Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson has been sacked by the club after their poor start to the Premiership season.

Two points from four games have left the Magpies 16th in the league.

A statement from the club explained that the directors had informed the 71-year-old Robson that he was to be replaced as team manager.

The club have yet to announce a replacement for Robson, who has been at St James' Park since taking over from Ruud Gullit in 1999.

Ouch.

They should've taken care of this in the close season, not now.

Thoughts?

At last. Not that I really care. Newcastle will probably become a crap club now, because players will want to leave. Maybe he'll take over from Eriksson...

I think this is disgraceful. All managers have to do nowadays is lose one of two games and they're under pressure! Gordon Strachan nearly got southampton a champions league place and got manager of the year a few seasons ago, yet a couple of bad games at the beginning of the next season and he's gone! And this season their new manager was sacked after 2 games. 2 GAMES. That is just ridiculous.

Yeah, I reckon they could do with someone new, Bobby is getting on a bit now...

Saying that, getting new managers doesn't always work, Benitez has hardly had the best start to the season with Liverpool...

It was inevitable once they announced he would be leaving this would happen. It meant the primadonnas (Dyer, Bellamy etc) had no reason to respect him (apart from human decency  ). So he lost the dressing room, and that added to the poor start. I hope he gets another job.

Ouroboros Gordon Strachan wasn't sacked, he resigned because he wanted a break from football.

I am dissapointed. Newcastle should have learnt from Manchester Utd and Southampton that announcing a manager is leaving at the end of the season is not a good idea. Teams seem to be preoccupied on the pitch and lose some of their ability. So it isnt any wonder that Newcastles start hasnt been great. But hang on, who announced Robson would be leaving?

The Board

So really its their fault - they need sacking [/rant]

It's a sad day for football, when a manager, who has achieved as much as Sir Bobby has, is treated with such dissrespect both by the board and the players. Kieron Dyer should be ashamed of himself for what he did. If the manager asks you to play in a position that isn't your prefered position, you do it, and perhaps remind him that this isn't where you really want to to play. ESPECIALLY, if with-in 4 days you are happy to play on the left wing for your country.

As Alan Shearer, who is retiring at the end of the season, surely he can't expect to play every game of the season in his final season? Now i'm not saying this was the reason Sir Bobby was sacked, but it seems strange that after he's been left on the bench Sir Bobby was sack, exactly what happened to Ruud Guillet.

And the board? When Bobby Robson took over 5 years ago, Newcastle were a struggling premiership side. Now they are expect to get at least into the Champions League. It's beyond me why they refused to renew his contract to start with.

All i can say is Bobby is a top manager, and i wish him well in the future.

to say the least- when the god known as gullitt left they were bottom of the table--he done a great job and even though it painsme to sayit he made the magpies into a v.good squad
