View Full Version : The Coca~Cola Championship
Cos lets face it, not all our teams play in the Premiership.
It started today (along with League 1 & 2).
This is really a thread so I can post about Leeds but your welcome to post about your teams aswell.
Leeds 1 - 0 Derby - a great start to the season from Leeds, I'm watching it now and it seems they have quite a strong side despite losing 12 first team players.

Anyway, just got back from Reading, slightly dissapointed but it could be worse. The new signings looked pretty decent, Molango scored, Jarret looked dangerous, Nicolas won a lot of balls and passed well. Currie didn't really get much chance to do anything.
Anyway, Plymouth on Tuesday, we'll win that
I thought we played quite well, gave away two sloppy goals although in fairness Reading were the better team. Good to see us scoring even with Knighty suspended.
Here be the signings we made over the summer:
we signed 4 players,
Maheta Malongo, 22 year old striker, 6ft, quick and tricky, done well in preseason. Comes from some swiss club on a free, started out at Athletico Madrid but never made the seniors. Scored 14 seconds into his competive debut, but his ball control was a bit poor at times.
Albert Jarret, 19 year old pacey winger, was at Wimbledon last season. Impressed me against Reading, took players on, quick and skillful also got in goalscoring positions which was good as we only had 1 upfront.
Darren Currie, 29 year old winger/playmaker on a free from wycombe where he was their top scorer. Dont know much about him, has a reputation as a luxury player but says he wants to shake that off here.
Alexis Nicolas, 21 year old Cypriot, central midfielder, on a three month loan from Chelsea which could become permanent. Hopefully does as well as our last loan signing from Chelsea
Anyway, i think we can stay up this season, we looked a different proposition from last season much improved although i think a couplle more players could be needed.

Come on McCarthy's army-okay we got off to a shit start but we did last season-
sunderland didnt deserve to lose 2-0 even though their goals were fair in my mind a 1-0 or draw wouldve been more accurate. It was a lacklustre performance by sunderland but we can do a lot better and the heat had a lot to do with it
however im still confident of another top 3 finish and depending on how the new players settle in and how some of the youngsters from last season do i think theyve got a good chance to win the division-or is it a championship now?-anyhoo i think they have one of the most exciting young squads in the country

Hmmm feel bit out o place with my premiership team Southampton but as they are not huge stars i hope you'll accept them. Not started officially yet but did well against the italian team Chievo with a 3-1 win, our last warm up game before the season starts. Can't believe they're still on about bringing Glen Hoddle back to us tho after he walked out to join Spurs as they were a 'bigger' club. Gimp. (No offence to spurs fans)

Baaad start for Brighton... They go 1-0 up after 16 odd seconds, and lose 3-2...*sigh*
I will go a bit of topic by going into division 1 or 2 or whatever its called now and moan, because my beloved Oldham lost.
1-0 up to 2-1 down it makes me crie.

Performance wasn't that bad though. Two sloppy goals conceded, Harding showed his inexperience :(
woo go Kevin Sullivan penetly stopper in a match I felt before hand we should of won.
Leeds may struggle more then I first thought but its early days yet.
Decidedly fishy

Probably 'cause they'll be here soon :p
Anyway, we got our first point of the season, yay!
It could have been three, we were the better team but didn't create any clear cut chances, then let them have a goal by bad defending.
Decidedly fishy

sunderland arent doing too bad in the can of pop league- luckily after dropping 5 points are only 3 points adrift of third----we played brilliantly against crewe and could easily have won 6 or 7-1 but against qpr we were poor however im optimistic if we get a good run itll build up the confidence we need and when we get a few players fully fit theres no reason we cant be near thetop of the league

man sunderland need a finisher-we have the potential to great and potentially finish top of the league but if we carry on playing like we are we'll be lucky to make the playoffs- at least we are ahead of Leeds and a couple of other respected teams---but we need to play better to reach our potential---when we played against crewe we were great but havent been as good since---i think what sunderland need is a mix up centre midfield and start playing thornton in place ofwhitley---ideally mccarthy needs another good striker and anew kevin ball type player -but then again that aint going to happen seen as they are in heeps of debt

As far as League one is concerned, I'm happy as long as Milton Keynes keeps losing :D
In other non-premiership news, AFC Wimbledon still have a 100% win record 5 games into the season, and are top of the league in the Ryman First Division! w00t! :D
