive, but it is pratically silent, which is a big plus.
If you are in need of a fast ATA 100 drive this is a pretty good option for around £60
Edit: What you get in the box - Well there was no box just a bag with the brand spanking new hard drive, thats it, welcome to the generous world of buying hard drives you get nothing at all extra, well I suppose you can count the foam packing as extras if you have nothing better to do
