Okay. I saw this and thought it looked pretty good fun.
I have never really played much online games before, just the odd bit of Unreal Tournament and that's about it.
(Read, you will slaughter me)
So I went out and bought Half Life Generations (with Counter Strike).
I gather that you now need to use Steam to be able to play online or at least to get the latest versions and patches.
I downloaded this no problem but on trying to add my game to Steam it rejected my CD key saying that someone had already used it.
This was a bit odd since the game was sealed and brand new.
Anyone have any ideas on what I should do now?
Who should I contact? The shop I bought it from (HMV) or Sierra or Valve or what?
Sorry if this is the wrong place but I figured that people in here probably have the best knowledge of Counter Strike and stuff surrounding it.
All help welcome.

Thats rather unfortunate.
I would say your best bet would be to contact Valve....

You should contact Valve
here (http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=support) , use the troubleshooter
And I think you have to take pictures of your game and CD-key so they can reset any accounts made with the same key. Those have to be send to an e-mailadress.

because you have half life generations, try all 3 cd keys. When i tried my half life one it said it didn't work either, so i tried my opposing force one and it worked.

Thanks. It says I need to send in pictures of the Game, CD Key and receipt. Sadly I think the receipt was thrown out. I will try sending them an email anyway just in case they are feeling generous! Let's hope it works.

Hi,
I have seen this a few times before.
In the past valve have been fairly helpful if you email them with enough info.
The only other alternative is to take the game back to the shop and ask for another copy.

Are you sure that your computer is good enough to run it? What are your specs?
Invader Gir

specs?
im not really good with computers
Wahoo
26-08-2004, 10:44 AM
specifications, like, processor speed? ram? graphics card?
if it's all blurry, have you tried switching video modes, it sounds like your in software mode, change it to opengl and you should see a vast improvement.

Start --> Run -- > dxdiag
Copy relevant stuff from processor and memory on the first tab
Go to 'Display' tab, and copy the information from the device section.
Thats the essential stuff that we need to ascertain whether or not you can run it.

ARGHRHGHGH!
That would probably explain it. That graphics adaptor is an 'on-board' adaptor, i.e. one that is built onto the motherboard. There is pretty much no chance of being able to play CS with it.
You have 2 options:
1)Get an AGP graphics card (even cheap ones will run CS)
2)Get a PCI graphics card (If you have no AGP slot)
3)Don't play CS.
Sorry if that sounds dismissive, but thats the way it is.
Do you know if you have an agp slot?
Invader Gir
26-08-2004, 11:17 AM
im only 13 and im not really good at comps and has no idea what an apg slot is
edit: i was able to play it before but when my mums bf left he deleted it and i have not been able to play it since even though i bought my own version of cs
Stringy Pete
26-08-2004, 11:20 AM
 Well the easy way to tell would be to take the side of the case off, but if you don't know what an AGP slot is then I wouldn't recommend it.
Other than getting a graphics card there isn't really a way that you can play cs :s
When I tried playing CS with my on-board graphics once when my graphics card was broken it ran jerkily even on 640x480.

Is it just me or are UK2 beginners servers harder than random internet servers?
I think its either:
Less adrenaline
No backup

It'll be next to the PCI slots which are the big ones that connect to the back of the case.

Make sure you have Half life, then install steam, set up an account, right click the icon in the taskbar, press play games and double click CS-it should update it or if you've already got it updated run it-then goto servers and choose one. It should work-was a breeze for me :)
