View Full Version : Universal Virtual Currency
Just a thought. I'm not sure how this would work logistically but it might be worth considering an entire virtual currency.
There are several threads tetering on the edge of being reborn in a new form each offering some kind of credit. It might be worth the creators of these threads getting together and seeing if they could think of a way to make the currency transferable. Ie you could win a few quid in the betting shop then go put it on the roulette wheel, and take your winnings and let them ride on higher of lower.
Like I said, this could be very tricky because thread owners would have to be able to coordinate credit with each other.
Even if a way couldn't be found to do it directly it might be worth looking into an 'bureau de change" thread, where different 'currencies' for the different games could be interchanged. If you wanted to make it complicated you could even have variable exchange rates based upon the different games successes, which would make the currency market something of a game itself.
As I've said, it could be very complicated. But if people want to make it work I think it could happen. And it would be a lot simpler to get it started from the beginning rather than trying to impliment it at a later date.
What are peoples thoughts on this? I wasn't sure if this really deserved a thread of it's own, but didn't want to potentially derail a fledgling betting idea!

it would be very good, but as you said, complicated. i would be willing to give it a go, it would just be very time consuming though

Let's see... we'll call the currency pui.(pronounced pie)
1 pui=pui
2=zwipui
5=penti
10=decap
20=zwidecap
25=vierpuitel
50=halbpui
100=cepui
and I can't be asked to do anymore. Notice the mix of Latin and German:D.

well currently the threads are using Chips and we might as well just say 100 chips instead cechips

or we could let the individual threads have their own currency -- i say that because different games could have different uses for their munnehs, and also because universal chips would mean a full-time record keeper of who has how many...

i think the universal curency idea would be good, if you could work it, but how many do people start with? what happens if people run out, how do they make them back? :confused:

Indeed, but then you couldn't take your winnings and bet them someplace else like Fick was suggesting ;)
Most likely the only way to make a currency that could be used on these boards, and keep track of it, would be to host a database on a website outside weebl and bob and give people money [chips] to start out with. However this would need to involve some way that people can give chips to one another (like donating money to Shane or Fick for a bet).
My PHP/MySQL knowledge doesn't go that far to set up a system. Perhaps someone on here knows how to?
I had an idea.
A sister forum that has rupies for sports and bets.
The it would be a lot simpler.
Tusk has a store hack for invsion, so ill ask himt to help us out, what do you think??
Tusk has said he could set it up so what do you think.

Creating a new forum? All you have to do is say everyone starts off with 100 chips or something. You bet chips and win or lose more :/

Well me and Shane have been discussing the use of a 'Chips' system in the betting shop and keeping track of accounts as players bet there 'chips' in the betting shop.
However, we could extend the use of the 'Chips' system to all betting threads and we would need to start a Banking Thread to keep track of everybodies accounts.
What would people say to that?

i've used chips in the roulette thread and i know other people have been using them in their threads, but as Fick said it would be very hard to keep detailed records of everyone's spending, but as i said, i'm up for giving it a go
[EDIT] \/ think it's a good idea

Well I would make a Banking Thread. Thread owners would need to report users spending back to me and I could edit there amounts in the 'Bank Database' (first post)
If people think it is a good idea then I will set up the thread.

I think it sounds like a grand idea.
I'm also interested in the idea of different currencies and exchanging between them - a burea de change as Fick said.
It could be that any money you put in the bank has to be in chips, but threads could actually use whatever they want.
Value could rise and fall with thread popularity, which I think would work very well as spammy betting threads like we've seen in the past could actually have very little value.

i've just been having a few more thoughts on this matter. if we were to have different currencies with exhcange rates then the banking thread would have to have it's own currency. for whatever currency the bank would be changing from/into the banks exhange rate would need to remain at one. this way it would make conversion easier, eg. the betting shop may be 3 "bs chips": 1 banking chip, and the roulette thread might be 2.5 r chips: 1 banking chip. therefore if you wanted to change from Bs chips to R chips then you would simply divide the Bs chips by 3 to get to banking chips, then times that by 2.5 to get roulette chips.
i haven't worked out what exchange rates to set each thread at, or how the exchange rates are going to change. i guess the rates would just have to be universally accepted and would change, as has been said, due to popularity, which i guess would mean no. of people playing?
if anyone has any more thoughts on the matter, or has a better idea, please say so
