I breifly mentioned this in another thread, but I wanted to get some more opinions. What do you think of DN4 taking approx. 7+ years to be completed? The only thing we know for sure about the game is that is taking Forver like the name says. Can 3DRealms really produce a game that will stand up to the negative views it has gotten?

If they can release a game that beats out duke nukem 3d... i'm there. i still play 3d myself... that and shadow warrior. I'd liek to see a sequel to THAT. From what I heard years ago, DNF is supposed to be awesome. I can't wait to play it, though I might be 40 by the time it's released.

I doubt it will be worth it. The technology for that game is now ancient and it would cost them a fortune top try and update it to DooM 3 and HL2 standards (as it should be). Sounds like this is going to be the next Dakiantana.

Nothing beats the old Duke!

3D is only good for dancing and singing La Cucaracha.

Oh how i loved the Duke Nukem 3D, and for that Rise Of the Triads. But let's face it, if Forever sees the light of day, it's going to blow.

Well companies usually don't just say "we aren't going to release screens" , "we don't want to give out any information", and "its done when its done". This usually means they have no god forsaken clue what they are doing and will never release it.

They day it comes out will be the day Slashdot closes its doors.

In about five years they'll still be working on it; two years after that they'll say "screw you guys, I'm going home!"

Duke Nukem 3d is gonna rule anyway, no matter what they make

You can't beat the fun, running around the 2d strippers in order to see more :D

i think a poll "will DNF be released" would be more appropriate.

DNF - did not finish. coincidence? I THINK NOT.

Well the question is will it be worth getting if it comes out at all. They hyped the game way to early and now it probably won't live up to peoples expectations. Unless they can out do Doom III (and HL2).

"DNF will be released when it's done" .. official sentence from the project leader
www.3drealms.com (http://www.3drealms.com) The DNF forum is worth the check though

Duke 3D is still the funniest doom like ever done...
No games ever offered you to pay strippers :p unless maybe you can give money to those ugly monsters in Doom 3 so they can dance the Badger song ;)

hehe for a looooooooong time now
little hope survives but it's gonna rock if it's ever released

They used 2 engines I think .. they now using a heavily customised UT engine
features ragdolls and such....

ragdoll + strippers.... oh sweeeet

I have looked at the Duke Nukem 4 threads, they aren't that great. Semi Interesting, but I don't see the point in posting about a game that has no release time period even.

DNF still exists because we still talk about it.. let's not talk about it and it'll vanish hehe

It might end up being the game that never gets produced thats always indevelopment. It would look really bad if they just said they weren't going to release it. If they keep saying they are still making it, it makes it at least look like they are doing something.

Unless they release it before Doom 3, HL2 and Quake 4, it won't do aswell, if they can't release it before then its curtains, I reckon

I almost forgot about DN64. I really enjoyed playing that game, and the SMG's wear a great addition. I still play both 3D and 64 (in the rom form).

Doom 3 is out on August 3rd ... HL2 in september I think
I want to believe in DNF but 7 years...
maybe they'll bring the bestest game ever made... they better do or they may go bankrupt I guess

IF DN4 is released, and if it still has the arcade feel of DN3D then it'll be amazing. But after 7 years, chances are, we're going to see a completely different duke, maybe with the enhancement of Halo-like team play.

But i don't want that. I want the frantic alien brain bursting madness of 3D, and God forbid they wash Duke's filthy sense of humour.

Team play in Duke... maybe in the multi player mode but not in the one player mode
I just remembered the Holo Dukes, the trip bombs and the Jetpack.... ahhhhh !!!!!
nothing can beat an Holo Duke. :notworthy
I don't remember any other game with holograms

Here's a joke for you.

Duke Nukem Forever.

Some sort of mild update - They are talking about what One Liners fans want to see in the game, which might suggest they are (finally) reaching some sort of Post-Production stage.

When the countries of the world begin to destroy each other with a nuclear war, all civilization has fallen, and earth has has been taken over by evolved intelligent apes, those apes will still be waiting for Duke Nukem Forever.

Anybody played Serious Sam 2? In some (usually hidden or out of the way areas) they reference the fact that DNF is taking forever. Picture this:

A skeleton hanging, with a duke-esqe hairstyle, from a tree with a rocket up its arse. to which Sam just says "Hey dude, you've been hanging there, like, FOREVER.".

But yeah, the day they release it will be the day Microsoft makes a bug free operating system.

I remember reading the Duke Nukem 3D review in PC Gamer when it came out in 1996. In that same issue they had the first screenshots of Prey, two tiny blurry shots. The fact that Prey managed to become vapourware, then go back into development, then get released and fade into obscurity and the DN3D sequel is still apparently in development is staggering. I can't help thinking that is/when DNF does come out it'll be a similar affair to Prey; a decent but unremarkable game that just fades into obscurity in a few months.

At this point it would surely have to be a monster hit to make back the money spent in development, and I just can't imagine it happening. Duke seems like such an antiquated character, coming from a time when it was so novel having an FPS character that talked that nobody cared how one-dimensional he was. I just don't know if there's going to be the same demand for throwing money at strippers and saying lines from The Evil Dead as there used to be.

I was always a Quake man, myself. Not that the Quake series is doing much better. :(

Hehe, awesome. I think the Sam & Max monthly episodic 'series' that's going on at the moment should make similar jokes about Valve's bizarre interpretation of "episodic" content. I'm all for developers making fun of each other.

Ooh, burn.

Those alien bastards are gonna pay for...

...not putting out a sequel to DN3D.
Shake it, baby.
