It seems that you can be -'ed for no reason at all, maybe they should reintroduce the Rupee system, or add some checks and balances, so someone going around and -ing everyone doesn't occur, just a thought, please don't flame me and such.

Somebody said in another thread that someone's name should appear if they rate you for no reason. I agree with that, though it'd be tough to implement.
I don't know about the rupie system, though, so I couldn't say which was better. I just registered as soon as the new system came in to place.

empty comments should be replaced with the name? Thats a good idea, yeah.
After you rate someone, you cannot rate them again until another 20 people have rated that person - that stops mass minusing.
You can only rate 10 people every 24 hours. That also reduces mass minusing.
The rupie system failed to do it's job. The new system does, without a doubt.

Yes, but that person can still go around minusing everyone, he can even make multiple accounts to do it, massing can still happen

If you had read the rules, you'd know that you can't have any effect on somebody's reputation if you have under 10 reputation or 50 posts, thus, you'd have to post a hell of a lot in order to do multiple account massing.
He can also go around minusing everybody he wants, but those types of people probably wouldn't have a whole lot of reputation to begin with, and will probably get banned in the future anyway. Besides, they'd only be able to minus ten people a day, and they wouldn't be able to minus the same person twice for a long time.

It has its pros and cons, but it seems the pros well out weigh the cons (all stated above).

Fortal Hero expained it perfectly.
So some shitty n00b hates you. So what? He probably has about 9 reputation points and therefore, can't do any damage. If someone with over 200 rep doesn't like you then it's probably because you're one of the little shite spammers.
Now that I think about it, its' quite like the system at Newgrounds, you vote on a number of submissions and then you can deposit 10 points to your account. Once you reach a certain amount of points, you level up by one and therefore have more voting power. A level 1 will have the power of 1 vote whereas someone who is level 10, and seeing as they've been around a while, will most likely know the forums, know the site and be able to properly judge whether something is good or not and vote fairly, so they're more likely to have a voting power of something like 7 votes :)

The system does a good job covering most of the bases. But people will still get fustrated from the people that post negative comments for no reason, or don't even put a reason at all. Like I got a negative comment on my art thread, but there was no reason given. It is fustrating at times, but over all this is the best way to have it.

Well it was worse with the rupies. There was no comment at all then, or link to the post that had been minused or plussed. This system is much better at weeding out the spammers, plus I think this forum has improved since the removal of rupies. People don't spam now just to gain rupies.

Well I can only base my opinions on what I have heard about the rupies system. I wasn't posting at that time. But from the looks of it, the reputation system is doing a good job. Even with its minor flaws.

Besides, if someone really had the initiative to somehow get multiple accounts with the power to rate reputation, and then went on a mass minusing streak just for kicks, then an admin could IP ban, and if necessary, remove the offending ratings. I'm not really worried about that sort of thing. That's not to say that the system is perfect, but it's pretty well thought out, and it's better than any other ranking system that I've seen, so I'm happy.

I completely agree. I think winston churchill said it best when he said "I can promise you nothing but blood sweat and tears" or something
