Long long ago, in a galaxy you are reading this in, I was but a young Zekey. And my favorite arcade game was a fanciful little adventure called Bubble Bobble.

It was simple enough. Bub and Bob were elves who had been cursed and turned into small bubble-spitting dinosaurs. In the hopes of one day becoming elves again, Bub and Bob descended into the cave of monsters and fought off many beasties using the powers of bubbles, water, lightning, and midi music.

I loved these games. I played every one.

A few years later, Taito, the company responsible for these enigmatic masterpeices of gamery, made a puzzle game unlike anything ever attempted before. It was called Bust-a-Move, and I fell in love with these games as well. I played each PS and PS2 version of this game, and lurved them all.

But my love was bad. I became so enamoured with these games, that I ignored my family, my friends, my food. Every night was a bubbly party filled with walking toasters and special guests like the RainBow Islands, the Liquid Kids, and Kirby. I soon found myself snorting the video games to give myself an unbeleivable high.

Then one morning I woke up. And all my tiny 50x50 pixel friends were gone. Their games still worked, but they themselves were AWOL. Taito, who had been a large functionary of the SNK Neo-Geo empire, were dealing with a crisis. SNK was out of business. They bounced back. But SNK went out of business several more times, taking with them the Metal Slug series and Samurai Showdown. Taito was forced to strike out on their own.

Years passed. And every day was like a lifeage of the earth. Then something beautiful happened. A company called Playmore bought SNK and brought them back. Beautiful things happened. King of Fighters came back. Neo Geo came back. Samurai Showdown came back. Metal Slug 3 was planned for an XBox release and things seemed right.

But Taito was nowhere to be found. Or were they? With a Grand Redux Taito burst forth into the Video Game world with all flags flying amongst the loud shouts of "woo" and "yay" and "ham"

Super Bust a Move for the PS2. Super Bust a Move 2 for PS2. Super Bust a Move 3 for PS2 and Gamecube. Super Bust a Move for the GameBoyAdvance. Oh yes! Bub and Bob were back with a new cast of characters, a hilarious new style, terrible box art, and a pure style of gameplay that was missing in the industry. Bub and Bob were still dinosaurs, but they didnt seem to mind any longer.

But something was missing. I had the yearning to play the game of my childhood. But alas, except for a breif rebirth on the Playstation, no Bubble Bobble dared to show its face in public.

And so, I waited. For I knew that due to all the nostalgic games on the GameBoyAdvance that a new Bubble Bobble was definite. And it was. Last year around June, a new game was announced. Bubble Bobble advance.

Oh how I danced. Oh how I sang. Oh how I shit myself with such strength that my pants shot off my body and buried themselves under three feet of soil.

But my joy...
......was not to last. The game was cancelled at the beggining of this year. It no longer would be, and sad I was.

The only thing that kept me happy was the thought that Metal Slug advance would be coming out this year. But today, as I walked throught the mall, after eating a patty melt, I walked into the Electronics boutique.

I made my way through all the Sudekis, Vietnam war games, and other shite until I found the used games section.

At first I didnt notice it, sitting there in front of me. I was too busy looking about. But my eyes dis fall upon it and welled up in tears, for there was my favorite game. Beautifully remade for the Game Boy color, with color, a wide screen, the works. I stood there in shock and with trembling fingers. With a delicate hand I reached out and grasped the game. It was only $20, and thus I purchased it, and have spent the last hour of today consumed in glee and playing it nonstop.

- My name is ZekeySpaceyLizard. And I am a hardcore nostalgic gamer.

Nice to hear your story ZekeyLizard.

I remeber the Bust-a-move games fondly, they were in my leisure centre and in between games of Badminton with my club I would sit down and play Bust-a-move, King of Fighters 94 and Crisis Zone.

Then one day, they were gone, replaced with vending machines to keep the fat, fat for their services in the gym. That made me sad and I havent been there in a long while now.

But I am happy because I have finally completed Half Life today! Now to continue my obsesion into the add-on packs until Half Life 2 arrives.

I used to play one of them in this arcade in Greece, you could play it in two player and you hand to spit bubbles at the enemies and then pop them I think. It was fun, but I never got to the end. I don't know what it was called.

Hmmm.
Lets see,

apparently Bob is sick. And i order to cure his disease in this game, I must find Moon Water. Moon water? Lunar Liquid sounds cooler. But, now I must run through these levels and defeat all these beasts to find Moon Water.

Hmmm. I need to write that down on my big list of things to do.

* Buy Groceries

* Defeat the Olsen Twins evil empire

* Wash car

* Mow lawn

* Escape parole officer

* Cross the vast landscape and find water from the moon to cure my brothers illness.

As I said, I love Bubble Bobble.
I love it so much, I have created this montage to it constructed of screenshots, hand drawings, sprite rips, scanner images, and Paintshoproart. All blended together in a medley of beauty.

For those who dont know of either Bubble-Bobble or Bust-a-Move, you can simply stare at this thingie and make your own conclusions of the game.

But I will say this. You fellows who after beating GTA and then thought you were a l33tmast0r gamer? You wouldnt last 4 levels in this game. This game is hard. And the videogame market itself seems to be getting easier and easier to beat.

Anyway:

Very nice piture, I just wanted to say though in the picture of all the characters from bust a move the blue giant that appears to be holding the bust a move sign looks remarkably like Doshin the giant.

Oh man, I remember Bubble Bobble. We still have a copy of it for PS1 bundled with Rainbow Islands (which I never liked much, to be honest). A while back, me and my brother sat down and played Bubble Bobble, determined to finish all 100 levels. We still had about six credits left when we got to level 99, then lost them all. Incredibly frustrating, but so much fun.

And there's a Bust A Move arcade game at Funland in Piccadilly, London. Spent hours playing that a few weeks ago! There should be a law against games this addictive! :isay:

I loved Bubble Bobble and I still play it on my PC at home. You can download all the classic arcade games like Golden Axe, Gouls & Goblins, Mr Do's Castle etc and play them on an emulator.

I used to play BB on a commadore 64 with a mate in 2 player mode and we did complete it several times. The trick is to have one player protect the other, because if one player never loses a life then warps appear (in the form of an Umbrella) on certain levels that zoom you up a few levels. The first warp appears on level 7 I think and takes you to about 20 and if you manage to make sure you keep this up untill about level 50, then a mega warp appears that takes you to the final level and the big boss, who was called Baron Von Bubbler if my memory banks are still working properly.

I couldn't get into any of the spin-off games, although I think Rainbow Island is ok.

The Game Boy Advance re-make of Bubble Bobble was cancelled several months ago.

I was very sad when I learned that. Which is one of te main reasons I made this thread, to express my joy over Bubble Bobble for GameBoyColor.

I loved the spinoffs. Rainbow Islands and Liquid Kids.
Why wont a developer grow the balls to remake all these great simple and addictive games for the gameboy? WHY?????

Also, the Adventures of Lolo! Anyone remember that addictive little game by the people who made Kirby? Its also sorely in need of a remake.

My testicles exploded just thinking about it Nocashvalue.

Of course, it wont ever happen. Taito rarely make games anymore. Unless Namco or Konami buy them, I doubt we'll ever see another bubble bobble grace the earths crust again.

:( But it is nice to imagine.

I remember that game, and yes, they need to give it some love and remake it. It would make me very happy. :nana:

Let's hope there will be a nice homebrew scene for the DS and we might get it....
Nintendo upgraded his protection quite a lot on its gamecube but a cartridge console will always remain weaker than a disc one. hehehe :twisted:
