It'd be nice to see them win it this year.

I would assume you're a Red Sox fan?
I don't think it's a wise thing to say that 'The Red Sox will win it all this year' simply because they will always be in a very difficult position with the Yankees there. One of the most amusing things I ever heard was a Red Sox fan and a Yankees fan on the New York subway after the Yankees had just lost to the Texas Rangers, thanks to a mistake by Mariano Rivera (which, funnily enough, is just how the Red Sox beat the Yankees the other night).
Yes, Boston beat the Yankees, but New York are still top of the Eastern American League, and unlikely to give that up without a fight.
Don't count your chickens before they've hatched.
(I miss the days when the Mets were good :()

I don't think the Red Sox have a chance at the A.L. title but they probably will win the Wild Card spot.

It is because i beat them.

They were playing game 2 of the final series last night. I don't know how it turned out, so I'm gonna go and find out. right now.
*edit*Alright last night the Yankee bullpen blew it in the 8th, however they won the day before that, meaning the series is even at 1. Today the Yankees and Red Sox will face off for the last time this season. Currently the Yanks are 4.5 games ahead and they have 7 games to play. The Sox have 8 left. Even if they win tonight, they'll have to win pretty much every game and even then the Yankees have the wild card spot. Barring disaster the Red Sox have the wild card spot, so seeing as they have the two best records in the league by far, we should be seeing these two face off in the ALCS.

Yes I know I'm double posting, however nobody posts in this section and my post here was 2 weeks ago, so I think this is better than a whole new thread.
The Division series have ended, and it's down to 4 teams. Over in the national league Houstan has just won the right to face St. Louis (I'm pulling for St. Louis) and in the American league the highly touted Boston-New York series has begun. It is currently the bottom of the 6th in game one and the Yankees are ahead 6-0, with Mussina pitching a perfect game. I doubt it will hold, however he's got control over the Boston lineup, and barring a bullpen disaster the Yankees should take game 1 easily.
What are your thoughts on the upcoming championship series? I know there are few forumites who like baseball, but hopefully we can get a real discussion going.

My predictions:
ALCS and NLCS
Red Sox in 6
Astros in 5
World Series
Red Sox in 7
This is basically what I want to happen instead of what I think will happen. I really think the Cardinals will win the NLCS but lose in World Series to the Red Sox. It's time to break the curse.
Need pie NOW!

Ummm..... yeah, It's called baseball
I'ts currently game 2 and the yankees are up 3-0 in the 8th inning with a 1-0 lead in the series, so Red Sox in 6 is looking less and less probable.

I don't think that Boston can catch the Yankees. They are up 2 games to 0.
renatzu
19-10-2004, 10:17 PM
But they won the next one at Fenway, making it 3-0.
Boston's won the last two (one in 12 innings, one in 14), but the Yankees are back at home now and have two chances to win a game. They can't lose (at least I hope not)

Wow. I didn't know it was possible to fuck up so bad.
At least St. Louis is in the World Series. Boston could definately beat Houstan, but not the Cardinals. They'll be a bigger challange, and if Boston could barely beat New York they don't have a prayer now. The curse stands.
Now answer me this Rogue- are you a real Red Sox fan, or are just pissed because your team never comes close to winning and you take this anger out by rooting against whoever the Yankees are playing?

Well, I don't know about Rogue, but I'm not afraid to admit that I just root against the Yankees. I'm a Devil Rays fan, so you know I have anger.

red sox have just won game 2 6-2.
honestly, normally i don't give a crap about sports (especialy baseball, the official most boring sport in the world), but for some reason, i really want the sox to win.
they've been waiting 86 years or something, i say they should have their title.
also, it was pretty funny going through the beginning of this thread and see everybody bashing them and saying they couldn't beat the yankees :D

Thing is, Boston don't have it won until they win the next two games, as the Yankees proved.
Some comeback that was. I wish I was in America when the Series is on. :(

Ok. I just asked because around here when someone wears a Red Sox hat, the majority of the time they are merely a pissed off Mets Fan.
As for the 3-0 lead the Sox currently have and with it looking as though they will win tonight, it was inevitable. All good things must come to an end, so congratulations to the city of Boston, and I shall take comfort in the phrase which has consoled the Red Sox for 86 years: "Just wait 'til next year". (Yankees-Cubs would be so cool)

I can;t believe they did it! After all this time......all the close calls.
Funny thing is; a few months ago they tore down a house where the bambino lived in massachusetts....saw a news article. I wonder if that had something to do with ending the curse. :)
EDIT
And the guy who made the final pitch was derek lowe and i have his autograph. Funny how rooting for the underdog on an underdog team works out!

Boston is not a bad place. Nice baseball team. :p A little congested though....and the harbor smells bad. But they have a beautiful art museum and nice restaurants.
NYC on the other hand :p
(I went to NYC once in my life and it was so big i found it alarming)

They both as nice as each other, although i havent been to NYC since 9/11 but when i went i was very impressed by it (although i was only 7)
Boston was just a nice place, it wasnt as impressive as New York but it was just as good i saw my first game of baseball there and since then ive been Red sox fan (even though they lost by a fluke homerun)

Boston pwns and I'm glad the Red Sox won...
but world champions? How can the winners of a competition open to only one country be named world champions? It boggles the mind :-S
renatzu
01-11-2004, 03:02 AM
Boston does not pwn. Maybe when they win 26 world series they will, but they won 1, plus a couple before 1918 (1 or 2, can't remember)
That's kind of annoying, how the winner is called the world champion, however it does have some merit. First off, the teams take players from all over the world. Also, if the American / Canadian (there were 2 Canadian teams, but the Expos are moving so now only Toronto is left) champion was pitted against the champion of another country, it would most likely win (mainly because the really good players come here).
Efforts have been made to organize a real world championship, which would most likely include teams from America, Canada, Japan, Cuba, and other Latin American countries.

I meant the city pwns. When I went to American and visited most of new england, Boston was the best (aside from maybe Portland).

Boston does not pwn.
Sorry I didn't see this earlier. Anyways...
I play baseball, and whenever we hear things like this, we start a certain chant. How does it go...
Oh yeah "SCOREBOARD!"
If being down 3-0 to a team with a payroll 60 million greater (I can't remember the exact figure) than yours, and coming back to beat them (finishing them off at their own stadium) isn't pwning, then what is? Face it, the Red Sox were the best this year, because they had something the Yankees didn't: heart. They were a tight bunch who pulled together to kick ass, take names, and hand New York their asses on a silver plate. They yankees were a group of skilled players who weren't unified. Like it or not, you're going to see many a lunar eclipse before a comeback and/or choke this great happens again.
