View Full Version : Weebl map possibility matrices yes

Well, I'm starting to get to grips with Hammer and making CS maps.
I did my first real one last night (not counting all the pointless single-room learning ones I made which taught me how to make stuff like walls, doors and ladders etc) and, of course, it sucks compared to the average map which gets released.
But it works. And actually I think it would be a fun map to play. It's loosely based on Deagle1 (if you've played it) but I went nuts with cover and breakable stuff, it's quite amusing. There's a main area where a firefight is likely to take place between the two teams. There's loads of cover to hide behind, but it's all split up into chunks which are breakable (but reasonably tough) - so it looks pretty cool with a big firefight going on and chunks flying off the walls people are hiding behind.
Anyway, I'm waffling. If anyone wants a copy of this map I made yesterday, PM me.
So now what I think is needed is an (un)official Weebl map to be played on the clan server.
So, I'm thinking a purple level, mmm?
I need ideas for layout. And what else to put in except, um, purple......
Also need some artists!
Volunteers pleeeeeease!

the only trouble i had making breakable walls for cover is that when people don't shoot them in the right order you end up with floating chunks
so to combat this i used loads of multimanagers to trigger bits
eg is somne shot out the bottom chunk the mm would trigger all the ones above it to break, makes for some good "chunk effects"

Yeah thats the only problem I had with it too -- I haven't got to grips with multimanagers yet, so if you would like to relay any useful info on how to use them properly it would be much appreciated!

A level made purely of purple would probably make people want to gash their eyes out. It would be good to use normal wall textures while using purple accents and w&b related themes.

Well I wasn't exactly thinking of an entirely purple level  Maybe just a room where Weebl can be found. If I end up doing it, I may have to ask Weebl for permission to use some sound clips, for example so that if a player walks up to Weebl he might say "Pie!"
hehehe
/edit or I could have Weebl watching over the bombsite and throw abuse at the T's when they plant the bomb :p

maybe a giant weebl statue?
The eyes could be bomb sites, and ladders could be around the mouth for a second level
parasites could be inside the mouth, which is flat, proving as good cover from shootas.

I'm working on the basic layout, I did a lot last night but as I'm still a mapping n00b I'm not progressing at lightning speed. I do have a bit done though. Tonight, if everything goes to plan, I should have the basics of the map which will then require Weebl-fying!

hmm, this sounds a good idea.
Maybe you could try to introduce elements from some of the episodes. Like bobs car or some cheese. (not good examples, but you get the picture)
Oh and I may be able to help with the graphics side, but im not very good. You could try going to the art forum and asking for assissance.

Well, my level is coming on ok, I've got some nice lighting in there now, and for my first real mapping attempt I'm extremely pleased with it.
However it frustrated the hell out of me last night, when I accidentally moved a wall 1 unit sideways (which is very hard to spot when you don't know you've done it, but can totally fook up the level) and it took me almost all bloody night to find it and put it right. I was on the verge of giving up at one point -- but I have overcome!
I'll need someone to make a weebl WAD file for half life. Or at the very least, make some nice weebl-textures and send them to me, I can make the WADS myself (if I have to)

OK so here are some early shots of my level.
The first is in the creepy dark basement, where the Terrorists begin. The view is looking up into the room you will see in the second two pictures.
Click Me to See! (http://www.atpn17.dsl.pipex.com/h1.jpg)
And these other two pictures are parts of the large room above, which may or may not look anything like this when I'm finished.
Engage Left Mouse Button (http://www.atpn17.dsl.pipex.com/h2.jpg)
And Again (http://www.atpn17.dsl.pipex.com/h3.jpg)
The green lighting isn't constant -- it pulsates from the large object you can see on the right hand side of the third picture, and looks much cooler. However the source object itself, is not finished yet, it's going to be some worryingly leaking nuclear thing, but I'm a noob and I need to learn how to do it......
The place may look totally different by next week, but I hope you like the pics hehe

The Pietanic ship from Bobs week in France could be a good setting. Especially if it was done in a proper cartoony way. Great images BTW, keep trying and when its completley finished I'd love to have a try! :)

Well, here are some more work-in-progress shots for you.
They are of a whole new area of the map, which is intended to be one of the bombsites.

Hope you like 'em :)
/EDIT
These pics are now waaay out of date. I sat up most of last night working on this, and lots has changed (for the better I think) -- I'll post up some new screenshots when I get home from work tonight.

Well, i think by any map making standards (as long as there are no major bugs, the kind you don't find unless you play the level) that map looks to be shaping up well. Keep it up mate, I look forward to being able to play on that ;P

I've been burning the midnight oil for the last few days.
And it's now almost finished!
All that's left to do now is a bit of tweaking, and there are a couple of
areas where I need to add some detail.
So, another day or two (depending on how much I drink) and it will be finished.
It's so much better now than on those screenshots above, hehehe. And bigger.
There are quite a few amusing little features I've stuck in too.
When the map is complete I'll post it here for you all to download.
I expect you all to play it with me at least once ;)
/EDIT 14/09
The links in this thread posted by me will no longer work, because the map has reached beta test level and you should now go here:
http://www.weebls-stuff.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21102
to view the latest shots and download the map. :D
