Basically, what I have in this thread is where we all small group of NFL fans can finally discuss without cluttering up the Sports/Bets section. As you can see, the majority of the Sports/Bets is all footy, so I thought it would be good if I combined all of the American Football threads in one.

DEBATE TOPIC:

After today's performance of the Redskins, many people say that because of Gibbsa and the new people that they have gotten, the Redskins will be able to make it to the playoffs this year.

Of course, others say that it is too early to decide and that we should hold out to see their next performance.

And them cowboy fans say that Skins will suck this year. Their defeat over Tampa was only because they suck harder :p

What do you think?

I think that we need to wait and see. One week cannot prove whether a team can kick it or not. Personally, I've always found the 'Skins overrated, no matter WHO their coach was. Remember the Steve Spurrier experiment? I think that the Cowboys need to get a decent secondary. They got pounded. Although, I don't really mind since those jackasses stole Eddie George from my Titans. I shouldn't complain, though. Chris Brown is a more than adequate replacement. I also think that the Titans are one of the more underrated teams in the league, being purely unbiased though. They have who SHOULD have been the LONE MVP last year, Steve McNair as QB, plus a strong team overall. Proof of how underrated they are comes with the analysis of the game on Saturday. People have not said the Titans won...they've said the Dolphins lost. No respect for them. None. Granted, the Dolphins are horrid, but even crappy teams can win if the other team plays worse. Am I right or am I right?

Yes I do. It was horrid.

So what the crap is Spurrier even doing anymore? Is he retired from football or what?

gxfu
13-09-2004, 12:04 AM
he's probably too shamed to even show his face outdoors. "Hey, look it's Spurrier! The dude that ruined the skins!"

I think hes gonna go back to college after the shame goes over.

And about the Titans.. they are underrated, but look who they're competing against in the AFC. Bengals, Cleveland... *yawn*

PieKaos

Patriots, Colts, Jets, Broncos, Chiefs...it's not THAT easy. Heh.

NO THEY DON'T, TAKE THAT BACK!!

The only reason they lost was because of Portis' long run. If they tackled him, they would've won 10-9. And about Spurrier, I hope he comes back to UF and resurrect the Gators.

Anyway I thought this week was pretty uneventful except Thursday's Colts/Patriots game. There weren't any big upsets or anything (except the Bucs/Skins game). This was also the unluckiest week in football for me. I have Curtis Martin on my fantasy team, and I decided to bench him in favor of Kevin Jones. Then he goes and get 196 yards and 2 TD's, and Jones gets diddly-crap. Don't worry, I'm still winning my fantasy game 73-54.

Yeah, so did anyone see that hit on Quentin Griffin right at the beginning of the Chiefs/Broncos game? Holy ouch. That's possibly the most painful hit I've seen in a long time. And pray for William Bartee. He left with his head in pretty bad shape. Let's hope he's alright.

SUNDAY NIGHT GAME RECAP:
Broncos have a win over Kansas City, 24-34. Quentin Griffin had an exceptional performance, rushing for 156 yards and scoring 3 touchdowns.

The trade between Champ Bailey and Clinton Portis between the Redskins and the Broncos did not seem that off balance anymore. Bailey had a tip and an interception and even lined up for a couple of offensive plays, one of which he caught the ball for a gain of eleven yards. Also, the addition of John Lynch definitely attributed to this vicotry.

--------------------------------------

And now for the Monday Night game, who do you think will win, Panthers or Packers? Give your predictions.

Monday Night Prediction

Although the Packers are plagued with injuries, with Ahman Green (knee), Donald Driver (Ankle), and Michael Hawthorne (Back) probable for appearance, I think they will take this game. Although Mike McKenzie is being tabbed because he is acting like a spoiled bitch, Michael Hawthorne won't be bad. After all, there's also the home field advantage thing you have to consider. Think about it.

Monday Night. Opening Week. Home Field. Green Bay. A bit of a nightmare.

CAR 10 - 24 GB

Addition: PieKaos, if you want to run part of this thing, I'd be more than happy to add more than a foot of power to you :p

I'd love to help run part of it actually. But now to the topic at hand.

I think that Panthers are once again underrated in this one. Did everyone forget that they made the Super Bowl last year? They're not as bad as they used to be, that's for sure. I'd say this is going to be a close one but in the interest of debating it, plus a creepy little theory I have about records, I'm going with a long bomb by Delhomme in the last 30 seconds for the win.

Panthers 31- Packers 24

Woo yay. I have staff.

I'm sorry, but I made the mistake of writing that Carolina was AT green bay. Green Bay is playing at CAROLINA.

I take back my prediction then.

Even though GB's my favorite team :(

PieKaos
13-09-2004, 09:28 PM
I actually like the Panthers. Nobody ever gives them credit for making the Bowl last year, even though they kept up with the Pats. However, I don't see them in there this year, realistically. Seattle and Philadelphia are the best of the NFC. And in the AFC, if the Pats keep playing like they did against Indy, I can honestly say that the Titans have a shot at the Bowl. But that's just my opinion.

gxfu

MONDAY NIGHT RESULT

Green Bay contained Carolina, resulting in a win 24-14. Although Delhomme passed for 285 yards, the Packers were still able to contain them in by blitzing very frequently. Carolina's offensive line seemed battered and useless. Steve Smith also broke his leg during the game, which can't be good.

Well it seems my prediction wasn't too bad :p

PieKaos
14-09-2004, 11:35 AM
Looks like it. However, you have to take in context the entent of Steve Smith's injury. He's a pretty big factor for the Panthers, who are now the sixth straight team to lose a Super Bowl and their season opener of the next season.

gxfu
20-09-2004, 11:29 AM
I didn't forget you all.. update coming up.

gxfu
22-09-2004, 07:01 PM
Alrighty then.

Now that I've finally gotten my ass off the sticky couch here is the debate topic:

Since New Orleans has an injury to Deuce McCallister, they're star running back, they have to now rely more on their air game. A big crippiling hit comes, due to the fact that they now have no rusher that can grind out in the middle. He will be gone for probably 5 games.

Can the Saints do it? Can they win games without McCallister?

PieKaos
22-09-2004, 09:58 PM
Doubtful. Very doubtful. Unless Aaron Brooks and Dante Stallworth and Joe Horn can crank it like a mechanic every game, they have no shot at winning.

Is anybody watching the Colts/Packers game? That first quarter was sweet.

gxfu
27-09-2004, 11:21 AM
I was.

The pack got shot down because of that strip though :(

Though I thought the Pack had more of a better overall balanced game than Indy.

Giants are 3-1 this year looks like they have a shot to win the Division or Conference.

About the giants, I'm surprised that they've even gotten this far :p

YAY! The Bucs finally won. Griese looked nothing like he did in the preseason, he was a thousand times better. However I think Simms is still gonna be our guy when his arm heals.

PieKaos
11-10-2004, 12:13 AM
Screw the Patriots. Screw 'em. Good job with destroying history. I hope Tom Brady breaks an arm. Him and Peyton Manning. I hate them both so much...

Plus, I despise overtime games. I hate them. Especially when the team that wins was down the entire game. They didn't earn a win. They lucked out. Argh.

TaterSalad

OH CRAP!!!

The Packers lost to the Titans, in Lambeau Field no less. Not only did they loose, the got destroyed, 48-27. WOW!

gxfu

The pack really is screwed.

Unless they can renew their defense, it's bye bye for them.

Woo Titans! Sorry it was against the Pack, but we NEEDED that win.

gxfu
18-10-2004, 11:56 AM
Well, we needed that win against the Lions too :p

Minnesota just beat NO by one touchdown. I was hoping the Vikings would lose :(

Jerry Rice got traded to the Seahawks for a conditional 7th round pick. That's gotta suck for him.

How 'bout them Bucs beating the Chiefs? Who would've thought that Michael Pittman would do so much better than Preist Holmes?

I think the biggest surprise was Pittsburg. Ben Rothelisburger is one of the best rookies I've seen over the years.

I know. If he had started every game this season, he'd probably go to the Pro Bowl. He's a shoe-in for next year, I think.

Hats off to the Bus, the architecht (mis-spelling) of the Steelers last win. His rushing ability has got to mkae him a shoe-in for the Hall of Fame. Doesn't he have the 7th highest rushing yards total in NFL history?

So the FCC has their panties in a bunch....again....over the promo for Monday Night Football. You know the one with Terrell Owens and the whore from Desparate Housewives. According to Tony Dungy, it's "racially offensive". Of course it is...anyone else see it? I thought it was funny. Not that racism is funny...but it wasn't racist. Just funny in general.

you know that the referee's throw flags onto the pitch when there's a foul? is it actually a flag? because i was thinking, do you have nerfs in america? they're like american footbal shaped throwing things with a tail. maybe the flags could be replaced with these modified so they had a flag on the tail. any thoughts?

That's the way the cookie crumbles mate.

Though I think Green Bay doesn't have a chance to be in the lead of the division next week. Minnesota plays the Bears, yet Green Bay has to play Philly.
