Graeme Souness has quit as Blackburn manager to take over at Newcastle, BBC Sport can confirm.
Blackburn have revealed he has left the club and that he has agreed terms to succeed Sir Bobby Robson.
Souness will take charge on Monday 13 September, after Newcastle's game against Blackburn on Saturday.
And the manager is....

LOL! Didn't see that coming.
They would have had a better season with Robson in my opinion.

yes, sack the manager of the club who're 17th and replace him with the manager of the club that are 19th. What a smart move by the Newcastle chairman The only difference between the clubs performance is newcastle have a goal difference of -3 and blackburn have -4

Digga, league positions 4 games into a season are hardly reliable as a gauge of the quality of the managers - I'm fairly gutted about Souness going, the only thing that I can see coming good is Blackburn might not have to save a few quid from all the fines we hopefully won't have now. Souness did a lot of good for the club though, and I'm sad to see him go.

apparently he was like 4th or 5th choice to be put in charge... I still think they could have done better, the only good thing I can see is he'll get young whippersnappers like Kieron Dyer into shape (teach them some respect), because he won't take their B/s, I hope he can do more, but he'll have to prove himself to us.

Well, one thing I will say is that Souness is a great motivator. And he did single-handedly turn Rangers around. But that was in 1988 and I don't know how competant he is these days.

From a previous thread:
Souness for Newcastle? Seems a strange one, and it has been put about that it's a poor choice to replace Robson, both in the press and from Toon fans. But the more I think about it the more I think it's a great choice.
1. Ok, he hasn't done that well with Blackburn, but just how well could any manager do with Blackburn? They are a small city, and in Premiership terms, a small club, with a small fanbase. Yes they won the premiership about 10 years ago, but only because they were financed by Jack Walker.
2. the man is a born fighter, winner, and natural leader. He is passion incarnate, and will have the desire and drive to push Newcastle forward.
3. He will take no crap, and he will sort out a few of those Newcastle "chavs" such as Dyer and Bellamy. Can you imagine that little prick Dyer telling Souness that he wasn't going to play unless he was playing in central midfield like he did Robson!? Neither can I, at least not without a huge amount of bloodt lost.
Only time will tell, but I think Newcaslte might be onto a good thing here.

I though Alan Shearer was taking over?!
WTF?!?!
I don't think it's gunna fix Newcastles problems though..I dont rate Souness high enough. I eamn..hasn't he only one 2 or 3 trophies after managing 5 clubs? Tisn't a great record..

well seeing how newcastle have been finishing in the top 4 or 5 in recent seasons it seems to have been the gauge that they sacked robson by...
oh, and didn't blackburn want to sack souness last year but didn't want to pay out for it or something?

Circumstances must be considered though. He led Rangers to three titles having managed to wrestle back control of the League from Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen side. Souness also was the first person to really attract bigger names, such as Terry Butcher to Scotland.
He could also inspire Alan Shearer to become more passionately aggressive as a person...at the moment Shearer's too weak for management.

Newcastle Rangers? :/
I was sure Souness would go back to Rangers anyway (is Mcleish still there?) :\
Ahwell, quite a bad move, I'd say.

Very funny. ¬_¬
I think you'll find Souness will never return to Rangers. The fans would hate Murray for it.

I though Alan Shearer was taking over?!
Why would he? I don't think he'd be able to manage Newcastle, let alone any club. Don't think he'd be brilliant, in my opinion.

Alan Shearer made it clear that he wanted to see this last season out only as a player, and then move onto getting his badges and following a career in coaching. And as for Souness, I really think he might do well at Newcaslte. He'll sort out the trouble makers like Bellamy and Dyer, and take no nonsense from anyone. And if there are players there that are just coasting, then they won't be staying around for long!
