View Full Version : Should Eriksson be sacked?

Well to be honest, I would've liked him to be sacked. In fact I wasn't happy with the appointment in the first place. Like Scholes (retired for those of you who don't know), I believe it's the England team, and we should have an English manager. In fact I think FIFA should pass a rule saying that the manager of a national team should be of that nationality. I don't care if he had an affair with the FA's secretary, that's got nothing to do with football. It's like England having Tony Blair as PM. Oh well what are your views?

Yeah, why not. He's shit anyway. He didn't really getta understanding of the team anyway, did he? I'm not saying all foreign managers won't work but he was just shit.
I think the case stands out more up here in Scotland where you really just need a Scottish manager who knows what's going on. I'm not saying that foreign managers are bad at all, it's just easier when you are manager of your own country and you know where you stand.
English team gets faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrr too much press anyway and that will screw with the players minds. Just look at Beckham for a start :p

It seems strange to me that teh English FA seem to be the only national FA that won't sack a manager on performances. Sven hasn't moved the national team forward in all the time he's been in charge. One good game against a poor Croatia side doesn't mark an improvement. Look at Italy. Poor Euro 2004 - Trappitoni is gone. But England, before the competition has even taken place, sign their manager up for how many more years?? On a practically unbreakable contract of £4million a year! It's crazy. I don't know where this belief and idea that Eriksson is this tactical genius has come from. He certainly hasn't shown it. Not against Brazil, not against France, not agaisnt Portugal. And it's these games that are the impotant ones. And the team didn't fail dramatically with all guns blazing, but on each occasion just whimpered away and died.
So yes, he should be sacked.

Oh and also, what's going to happen now that Scholes has retired?

*agrees*
I've been getting gradually more annoyed with Sven - he's done absolutely nothing for the squad. I'm female and don't even pay that much attention to football, but surely it's obvious to anyone that if the team keeps losing games, the manager should be sacked? If he can't choose a winning team and get us some glory, he shouldn't be here!
*Is getting very sick of England losing everythingv - has gone back to supporting Greece - at least they won Euro 2004 :) *
Okay, the affair with that women didn't actually reflect on his work, but as he's a crap manager anyway, couldn't the FA have found an excuse to sack him for it? Not only is he a crap manager, he's also a cheating scumbag.
*Really is not keen on Sven right now*

No, but the affairs, first with Ulrika, and next with Faria Alam, show something of the man. He clearly is an arrogant, self obsessed individual, who's personal life can only detract from his job. Also, the way he treats the players is very strange. He seems to have certain favourites, like Owen and Beckham, who can do no wrong. He previously said he would never sub Beckham, and if ift would always play. Well it has since come out that Beckham wasn't fuuly fit during euro2004, and still was played every game. And even though he was pretty poor, was never going to be subbed. Is it just me, or is that a very strange situation?

I agree with this, also it seesm to me that he has no respect for the FA/his job and therefore the Ednglan players and fans.

Owen and Beckham are'nt jusy his favourites, they're England's
and they've been our two most important players for some time. But Beckham clearly wasn't fully fit, Eriksson substituted Owen in all three qualifying games, even though he did much better than Beckham i thought. :(
Anyway he should go, the way we play against big teams (Argentina, Brazil, France, Portugal) shows Svens lack of courage and belief in the team, for that he should go. Micky Adams for England. Seriously.

And what the hell does Sven do to get women to sleep with him? Spike their drinks? I can't imagine any other possible way.

*goes misty-eyed as she thinks of money*
*cough*
In my opinoin he should be sacked just for bringing on heskey.

even if he did have an affair, the entire team is in disarray.
the guy needs to set the team straight or get packing

Give him the sack I say.
You can't take 4 world class midfielders and ask them to play as defenders.

I find it hard to believe that the whole association is fragile enough to be (quote from media) "torn apart" simply by stories of who's shagging who. What's it got to do with football? Who the hell cares?
The whole thing made me like football even less, which I previously thought impossible.

He was going to be sacked because he lied to them about his affair which they had to issue a statement on, and they had to embarrassingly retract it and issue a new one when it all blew up in his face and came out ... I'm a bit fed up of hearing on the telly people saying 'whats his personal life got to do with football?' when it wasn't anything to do with that.

OK so it's all about the telling of lies and misleading people. I understand.
But, irrespective of the lies Sven told, I wonder why the FA had to issue a statement on the sex lives of it's employees in the first place?
