Over the course of a few days being bored in my Windows Server 2003 class, I brought Fireworks along on a CD to amuse myself. So I made a little Office Space (movie)/ Madness Combat themed wall paper to sort of set my computer apart from the others. It seems I am on a wallpaper making spree between getting the GUI done for Doom 3: Jam Warz. It is a 1280 (I actually have a class with decent computers) size instead of 1024x768 so you it will be scaled down a little for you:

I am typing this from college due to two things:

1.) My DSL is once again down. Damn you Alltel.

2.)I ordered the parts for my new computer and built it over the weekend. Along in the parts was a 80GB Serial ATA Hard drive. I planned on transferring my files from my 19.1 GB IDE hard drive over to the Serial one. But the serial one came dead on arrivial. And if you have ever tried to move a HD with Windows XP from one computer to another, you know it doesn't work. So I had an old HD that I couldn't back up and wouldn't run on my new computer due to damn microsoft. So henceforth I formatted it and lost everything once again.

It is as if I shoot myself in the foot every time I start working on Part 20, plus my Krinkles animation was lost too. Soooo. Right now while I don't have internet I have been thinking about finishing Part 20 or not. I have been playing Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil, and have some great ideas that I want to implement. But starting from scratch for a 3rd time is just horrid. I really don't know what to do.... I will leave it up to you guys. I make this stuff for you, so its up to you. And oh yeah, here are my computer specs:

Pentium 4 Prescott 3.0 GHz , 2mb L2 Cache, 64 Bit Processor (just came out - LG775)
1GB (512x 2) Dual Channel DDR PC3200
MSI LG775 Board
80GB Seagate Serial ATA HD
Raidmax Black/Yellow Cobra Case w/ 420watt Power Supply
GeForce FX5600 256mb

Arkwright

Microsoft problems? Talk to the sig, cos the face ain't listening.

Maybe 20 is an unlucky number for you and this cartoon just doesn't want to get made.
Maybe you could leave Jam Warz and work on some new material and take a fresh start with a different story-line, a story-line which hasn't been cursed by Murphy's law.

Sand-Man

http://www.raidmax.com/images/WB822WBP.jpg

That is the case I ended up getting. It was at a better price :).

As far as part 20 is concerned, I have always wanted to make a final Jam Warz Project (Doom 3 Related) to wrap it all up. I really don't think it was possible to make it on my first attempt, because it would have looked like crap to be honest. I have progressed since then, and it would be nice to have it go out with a bang. It is just a very time consuming thing. I am going to put off the decision till later in the week when my internet is running and things settle down. This is so I am not trying to make a decision while I am stressed out etc etc. But since this event, I can say that Doom 3 : Jam Warz (if made) will be the last Jam Warz one for a long time, if not indefinetly. It will be nice to make some new stuff not constricted to the Jam Warz story line like mentioned above.

So as I am able to get online I will post updates on my situation etc.

I have been talking to Fox about voice acting. I am torn because I think voices would add a lot, but on the other hand it takes away from the ambience sounds I will be using. And I really don't remember a lot of talking in Doom 3. We will just have to wait and see. But sound wise it will include music, ambient sound, and sfx. It just getting the time and help to go back and re-animate what had been done, and finish what wasn't done.

Thanks for the support guys/gals. I know its a bit redundant with Part 20 getting cancelled, then started, then cancelled, then re-started etc etc. But I feel this is the time to make it. My artistic skills back around Part 19 would not have been sufficient in making it what I want to. And also with my improved skills allows me to do more of the stuff I want to fit in. Mostly horror/freaky stuff considering this toon will be very dark compared to the rest. Hopefully showing those doors that took me 5 hours (not even finished yet) can be a good attestement/preview of what quality to expect on all aspects of the animation.

I had made an old Doom 3 logo that I used quite often, but it just doesn't look right to me. So from scratch I made a new one, taking me about 4 hours for complete creation. It also contains the official title of Part 20:

Its 1am, I have just worked 4pm-11:30pm. Came home picked up the bank card and went out and deposited my check, and grabbed a strawberry milkshake from Mc Donalds on the way home. And I was thinking that I might end up getting this flash hosted on newgrounds by submitting it there. It would be too large for image shack, making hosting an issue. Newgrounds would solve this, and also open it up to another audience. Just some thoughts.

if you're looking for large file hosting, try www.rapidshare.de
Or put it into an html document, then people can view it without needing a standalone flash player, like Swiff (http://www.globfx.com/products/swfplayer/)

Sand-Man
23-09-2005, 03:14 AM
I tried with part 19 (wonder if anyone still has it) to host it on some free website space. And just gave everyone the link the the webpage, but for bandwith reasons or something, it got taken down all the time. So I gave up on that, maybe I will re-consider. So far newgrounds is sounding the best. My goal with this animation is to make it something like you have never seen on the WB forums. And the pure fact I took a day to make doors, and 5 hours to make a logo should say what kind of quality I am going for. This along with the fact that I have a huge resource for music, sfx, etc this time.

Question...

Why not just use vectors?

That way you can change colors if needed, and you can just feather them so they look smudged.

Just wondering..

FIREWORKS FTW!

\O/

Sand-Man
28-09-2005, 03:29 AM
You can't really get the same effect that I am going for in the finished product. Plus the good ol way of using low transparency black and light colors in layers allows for an easier transformation in my opinion. I have to make it look like a light swings over this thing in the animation, using vectors wouldn't be the way to go in my opinion. But I really think it is just a matter of personal preference.

Fade Away
28-09-2005, 03:40 AM
Hmm I guess so. Not saying I could make anything of this calibur :\

But, if you DID use vectors, you could just flatten then, then you would just have the same thing as what you are doing ;)

The general shading on the Hell Knight has been completed in a fairly soft lighting to give a base to start from. Additional lighting effects etc will but put on top of it at a later point (plus touch ups like killing over spray, adding blood etc). I was lucky enough to find the Skeleton posted up in this thread earlier, and I saved it to disk. It would have been a huge pain in the ass if I had to re-draw the Hell Knight allllll over again (well I sorta did, but not the skeleton :p).

I'm right in thinking this will have lots of lasers in it?

Sand-Man
01-10-2005, 10:56 AM
Weapon wise? Not really, the Primary weapons used in the animation will be the:

Double Barrel Shotgun and/or Shotgun
Chainsaw
BFG (Big Fucking Gun) (plasma energy based)

There really werent any laser type weapons, or lasers period in the game.

I think the red is a bit strong and stands out too much from the rest of the monster, maybe downgrade it to a darker red perhaps?

BFG's good enough:D

You could make it glowing red eyes, instead of making it darker.

I actually didn't think about that, that would really add to the scare factor I think :D. My manager asked me if I could come in today, so I said yes. So after my short 3 hour shift I will get cracking on some more work for P20.

I played some Resurrection of Evil tonight to finally play the final 4 levels. My perception of no horror in the expansion quickly changed as I was fighting for my life. This does a good bit to get ideas going in my head, so after playing a good bit I started working on this:

:D

I guess double/triple post are inevitable because this thread has never really had the traffic it used to. Oh well :p. You could also say the more I post the less I am working on the animation/graphics. There is a lot of mind numbing work ahead making that Mars image rotate slowly and smoothly, and make the rest of the designs for the menus. Then I will either start on character re-design/animation or backdrops. Working 7-9 hour days this week doesn't help either. Thanks for the support thus far :).

I will say sorry to those that did enjoy a more light and humorus Jam Warz early on. But the goal of "Damnation" (Part 20) is a very horror stricken look at the final hunt for Zola. I don't know how you can really convey horror in a flash cartoon, but I will do my best to at least make it as disturbing as the game it is spoofing. Maybe you can in the end call it a tribute to Doom; a tribute to Sparks, Fox, Zekey, Cap N Zola, gxfu, Edderif and the others that have stuck with me since the begining (and the newcomers alike); and of course a tribute to Weebl and Bob the cartoon.

It seems the syncros in my transmission are going out or are allready gone (in my SUV that is). So I have been distracted from working on Part 20, but hopefully this weekend between trying to take my vehicle in I will get some work done. Money will play in a factor as I don't have the $1,000-$2,000 USD to get it fixed if its a full transmission rebuild (500-1,000 Pounds).

Double Post!!!! Wootage... Anyway, you may remember the BFG10k I made a while back. Well at that point for me it was quite impressive, but I did go the cheap way and use fill gradients to make it look shaded. So I salvaged the BFG from the thread saving it to my HD and I spent almost 3 hours properly shading it and adding detail. Here is the final product:

All of these little bits and peices I am putting up such as the ancient doors, hellknight, rotating mars, and now the BFG10K are all going into what you could call my "Huge Masterpeice" that is Jam Warz Part 20 aka "Damnation" animation. As I go along I am consutling outside sources such as Fox,Zekey, and Blue Hippo for feed back (ex Zekey got first comment on the BFG via MSN) and help when needed. I cannot give a release date on Part 20, but I can say it will be within the general area of the Doom movie release. I hope Jonti does love Doom, might mean he will end up checking out Damnation when its done and post his thoughts.

And in reply to ideas on why traffic has slowed wayyy down... I have to agree some what about the Weebl and Bob art thing. But all my stuff lately are bits and peices of what is going into the final episode of Jam Warz (animation), which is what this thread has been based on really all along.

I really can't say how good my stuff is compared to the people that have threads in the fan art area(and I don't like to brag anywway), but compared to where I started off it looks amazing to me. I guess some of it is that it is not persay "artsy" stuff that is deep and intelectual, it is more horror/gore based.

Threads in the "Besterest" area generally have less traffic anyway, but thats the price you pay :D. If it was still in the Fan Art area I think it would probably have gotten lost in all the other new threads anyway. So as long as Im happy with, and the people that count are happy; that is all that matters :).

The fact that Part 20 has been in the making for 6 months doesn't help either.
Going to college and working full time sorta got me side tracked from working on it. But with the Doom 3 Expansion allready out and the Doom 3 Movie coming out this is the perfect time to finally get it complete.

Sand-Man
10-10-2005, 06:44 AM
Well I have brought that upon myself. I raised the standard for my work where a bunch of little images telling a story no longer counts. I have to make an animation for it to count as an episode of Jam Warz. Like that Texas Chainsaw Massacre bit I did recently would have been considered an actual peice at one point. But I see it all as a good thing, I want to make an animation like nothing ever seen on here. It has its consequences sure, but in the end it will be worth it. I do admit to posting up bits and peices to keep people's interest and show I am working on it. If I went silent and all of the sudden posted it, I don't think it would be the same.

It is good that you show us little parts of the movie so as to show us that you are making fan art. Good good. But, you said it yourself, there are concequences of making something amazing. You lose the "all the time" attention. But that's just how it's going to be.

I know if all the hype about this is true then it's going to be amazing, and you should get an uber awesome award. Like maybe, a mod of the besterest threads :p

Jam Warz Reflections

If you enjoyed jam warz or any of my art, please take the time to bare with me and read through this. I honestly look back at my origional Jam Warz peices and the quality of the art was shit. But what in my mind Jam Warz had was a story line and a sense of fun that other peices didn't. And that could be attributed to the fact I enjoyed making them.

As time progressed I slowly improved making stuff I had at one point never thought possible. I really don't know what I was thinking when I decided to make the leap into animation when I was still just getting fairly good with fireworks. My skills have even improved from that point in fireworks and the animation in Part 20 must reflect this. But unlike with my fireworks skills, my Flash skills have to jump massively in quality in a short period.

I just haven't had the time to get my animation skills up to par with my graphic design skills. This has made Part 20 a project that has made me want to bash my head against the keyboard until I was dead at times. But in the back of my mind there is a vision of what I want this cartoon to turn out as. I can visualize what it will look like, and how it will play out. It just seems so long in the process getting there with the many many many setbacks that have been thrown my way.

All this has raised the bar for expectations considering my work, making even normal art images not up to what is expected from me. And this shows with the amount of replies/reactions I get from forum members. I remember for a long time I would get on MSN and I would be bombarded with messages, to the point where I had to get a new MSN. Now it is a great event when just my close friends from here (Sparks, Fox, Hippo, Zekey, Yak, BIAB, etc) reply. But I really brought this upon myself.

So here we are in 2006 and im 6 months away from being on these forums for 2 years, and Part 20 still isn't out. I can blame it on family issues, college, 40 hour work weeks, hd crashes loosing almost completed works, etc etc but the fact is that its still under development. In some ways I think this is a good thing, because I really don't think that I could have pulled off what I have invisioned with my skills at that time. The bottom line is that it isn't done, and to bring it in the quality that I want it will take some time.

Now this brings up the issue of what will be in this thread until Part 20 is done. I have been honored to have my thread put up in the besterest threads, and I don't want it to go to waste. So far during part 20 development I have been doing random art peices etc etc. And slowly the thread has died. So maybe I should say the ending point is what do you want to see here? Part 20 updates will still be posted, but it just doesn't seem to cut it. I don't want this to be mistaken as a request thread where people say "I want caek and p13 wit W33bl!!!!!111". Submit ideas for art peices that you would like to see, and you think others would enjoy.

Its 2006, a new year and the release date of Part 20 is getting closer. Im doing back ups of it everyweek so there will be no more HD delays. And I have even been enlisting some outside help to make sure this gets up to par with what I have in my mind. Those of you that read the script just have a little insight into what Part 20 will bring to the table this year. And the very few (maybe 2 or 3) that know most of what it will have know they will be killed for leaking it out :). So hopefully in the new year there will be life brought back into this thread.

But the suspence is great. And I probably would have missed it if you'd done it earlier, or had to search through hundreds of pages, what with not coming on for the best part of 6 months. Part 18 and 19 were animated, both if I remember correctly were hosted by fox at some point. He might still have a copy of them, I don't due to a prior HD crash. They were very short and nothing spectacular, so you didn't miss too much. Good to see there is one fan left :). I guess a lot of the origional fans like Cap N Zola are long gone now, and the remaining art fans know little or nothing about Jam Warz. Hopefully this will change with Part 20.

Panthers won against the NY Giants, so that means something good has to be instore. In light of the victory I think I will get some more work done....

I must admit Sand-Man that as someone who has been watching your art from the beginning even I can't remember how the story changed from being a Jam busting romp to the DooM themed scarefest that it became. I can't wait for 20 but I'm getting that this is becoming a duke nukem forever. :p

Sand-Man
08-01-2006, 11:39 PM
One of the few things I do remember is how it turned out to be a Doom themed toon. It would be better if I had the wavy screen cinematic to help us travel back in time, but here it is....

"The Characters Fox and Sand-Man started batteling General Skoo's Jam minions and proceded to stop him from a bomb assassination atempt, and even launching a nuke. But with General Skoo out of the way they found out the real mastermind was the Twig Cap N Zola (this is when the movie/game spoofs started). They looked in the woods for his hide out (Blair Witch Spoof), and then finally came across it (start of Scarface Spoof). After a big battle a car chase ensued that ended at an empty UAC Facility that Zola had been using a secret hide out. Fox, Sand-Man, and Zekey went in to hunt him down but mysteriously Zekey has disapeared, and they have left off with Blue Hippo handing over a BFG9K to help them in their hunt. They start heading out to find the Excevation elevator back to the never finished (top secret) UAC sector. The facility has deserted due to the unkown horrors coming from the excevation site, and there is where Zola lies in hiding."

I guess that could be called a quick summary of Jam Warz. I actually had about 90 percent of Part 20 finished at one point, but it went with my old HD and looking back it really didn't capture what I wanted to bring across. So unlike DN4 I actually almost completed my project :p, heh. I have tried to at least show im my latest peices that it will be more than easy on the eyes when its done. To an extent I have tried to show this with lighting, texture effects etc, than most (besides Zekey, Hippo, and Fox) if not all don't use (Even with Flash 8 out now). Maybe I missing something, or more than likely its the DN4 syndrome setting in. Either way time will tell.

Ooohh.... Sassy Door. If it is a door, not a logo. I bet its a logo now, right? Darn.

Well, Doorr or Logo, it still looks brilliant.
And I guess UAC is doom meaningful. Ive never played doom, but oh well.

Good work anyway Sand-Man!

Sand-Man
14-01-2006, 09:18 AM
Yes its a logo :). UAC is the company that has the mars reasearch base in Doom 3. So yes its doom meaningfull. The big news is the 2 lost episodes of Jam Warz were recovered when going back through my big stack of burned cds. They are animated yes... but very poorly in my opinion. Anyway here ya go:

UAC is the company that has the mars reasearch base in Doom 3.
And the Earth research/military bases in Doom 1 and 2.

May I ask for a brief synopsis of what you're posting? There's a lot of words and I'm lazy <3

Sand-Man
16-01-2006, 01:20 AM
A very breif synopsis is a battle against the jams and their leader General Skoo had revealed their true leader was the evil Cap N Zola (forum user now dormant). They chase him to his secret hide out which just so happens to be an abandoned UAC facility (due to unexplainable deaths in an expansion project of the "origional" Delta Labs). Now they must hunt Zola down fighting the unknown (very closely Doom based spoof). The main characters being Fox, Zekey, and Myself. Part 20 will wrap this all up with a horror/doom 3 spoof based animation.

That is honestly as short as I can cut it while keeping it coherent. The above is a comparison of Delta Labs 4 from Doom 3, and What will show up in the animation.

HOLY APPLE PIE!

Did you do that wall on fireworks?

OMG!

*worships Sand-Man and proclaims him as a minor diety*

Sand-Man
17-01-2006, 07:04 PM
Yes it was made in fireworks. Drew the basic blocks for the wall then added just a little bit of texture to them. Angled the ones that needed to look as if they were on a slant, added the vents, light bars, bolts and fine tuned the colors. Then lighting was done through free hand shading using the Basic > Airbrush. Then I added the blood effects using Unatural > Paint Splatter and a good liberal use of the smudge tool. Here is a comparison of the blocks vs final product:

Heh I have the ability for people to see my reputation disabled, but I still get the comments/points. I disabled it because the first time through art threads were based too much on rep, and I really got sick of the whole rep wars. Anyway..... the vehicle has 1,000 plus lines for the "skeleton" all shading is done with Basic > Airbursh in white(lights)/black(shading) at 30 percent opacity, the sunset is also airbrush with about 60 opacity and the smudge tool is used liberally, little grass tuffs were done airbrush also will a bevel boss, trees were a pain in the ass but ended up using the scratch texture at 100 percent plus branch skeletons as guides, the dirt is a mixture of 2 brown textures with the Sand gradient at about 20 percent opacity, and thats about all I can think of. Time Break Down:

Sunset w/ Trees: 4 hours
Vehicle Base: 2 hours
Tires: 4 hours (700 something lines a peice)
Shading: 5 hours

You are probably wondering about the tires.... here is a side by side of the tires how they started before getting shrunk down and modified even more:

http://img354.imageshack.us/img354/4194/tsl8xo.jpg

As far as 3d goes Ill never tell O-) . I really appreciate your guys comments, it makes the work all the more fufilling. When you put the patience and effort into using 13 hours of your weekend to make an art peice, a warm reception is greatly appreciated. Might do a daytime peice, now that will be killer.... both in eye candy and making me want to jump out a window in difficulty.

PureEvilYak
19-02-2006, 09:53 AM
Jumping out of a window ussually hurts.
But still brilliant. Er... the work, not the pain of the window-out-jumping thereof.

btw... when we rep you, do you still get the points? as in cash, not reputation.

As far as the rust filter goes, there are variants for most of the eye candy filters allowing you to get different type of effects from the same filter. There were a few that looked more like rust but with those colors they didn't show up nicely. As far as where to get these for download, you will have to use torrents. Or if you ever see me on AIM/MSN I will be more than happy to send them to you (all 4 total are about 30mb). The one I am most proud of is the Vista wall paper, it wasn't as easy as just applying a filter, but it was worth the effort.

Edit: Fixed, yeah double vision a new filter, lol

Incase that wasn't quite clear enough if you do any search in google for torrents such as "Eye Candy 4000 Torrent" more than likely a Mini Nova link will be listed. From there nab the torrent and your set. If you have any questions PM me and I will help further, I don't think Jonti and the other admins would appreciate direct Torrent links in here. Anyway this gives me some great ideas for Part 20 (yes I didn't forget about it). So it will be worth it for those of you left still with me here.

I have some good news pertaining to Part 20 hopefully. Lately I have been sick so I haven't gotten much done Part 20 wise. But with the term ending this week, and with them not having any classes for me to take next term, I will have 5 weeks off. This little suprise should allow for me to get the ball rolling again on part 20 getting more of the extensive graphical work done. Until then here is a little rune design I worked on today, I was tempted to use the glow filter but it didn't look right so I airbrushed it all "by hand".

Once again we come back to torrents. The Windows Vista Beta Build 2 (5342) is around 2.3GB (its on a DVD for the actual testers). You get a 14 Day trial with the serial key provided, and there is supposedly an Activation bypass. Its not ideal for people looking for an OS to use day to day. I have a second HD I use for backup purposes, so I just mess around with it on there while keeping Windows XP Corporate on my main Serial ATA HD.

Suprisingly its not some secret illegal torrent O-) , main reputable websites have links to it. You only deal with legal issues when you start trying to bypass the Activation. I personally downloaded the torrent, loaded the ISO into Alcohol 120 and installed it from my XP HD onto my backup one. If you have the 2nd HD to mess around with it on I suggest getting it, other wise I would wait till January of 07 to mess with it.

I could go on and on about Windows Vista, but I will save that for some other time. Right now I am trying to focus on studying for exams tomorrow and maybe getting some part 20 stuff done.

Double post oh well... Lately I have been working on menus for the animation. Menus take forever to make (when you are making them after Doom 3 that is) and are a pain in the ass and just tiresome. It is tedious work, but the end result is worth it. Below is the main menu for Part 20, the middle button being the roll over color.
