View Full Version : Clan Server

I am in the process of getting a server from 34sp.com.

I haven't paid yet as you pay after you've inquired about the order, but basically it's 20 quid.

I don't mind paying this, but was just wondering before I go ahead-Is it necessary?

And after looking around I saw that jolt have a "clan pay" system, where it splits the price between the clan. Now if we order a server for a year and have say 8 players, the final price each is 2.25 each/month.
(edit: that is based on a 12-slot, so if we have 12 players which is the max anyway, it's 1.50 each)
Now I dunno about you but that seems reasonable to me, and you just need a credit, debit card or paypal account.

Iam willing to pay around a fiver, after I get back from my holiday on the 28th, if you all give us your home address we could send you the money, I don't obviously have paypal or a debit card because im only 15. Perhaps I coudl sort out money matters for it when I get back.

I won't mind helping with the upkeep!

Can't wait for this new server, just wondering, is it a public or a private server?
And what maps will be on the cycle?

Lewiji

Private, passworded, and (when it is set up which should be within 24hrs) we'll have full ftp access so whatever maps and mods you want will be on there :D

I don't mind paying for this month as I've got some spare monies, however if we decide to keep it I wouldn't mind some financial help next month :p If you could paypal any amount to contact@xebsoftware.com it'd be much appreciated.

That's fine, I can afford it, it's just nice to have some help :p

Anyway IT'S UP but I haven't tested it properly yet so...yeah.

The Steam:Counter-Strike server that you have requested is now up and running.

Below are the details that you will require for access to this.

IP:PORT = 212.187.158.18:27045 (turok.34sp.com:27045)

If you (well you will) want the password pm so we don't get any intruders :p

Also if you have a request for a map or whatever just tell me and I'll do my best to get it on there.

Stringy Pete
09-08-2004, 10:40 AM
How about no

Lewiji
09-08-2004, 11:17 AM
Exactly what I was going to say :p

Maps currently installed are:

de_airstrip
cs_havana
de_chateau
de_aztec
as_oilrig
cs_siege
de_cbble
de_dust
cs_747
de_prodigy
cs_assault
cs_office
cs_italy
cs_backalley
cs_militia
de_train
cs_mario_b2
de_pacman
starwars2

However I need to change rcon to amx, as rcon seems to be bugging out on me (if you changelevel twice in a row it decides to give you connection problems, eventually time you out and then have pings of about 1000 for a few seconds.)

jimeh

Could there be a couple of jump maps installed for those rain days?

And what is the map cycle?

Lewiji
09-08-2004, 12:25 PM
Yeah, just give me a name and I'll install :p de_pacman doesn't appear to be working though :(

Trying to install AMX but it's not working. Metamod and AMX is uploaded correctly into maingame/cstrike/addons, and my startup file's boot command reads:
./hlds_run -game cstrike +map de_dust +maxplayers 10 +ip 212.187.158.18 +port 27045 -autoupdate -dll /addons/metamod/dlls/metamod_i386.so

And I've configured AMX with a couple of admins, but metamod or amx just don't work.

Using meta version command to test metamod doesn't return anything.

Any help here?

wyrd_fish
09-08-2004, 12:53 PM
when i installed meta mod and amx it all went smoothly

have you edited server.cfg?

Lewiji
09-08-2004, 01:08 PM
Haven't edited server.cfg, didn't see anything in the docs that mentioned it...what am I supposed to add?

wyrd_fish
09-08-2004, 01:11 PM
i can't remember

i know some cfg editing was involved... maybe if you ask 34sp, there usually extremly helpful

Lewiji
09-08-2004, 01:22 PM
Checked through everything I had to edit and it's been done...
I've just realised something though.
To check if metamod is installed correctly you type "meta version" into the console (no quotes)
And it returns a load of crap about when it was released etc.
when I typed this nothing is returned.
I saw on another forum that this one person who is having troubles typed meta version and got an error "command does not exist meta version", mine doesn't.
So basically, the server is recognizing the command, but not doing anything about it

Arrgh!

jimeh

Server seems to be working pretty nicely, unless me and boyinabox didn't notice anything wrong. cs_marioland is bloody cool.

Lewiji
09-08-2004, 04:44 PM
Heh, also bloody strange :p

You didn't happen to go on de_pacman did you? It's just it seems to crash (at least my end) when I try to switch to it.

AMX PROBLEMS UPDATE ARGH

I reset the server and fiddled with a few settings and it now recognizes metamod, w00t.
I type metamod list to list the installed metamod plugins. I have set it to include CSStats, Fun mod, something like AVex and AMX itself.
So I restart again and it lists CSStats and the Fun mod. The other's don't show up. So I changed the order-and still only CSStats and Fun mod show up.

ARGH

Edit: You know what, if noone comes up with anything, I think I'll just install adminmod instead :p

wyrd_fish

i prefer admin mod, personaly

Stringy Pete

I have no real preference between AdminMod and AMX, I've used both, but I've been using AMX more recently so I am familiar with it.

By the way I've found the problem where using adminmod would disable talking.

Basically the commandmenu has to use the messagemode command to turn anything "say:"'d into whatever the command is parsing.
So if you pressed kick user in the menu, it's use the command admin_messagemode to turn say into a place you can specify a user.
Because HL's commandmenu is too basic to do something after a command, it doesn't turn it off, so it still parses things said in "say:" as commands.
To fix it, either use admin_nomessagemode to get it back to say, or bind a key to it.

For example commandmenu is bound to F11 here, and admin_nomessagemode is bound to F12. So I'll press F11, choose an option, type something then press F12. Not great but better than nothing.
Btw, the command is:
bind F12 "admin_nomessagemode"

wyrd_fish
12-08-2004, 06:00 PM
i added

"#" "Fix 'say' command" "admin_messagemode say"

to the end of my commandmenu.txt, you just have to remember to click it everynow and again

when playing with playbus and MUG yesterday I noticed the maptime is only 8 minutes. Could this be stretchted to 15 or 20 or is there a reason for the short time?

Playbus

Yes right now

Since the server seems so empty, maybe it would be a good idea to increase the player limit and have a few bots running, say 4-6 of them.

I know with PODBot you can set it so that if the server gets full with people joining, the bots will leave, so you can still get a full complement of human players.

But it would be nice if they were there when it was empty to pad out the game a bit.

true
although bots are way too easy,
and maybe a somewhat more realistic maprotation?
(as im not much of a fan of starwars_maps)

You told me you weren't on the forums, wanker. :p
I personally think that bots would be a good idea, but would the admins of the server be able to take out the bots when there are a decent number of people in the server?

And I agree with mr. piss that starwars maps are boring, but lewigi obviously likes it, and he's kind enough to host the server for us, so we should let him have it.

And I also agree that 8 minutes is too short. You can never (well, rarely) even get 10 frags in that amount of time when there are only a few people in the server.

Lewiji
13-08-2004, 06:21 PM
Increase player limit is a no, it costs more :p
Bots are also a no, I set up podbot but 34sp said it takes up too much CPU, and not many online server hosts will allow bots.
I will however increase the round time, it was low for when we were testing the server.

Also maps, I don't know many maps as I tend to stick around UK2 servers who generally use standard maps, so tell me what you like and don't like and I'll add/remove them.

Actually I quite like the Star Wars map on the server, I've played the standard maps so much that I like variety.

*shoots self* Sorry, I must have accidently skipped a line in your post because I don't remember that at all.

Well, if bots take up too much CPU, then that's a definate no no.
As for player increase, I think that 10 is enough, personally. We don't want to make lewiji have to pay more when we'll barely ever have 10 players anyway.

I have no trouble getting into the server, however every time I shut down steam it drops off my favourites list for some reason. I have to add it every time!

None of my numerous other favourites do this.

Anyone else had this problem?

A 10 player server is fine, most matches are 5v5, and we don't want 'practices' to be 10v10 deathmatches on dust.

The only favourite problems I have are that my in-game favourites aren't the same as viewed from windows, which is odd. Could that be the problem you have?

And Ivan, stop making rubbish posts in the CS clan forum.

I have the same problem. I always have to copy and paste the ip address from the clan site. Not a huge problem, but it gets rather annoying.

they don't want random people reading the thread and seeing the details and telling their friends and having loads of weirdos playing. or something.

It is for the forum, but its for the little CS clique that we are trying to create, not all and sundry.
If anyone actually wants it, its only a PM away.

Hi,
If you dont want all n sundry from weebls forums playing on the server then why even bother to post here?

You would be better off having your own website and doing your own thing, on your own forums on your own server imo.

Stringy Pete
16-08-2004, 10:38 AM
If someone wants to play its a PM away, or all they need to do is join #weebl.cs. I didn't pay for the server so its not particularly up to me who gets the password and who doesn't, but I don't see anything wrong with the format at the moment.

and cheechy you of all people, being a mod, must know the huge amount of dicks who find this forum everyday :(

although we don't insist on people being any good, we'd prefer it if they wern't wankers

Cheechy
16-08-2004, 11:36 AM
Well its fairly simple.
We try to keep dicks at bay.

Having run the largest european gaming servers I know what its like to have idiots and cheats on. I fancied checking out this weebls community server the other night, but I aint chasing round for a pass. Was expecting to find it in here - being the forum for this alleged server?

If you get idiots on then i'm sure theres people out there with rcon who can kick them. That's how things usually work.

Seraph
16-08-2004, 02:17 PM
Not sure if you will want, or even can.. but i made a logo.

Maybe for the server? so its not just text on the intro?

If you dont like it, its okay because i had fun making it! :p

I know we haven't been very active.

I know the server has hardly been used.

But payment is due...

Do you think we should carry on with the server? If we should then I could do with some contributions to contact[at]xebsoftware.com (paypal) as it's 20 quid and I'm unemployed and have a huge phone bill due to accidental WAP use.

I think possibly the password to the server should be put in the announcement to the IRC channel. I doubt "dicks" would look that far for it.

mrikasu
28-08-2004, 08:55 AM
It would seem to me that as we hardly use it, a better idea might be for someone to just set one up at home.

It wouldn't be as quick and stuff but for a few people being connected it would work fine (probably).

If you do keep it though I might give you a fiver (if I decide to take an active role in this.)
