(Real name, Svlad Cjelli) Who here has read Douglas Adams Dirk Gently books? Long over shadowed by his Hitchhikers trilogy but in my opinion probably just as good! Obviously with it being a detective mystery book I shouldn't give too much away, I've yet to read The Long Dark Teatime Of The Soul too. Needless to say the cat is safe and well :p

I want an electric monk, what a cunning idea, only Adams could come up with something like that. Just better be careful stopping at any petrol stations late at night :ninja:

I have never actually read the Dirk Gently books but, having been reminded, I will definately seek them out.

After reading Hitchhikers, I got the Salmon of Doubt (a collection of stuff by DNA, finished off with his half finished final Dirk story...god I wish he could finish that), then the Dirk Gently omnibus.

I recommend to all!

Read the first one twice, second one (the long dark tea time of the soul) once, but am going to read the second one a second time in two weeks when I'm in Italy.

I've got the Hitchhiker's "triology", the Salmon of Doubt, Dirk Gently, The Long Dar Tea Time of the Soul and the meaning of liff :)

You need "Last Chance to See" then.

having been absolutely in love with the Hitchhiker books (constant quoting at every opportunity) i went on to read the Salmon of Doubt, which, as a mentioned before, contains a part of an unfinished Dirk Gently story, and ever since then it has become one of those "i will read this" books, but i just never got round to it. one of my greatest regrets, but i will read then one day!

I'm so sad, I have all the books Douglas Adams wrote/had the idea for/collabereated with someone for etc.
They are all great, and the Dirk Gently ones are no exception. They are just as funny as the hitchhikers trilogy (of 5), but less well known.

The meaning of liff, and the deeper meaning of liff are also hillarious, especially when traviling as you can find out what all the places you are at mean.

Yeah, I only have the first meaning of liff, funny though.

I have the whole hitchhikers series, all 3 Dirk Gently books (well, 2 and a half really, shame), and the deeper meaning of liff. I am trying to get the game of starship titanic, but failing so far.
My favourite quote is from the salmon of doubt - "I hate those signs that say 'thank you for not smoking'. They always make me want to light up immediately and say 'that's alright,
I wasn't going to not smoke anyway'."
It was a while ago that I read it, so the quote is probably not entirely accurate.
