FC Mersey Unveil Streety
Today FC Mersey finally unveiled their new manager: Streety. FC Mersey ended weeks of specualtion about who would take the job by appearing infront of the media. "I am proud to be the new manager of FC Mersey. They are a club with a brilliant history and an excellent record in the JFL. They have a strong squad of players and only narrowly missed out on the title last season. I feel that I can build on this and bring glory to one of the great English sides." He was chosen above the other candidates for his involvement in other sporting areas. When quizzed as to his first actions as new manager, he replied: "Over the forthcoming weeks I will be assessing the team and seeing where we can improve. I would like to thank JonnyFFmaster for all the work he has done for the club. It is now time for me to take this club a step further. I will take each match as it comes. It is not time to start making big promises but I believe in my ability and we can win the JFL league." The JFL wishes Streety well in his debut season.

JFL Still Needs At Least 3 Managers
The JFL still has three Premier Divison sides going into the pre-season without a manager. Exsitigin managers are being urged to uncover new talent that could fill the positions at Stockport FC and newly promted Edinburgh City and Coventry Forrest.

AngryPaul Expresses JFL Ambition
Today AngryPaul declared his wish to manage a JFL Premier Division team. It was thought he might be hinting at the hot-seat at Edinbrugh City. AngryPaul said: "The JFL is an exciting, upcoming league and I wish to be a part of it. I would like to apply for one fo the vacant jobs, but am concerned about the amount of opposition. I wish to discover how the other managers would feel before applying" The 'opposition' he reffered to was that of the questions being asked about his involvement in the running of the JFL. If the managers do not oppose his move, then it can go ahead, but if they do it wouldnt go any further.

This is a tough choice. Personally I trust you to be fair and not cheat although some may not.

Possible problems:
Transfers - We have to mail you with our bids. If you want the same player you will see how much we have bid and who we are going for.

I know that when you are running competitions and leagues you want to be involved yourself. If you were to win the league/cup there is bound to be talk of you cheating. I once run a prediction league and I won, my friends wouldn't accept it. IMO it's not a problem, we'll just have to see what everyone else thinks.

I am also looking forward to starting my first season in the JFL. I wouldn't have any problem with AngryPaul managing a club, I think it would be great to have the extra competition from one as great as he, though I suppose it would be slightly suspicious if a newly promoted team won the league! :p

I'm sure I speak for us all when I say we trust you and of course,

Bonjour new managers of the JFL.

Just to say that you will have your team-sheets sent to you around Monday or sometime Tuesday. Then you can look on what you have to work with and what areas might need new personel ;)

Also AngryPaul is in talks with both Edinburgh City and Coventry Forrest about becoming gaffer.

AngryPaul Signs Contract With Edinburgh
AngryPaul today finalised the deal with Edinburgh City that see's him become the manager of the newly-promoted side. Edinburgh presented AngryPaul to the media this morning where he was interviewed. "I beleive that this team holds a lot of potential. Having won the League One Championship with such style, we need to go forward and build on this success. We must not look back on that season as a benchmark for us, we need to move foward. I beleive this team will remain in the JFL this season and can challenge for honours." The news will go down with the enthusiastic Edinburgh fans, but he added: "I am a realist. I am not saying I can deliver the title or the JFL Cup, but we will give it our best shot to do as well as we can. I think that this club has the potential to become a title winning force within three years."

Peej Linked To Coventry Forrest
Today stories emerged from several newspapers that JFL new-boys Coventry Forrest were all set to apporach ex-Leeds Wednesday boss Peej over the managers post. However, with him being rejected by Edinburgh City in favour of AngryPaul, it is unknown if he wishes to continue his JFL career. Other possible targets include piemanchris

Dingbat Searching For 'Missing Link'
London North manager Dingbat will delve into the transfer market in the pre-season as he looks for his 'missing link'. He has described defender Giovanni and stiker Marc van Hooven as the main factors to his teams success but mentioned he needed an 'in between man' in the midfield. This has led to the media frantically looking to point the transfer finger at a paticular midfileder, but Dingbat remains tight-lipped.

Brazilian Birra On Way To JFL
Brazillian paper Futbal Delriva has reported that their star centre-back will be on his way to Great Britain and into the JFL action. Which team he was in talks with were not disclosed but Birra himself was quoted through an interpreter said: "I am very excited to be in talks to come to the JFL and one of its biggest clubs. I hope this can be completed very quickly so I can meet my new friends and play with them."

Reading de Wurrgen Bid Rejected
FC Readings bid for Silve de Wurrgen has been rejected for being "slightly less than our [de Wurrgens club's] minimum valuation of the player" It is thought that Reading were trying to cut under the midfielders £9.5m price-tag, but it was today rejected. de Wurrgen is said to be interested in a move to the JFL and is still keen for Reading to up the bid or a new club to enter the frame.

Stockport Offer seaempty Return
Last night JFL Premier Division side Stockport FC confirmed that they have reopened the door on seaempty's history with the club. Having guided them to 5th - one place below European qualification - he decided his time being concentrated on Stockport was not enough: "This is a truly great club with a truly great squad of professionals and supporters, and it is with regret that I am leaving for my own reasons [...] The chairman and I feel this to be the best course of action." However, with a dip in form and failure to find a new manager, seaempty's return to management has alerted Stockport to extend the olive branch.

FC Reading Seal Double Switch
FC Reading today claimed the £13m joint transfer of Belgian midfileder de Wurrgen (£9.5m) and English goalkeeper Westwoode (£3.5m). The de Wurrgen transfer was thrown into doubt a few days ago as the initial bid of £9m was rejected, but yesterday all parties finally agreed and de Wurrgen signed.

FC Reading's transfer targets did not all succumb as a bid English striker Twinning - thought to be the valuation - was rejected this morning. Twinning is eager to move but his club want more than his value.

Streety Completes Debut Transfers
Today new FC Mersey manager Streety started his spending as he captured South African 'keeper Quezaroe and Belgian wing-back Jan Vander. Quezaroe signed for £1.2m yesterday and the £5.5m Vander deal was completed around 10 this morning. Reports are circulating that Streety is looking to sell as well as buy.

FC Mersey And London North Locked In Danoni War
The Italian midfielder Danoni is subject to a bidding war as both Streety and Dingbat are after his services. The player is beleived to have been described as London'ss "missing link" whereas he would link up with Roue for FC Mersey. Neither club is thought to have matched the valution (£12m) of the midfileder yet, who is keen to move to the JFL.

Glasgow And Bristol Both Chase Brazilian Birra
JFL Champions Glasgow United and 3rd Placed FC Bristol are both looking to bolster their defences as they are locked in talks with Brazilian Birra. Both sides have submitted bids - thought to be aroud the valuation of £14m - but neither is leading the other as of yet.

Austrian Lebowitz Eludes Edinburgh
New Edinburgh City boss AngryPaul has begun his bid to keep the Scot's in the JFL at the first attempt as he plunges into the transfer market. His first attempt, however, has been unsuccessful. A bid for Franki Lebowitz has been rejected as it was "below our (Lebowitz's club) valuation of this talented player" AngryPaul is reported to be willing to match that price, but has to consider his attempts to sign "a rock of a defender and a free-scoring stiker" on his tight budget.

London Seal Schartzee Swoop
London North boss Dingbat has started strengthening his side as he looks to assemble an assault on the JFL Title and Europe. Versatile German defender Hanz Schartzee has signed for £3.2m to patch up a London defence ruled by Giovanni. London are supposedly after Dingbat's "missing link" - thought to be Italian Danoni - as well.

Cap'n Zola Starts Clear-Out
As well as pursuing Brazilian Birra, Glasgow United are also having a pre-season clear-out. Defenders Rhyss and Burton, midfielder Carlos and striker Winston have all been placed on the transfer list in an attempt to clear out a growing squad and to bolster the budjet. Carlos is being speculated as the first to go with severl European sides interested.

Madrid And Milan Step Up van de Bruggin/Roque Interest
Despite weeks of silence Spanish giants Madrid are still, supposedly, interested in bringing JFL Golden Boot runner-up to Spain, but without looking in the direction of the winner of the Golden Boot - Roque. Reports from Spanish paper "Futball Mundial" suggest that Madrid will place a bid for one in the next few days. However, that plan could be highjacked by Italian Champions Milan as they are also interested in the scoring abilities of the duo.

JFL Confirm Kick-Off Date
After a meeting the JFL Board have finalised the Season 2 fixtures and which date it shall begin - Wednesday November 3rd 2004. The first day of the season finds Champions Glasgow United facing Stockport FC. New manager Streety faces a home debut as FC Mersey will start with Birmingham South at home. The pick of the Week 1 fixtures is London North's trip to Greenbank Road to face ShortFuse's FC Bristol.

Season 2 will run with 21 weeks of league action and will climax with a Scottish derby as Edinburgh face Glasgow away.

Stockport FC Press Conference
It's a pleasure to be back, and I'm very happy that the board allowed me this opportunity to take Stockport further. Although there were lucrative television offers, and my golfing career was taking off, my heart belongs in coaching, and I'm eager to groom Stockport into a championship side. We have the raw talent, and a great base to work on. I'm going to be bringing in fresh new faces, and I throw down the gauntlet to the other managers. We will be a force to be reckoned with...

Glasgow United Transfer Talks:

The Glasgow United Manager, Cap'n Zola, made a what is now, rare press conference. Though it was very short and the only statement he made was regarding the players he placed on the transfer list: "Rhyss is a fantastic player but I believe it is his time to move on, for he has been here a long time and I believe he can do with a new change in direction. I can't see how staying at Glasgow United could help his career in the long-term so we have both agreed to place him on the transfer list". And that is all we could get out of the reigning champion of the JFL.

Ex-JFL manager tips Mersey for extraordinary season.

Ex-Mersey manager JonnyFFmaster has tipped his old club FC Mersey to go go a long way this season under the helm of new gaff Streety. "Last season, the lads where extreamly unlucky to miss out of the title, and a somewhat premature exit from the cup gave the mid-way part of ouR season a bitter edge, but with the money that new manager Streety has at his disposal, he has a chance to take the team all the way in both domestic and european competitions. We had a few problems at the back, but I don't think the team needs any drastic changes. But with a new face or two at the club along the ambition and drive thats already been shown from the lads and the manager, it could be a season that might just exceed most fans expetations.

I would also like to add that with the rumours linking Roque with a move out of Mersey, I think Streey is being very wise not to cash in on such a huge tallent. I'm compleatly confident that if Mersey are to become the club they can be, Roque will be the major catalyst."

:P I'm like Houllier. I leave the club, but just linger around for a while untill I get thrown out by security.

Franki Lebowitz today became AngryPaul's first signing as Edinburgh City manager. The Austrian defender has signed in a £8.5m deal and looks set to help reinforce Edinbrughs defence for the new season.

AngryPaul has now publicly stated that he is after a "true goal-scorer"

seaempty In Chase For Franz
It has emerged today that seaempty - manager of Stockport FC - is in talks with Pier Franz over a move to the JFL. Seaempty - appointed only yesterday - was mentioned to be eager to boost the squad and push for higher places than the 5th Stockpot finished last season.

London And Mersey Still Locked In Danoni War
As was reported yesterday, FC Mersey and London North are both locked in a bidding war over Italian midfielder Danoni. Both sides had bids around th valuation, but have both now upped their bids, yet still remain neck-and-neck. Danoni was quoted saying: "It is so flattering having two of the best teams in the JFL fight over your services and I am amazingly excited about joining either team."

Birra Bidding Gone Cold
After we yesterday reported, Glasgow United and FC Bristol both offered bids for Brazilian defender Birra. Both teams we thought to have placed around the £14m mark. However, it has yet to be resolved as both teams have yet to add an improvement or backed off. Birra said: "I hope that both the teams are still interested in me, because I am in them and cannot wait to play in the JFL. I just hope that they havent both scared eachother off!"

Mersey Start Tour With Win
La Rochelle 1 - 2 FC Mersey
New FC Mersey manager Streety last night capped his first game in charge with a win in France. Although it was a friendly, Mersey were greeted to huge whistles and boos from the French fans. However it was the Mersey fans that were cheering first as a great through ball from Cebe allowed Roque some space and to lay off for Johnson to lift over the keeper. La Rochelle didn't sit back and equalised just before half time as Soumbe crossed for E'lleta to head powerfully home. After the break the game calmed down and Mersey claimed the game in the 78th minute as Victor played the ball across to King who layed it off to Medri. Medri darted down the wing and crossed for Cardazo. the strikers header was saved, but the ball fell into the path of Roque and he converted.

Streety can take from the game the understanding that Paccarrd and new signing Vander seem to show throughout, and that Roque still looks sharp despite the transfer speculation.

Glasgow Up Birra Bid
Reports have been coming in that Glasgow united have upped their bid for the Brazillian defender Birra in an attempt to snatch him away from bidding-rivals FC Bristol. It is thought that the bid will smash the JFL Transfer record (Marc van Hooven's £11m switch to London North) and Birra will be keen to come and play in the JFL.

AngryPaul Eyes Glasgow Striker
Edinburgh City manager AngryPaul has targetted transfer-listed Glasgow striker Anton Winston. "We can see from his statistics that he is a great player, and as he is transr-listed he is, hopefully, eager to move. I will be talking to Cap'n Zola in the next few days about a possible deal." Winston would provide AngryPaul with the striker he wanted to go with his defender.

Evil Egg Looks To Boost Midfield
Leeds Wednesday manager Evil Egg is looking to bolster his midfiled before the start of the new season - and has started with bids for Portugese anchorman Cervaza and Irish winger Walker-Smith. Reports suggest that both bids for the players have been accepted.

Mersey Cruz Bid Rejected
FC Mersey's bid for the versatile midfielder has been rejected. Aparantly the bid was short fo the valuation for the Portugese playmaker. However, he is keen to move to a top 5 JFL club. "The JFL is something I would like to be a part of. Hopefully FC Mersey - or anyone like Bristol or London - will not be put off by the price and a deal can be done soon."

Danoni Issues "Come And Get Me" Plea
After being involved in the longest running bidding war in the JFL history, Italian midfielder has spoke out asking for one team to take the lead. "I just would like one team to take the upper hand and come and get me. I wouldn't like to have a preference." If both bids are accepted, Danoni will the have to thrash out contract alks and decide which team would suit a move best for him.

Stockport Seal Selevinho Switch - But Fail With Franz
Returning Stockport FC manager seaempty made his first signing today. Brazilian winger Selevinho joins his team in £7million deal. However, seaempty is still after striker Franz after his initial bid was rejected.

Birmingham Brazillian Bid Rejected
Birmingham South manager Shane's initial bid for Brazillian stiker dos Santos has been rejected. The bid was thought to be under the asking price and dos Santos has informed Birmingham that hi club will not accept less than that.

Glasgow Confirm Record-Breaking Birra Transfer
Glasgow United have today confirmed the signing of highly rated Brazillian defender Birra. The transfer free is a new record for the JFL as Cap'n Zola has splashed an amazing £18.5million to bring him to McArthur Park. Birra said of the move: "I am so happy to be here. My aim is to establish myself in the first team and helped Glasgow to win every trophy possible, the JFL Premier Division, the JFL Cup and the Champions Cup. I am so grateful for this opportunity to further my career with such a great team."

AngryPaul today confirmed his second signing since being appointed as Edinburgh City manager. Ex-Glasgow United striker Anton Winston has signed a £5.5million deal. AngryPaul said: "I am so glad tht the transfer was completed so quickly and easily. It is a credit to the enthusiasm of the club that we can attract players of this calibre. Winston was quoted as saying: "The time I spent at Glasgow was great, but it was time to move on. I know some people may view the transfer as joining the enemy, but Glasgow and Edninburgh were very professional about it. I am glad to have joined a club with such ambition."

Stockport Up Franz Interest
Stockport FC have confirmed that they have made an improved offer on £9.5million rated striker Franz. Their first bid was rejected but seaempty has set his sights on securing the Frenchman's services for the November 3rd kick-off.

Birmingham Switch Targets
Birmingham South have changed their transfer targets by pulling out of a deal with dos Santos and chasing Ivor de la Penya instead. Birmingham boss Shane was close to sealing a deal with dos Santos before the move fell through after a dissagreement over the transfer fee. This has caused Shane to look elsewhere.

London CLose In On Danoni
London North have had their £13million bid for Italian midfielder accepted and are now in talks about the players contract. The deal is expected to be annouced as complete tomorrow. Danoni said: "I am so excited that London came though. I am very happy to be joinig the JFL and look forward to suppling the passes for van Hooven to score!"

Reaction To Transfer News
In a recent interview with a local cable sports channel FC Mersey manager Streety has been quoted as saying "We are still in negotiations with Danoni's club over a possible transfer. He hasn't signed for a new club yet and I will try everything in my power to bring him to FC Mersey. He is one of the best midfielders in the world and is very versatile. I will be in contact with Danoni very soon" He was later quoted as saying "Ahhhhhhhhhh bettter get bidding".

I'm very glad to have opened contract talks with Danoni. There is still interest from Mersey I know, but I'm confident that we can have this deal done and dusted by tomorrow morning. Talks are going well and the player is enthusiastic.

FC Mersey Respond With Accepted Danoni Bid
FC Mersey boss Streety has laid a bid on th table that will now force Danoni to choose which of the JFL clubs he would rather join. London North had a bid accepted yesterday and about an hour and a half ago FC Mersey had theres accepted. This comes at the end of a week of specualtion and bidding. Danoni will be given around 2/3 days to decide on his JFL future.

FC Mersey, however, are still after Cruz. The £15million rated midfielder has been subject to some media interest after Streety had a initial bid rejected. Reports suggest that FC Mersey can only buy one of the midfielders and will pull out if Danoni chooses them.

Madrid Offer Glasgow £23.5million For van de Bruggin
As soon as the JFL Cup Final was over speculation about Madrids interest in the Glasgow striker had being circling. Now the speculation has foundations as Madrid have tabled £23.5m for the striker. Glasgow have not been available for comment but JFL News expects a reaction by tomorrow. A Madrid spokesman said: "He [van de Bruggin] is a player we have admired for a long time and the season he had last season shows that he could perform at our level." Speculation had linked FC Mersey striker Roque with interest from Madrid but a "hands off" warning from Streety and this bid seems to have buried that rumour.

Sporting Opporto Admit Leeds' Hill Interest
Portugese EFA Trophy qualifiers Sporting Opporto have admitted that they are interested in Leeds Wednesday's David Hill. The left winger was inspirational for a poorly managed team last season and was picked in JFL's Season 1 Team of the season. Leeds have only recently got a new manager - Evil Egg - but whether he will listen to the potential offers is still to be uncovered. If a bid were to be tabled, its is beleived it would be in the region of £6million.

Milan "After" Giovanni
Italian champions Milan have openly admitted that they are "close to submitting a bid" for London Norths centre-back Giovanni. Milan said: "[i]We have been tracking them [London North] and the players that have most caught our eye are Giovanni and Marc [van Hooven]. Since we have little interest in purchasing a stiker we have listed Giovanni as a target. We will assess the situation and may sumbit a bid in the next few days. Milan reportedly value the player at around £12.5million.

Right. Now for some reason I have had a life and havent been upddating the JFL thread as much as I should have. We have had some transfer activity and FC Mersey have played another freindly. And its there we shall start.

Mersey Hold Valence
Olimpique Vallence 1 - 1 FC Mersey
(Sunday 17th October 2004)
FC Mersey boss Streety can take heart from a strong performance against the French side as the defence clammed up and kept chances to a minimum. The only worry is that fact that it took 20 minutes for that autority to be imposed. Valence were running the game for that period: hitting the post twice and Vandres smashing wide from 20 yards. Vandres was involved for the goal on 13 minutes. The winger dispossessed Johnson in the middle of the park and lofted the ball over the Kopelson, who crossed for Nunnari to head in from 5 yards.

Mersey got their act together defensively after the goal as Vander and charles became constant blockades of the wings. Victor dropped back to a more defnesive midfielder role and King pushed up. It was King who got the equaliser on 67 minutes as a Victor-Johnson exchange released Cebe who dummied in a pass and King placed a looping shot over Valence 'keeper Kolsrud.

Mersey end French Tour On A Whimper
Toulon Soud 0 - 0 FC Mersey
(Wednesday 19th October 2004)
FC Mersey ended their French tour undefeated, but in a dull manner. The atmosphere at the ground was far from buzzing and it seemed to affect both sets of players who both seemed happy to knock the ball about in the middle of the park. The closest anyone came was Roque's 25-yarder being well caught by 'kepper Haas.

Danoni Chooses To Move To London
The weeks of specualtion over the future of Italian midfielder Danoni has finally come to a close. as he signed for London North in a £13million deal. the player had also had great interest from FC Mersey, who will know undoubtedly turn their attentions to Cruz. Danoni said of the move: "I am so glad to have finally secured a move to this great club. They played so well last season, I am sure we can go one or two better this season and win more competitions."

FC Mersey Close In On Cruz
FC Mersey have had a formal bid for Cruz accepted. The news will please Streety after losing out on main targt Danoni. Cruz said: "In a way I am glad that Mersey missed out on Danoni because it takes me a step closer to competeing my JFL dream. I understand that they could only come after me if they missed out on him and in a way I think it has worked out for both of us."

£11million de la Penya Moves To Birmingham
Birmingham South have sealed the £11million transfer of Bolivian striker Ivor de le Penya. After switching targets, Shane had finally got his man.

Stockport Capture Franz
Stockport FC today confimred the siging of French stirker Franz for £12million. After having a initial bid rejected Stockport manager seaempty will be relived to have captured his man.

Leeds Secure Double Swoop
New Leeds manager Evil Egg has got his hands on his first new signins of the season. Midfielders Walker-Smith and Cervaza have joined Leeds in £4.8m adn £7m deals. A Leeds spokesman said: "We are happy for Evil Egg to spend this money. We see it as an invsetment and trust him wholey. These new signgin will hopefully help propel us up the table and into Europe."

£23.5million van de Bruggin Bid "Still On Table"
Speculation continues to grow over the future of Glasgow United striker van de Bruggin as the £23.5m offer from Madrid for his services has to have a response from Cap'n Zola. Zola, who has just signed Brazillian Birra, has neither rejected or accepted the bid, but has not made any response at all.

Milan Place £12million Down For Giovanni
Milan have responded to specualtion by sending in a £12million bid for London North defensive rock Giovanni. Dingbat has recently purchased Danoni for £13million and the cash would enable him to add one more player to his side. However Dingbat described Giovanni, along with van Hooven as the "heart of the team" and Danoni will be the "missing link". Reports are unsure as to whether the boid will be accepted or declined.

Reaction:
First off; I am delighted to confirm that Alessandro Danoni has signed for the club in a £13million deal. He becomes our second signing of the year and is very enthusiastic.

I would also like to say that we have indeed been approached by Milan regarding the possible purchase of Giovanni. However, we have turned down the bid; the player is worth much more than £12million to us and Milan will have to improve their bid if they want us to even consider selling the player. He is a major part of this club.

Finally I would like to warn off any potential bidders for our top striker Marc van Hooven. I have noticed a trend of Madrid's buying as well as the interest of Milan, and if van de Bruggin does not go to Madrid then I have a feeling they will be bidding for Marc. I can say right now that Marc has three years left on his contract with us and he fully intends to see that out. Any bids will be rejected.

I am delighted to unveil Walker-Smith and Cervaza as my first signings. These were the two players on the top of my shortlist, and I am pleased not only to have signed them, but also to have received the full backing of the board, which means a lot to me as a new manager in the JFL. I hope to repay their support with success this season.

*REACTION*
While leaving France for the final friendly against FC Cardiff. French magazine l'equipe caught up with FC Mersey manager Streety. He had this to say.

"I am pleased with the way the lads performed in the recent tour. We were playing three top French sides that have all qualified for European competitions. To come away unbeaten shows strength and great character. The lads have worked hard but it will be training first thing when we get back."

When asked about the recent transfer speculation, he added "The signing of Cruz should be wrapped up in the next day or two. We have been linked with a few midfielders recently but Cruz is our first choice. He can play anywhere in the midfield and has an eye for goal."

Stockport Unveil Franz
Well we got our man. It was a long struggle, but I knew it was only a matter of time. He is perfect for our new regime, and I hope he will be a success at this club. He is not the finished product, by all means, and he can still improve. I hope he will be a great asset to the club for a long time, and I'd like to thank the chairman for having the faith in me to allow me to spend money on these two players.

Mersey Bag Cruz
FC Mersey have signed midfielder Cruz for £14million after days of hard negotiation. After missing out on Danoni, manager Streety moved in on Cruz to better his midfield. An original bid of £13million was rejected, but the second bid of £14million- a full £1million under his valuation - was accepted. Cruz was quoted as saying: "I am so glad to have joined such a stong team. They are ambitious and want to improve on their JFL 2nd place. I am so glad to be working with Streety and will hopefully get a run-out in Wednesday's friendly to get to know my team mates." FC Mersey entertain FC Cardiff on Wednesday.

Glasgow United Press Conference:

In a very short press conference, the Glasgow United manager, Cap`n Zola issued the following statement: "I have spoken to Madrid and I have told them that van de Bruggin will not be going anywhere this season." The refusal of this transfer shows Zola`s confidence in his player and though he seemed in a hurry he left us with this: "With new signing Birra, we pose as an even stronger Glasgow United and after a relaxing summer the squad feel more like a team and we are much more bonded together. I not only hope, but strongly believe Glasgow will have more success this season with more trophies."

*FC MERSEY UNVEIL NEW SIGNING*
FC Mersey have sealed the signing of creative Portugese midfielder Cruz in a £14million deal. At a press conference after the unveiling, FC Mersey manager Streety seemed in a joyous mood and commented on the record breaking signing.

"I am over the moon now we have finally got our man. It has been a busy week of negotiations and I am pleased to welcome Cruz to the club. He speaks very good English and should have no probelms settling in."

He added "Cruz will make his FC Mersey debut against FC Cardiff on wednesday. He is in good shape and will slot into the centre of midfield."

Streety will also start with new goakeeper Quezaroe between the sticks. Regular choice Estubant is given a well earned rest.

Debutant Winston Shows His Worth

Edinburgh City 2- 0 Peterborough Athletic
New signing Anton Winston struck twice on his debut to ensure AngryPaul starts his tenture as manager with a win. Peterborough didn't really offer any resistance in a quiet game. The ex-JFL team did hit the bar through Landsdowne, but it was Winston linking up with Harley on the right that made the game. Harley was the assistant in both Winstons goals.

In the 32nd minute, Harley burst past Otfer and whipped in the ball for Winston to volley home neatly. In the 61st minute Harley's free-kick curled outwards and hit the post, Winston mopped up the rebound for the result.

Madrid See What They Missed

Glasgow United 1 - 0 Madrid
Madrid came to Glasgow to face the player they failed to snap up for £23.5million. Cap'n Zola refused the offer for van de Bruggin - his top scorer - and swiftly arranged a freidnly with them to show them why he was keeping him. And he bdidn't dissapont. Only 3 minutes in and van de Bruggin snuck past Coridon and was only stopped by a fine tackle from Julio. He did however break the deadlock with a fine strike 20 minutes from time. After Koveski was brought down by Coridon, van de Bruggin stepped up and curled a wonderful 25-yard effort past Oyvind.

Madrid left the field knowing they had missed out on a great asset to any team.

North Destorys South In Derby

London North 4 - 0 London South
London North got a fine build up to the new JFL season by winning the first-ever London derby by a very comfortable score. New siging Danoni was quite influential, grabbing an assist and a goal - one in each half - and providing some superb passes in build-up. The atmosphere was unfamiliar to anyone watching the recent friendlies around, but then this was a derby. It took only 6 minutes for the first 'talking to' as Giovanni stamped his impression on the game by clattering into Richards. 4 minutes later and North were in the lead. A great exchange with Danoni set Schultz zooming down the wing. The cross was met by a volley with great power from Valley. The half was the littered with fouls and a few confrontations, most notably Richards pushing Giovanni after another foul on the striker. Both were booked.

In 47th minute Schultz skipped past one challenge and fed Danoni in the centre, the Italian moved forward and - 25 yards out - unleashed a shot which nestled in the botom corner to double North's lead. South crumbled after that and 10 minutes lkater Danoni chipped the ball over the defence and a audicious volley from van Hooven hit the bar and Schultz thumped the follow-up. Fouled once again Richards retaliated and hit Giovanni, the defender styed cool, but was sent-off for the second yellow. Richards was sent-off for the fist that was rasied. Danoni, again, chipped a ball over the defence in the last minute, van Hooven dragged the ball back, faked a pass back to Valley and shot under Davis.

At the final whistle, Richards ran from the tunnel towards Giovanni who was on the pitch and a few North and South players squared off but the referee managed to cool things.

The JFL has banned Richards for 3 matches.

Roque Gets Perfect Warm-Up

FC Mersey 2 - 0 FC Cardiff
In the run-up to JFL Season 2, Roque got back in the socring habit just in time. The game - which had little atmosphere - was over by the 26th minute. by then Roque had scored two and Cardiff had no way back. The first Roque goal came in typical spectacular fashion. New signing Cruz danced past three players and drew in the right-back Jules. As Jules ran out Roque ran into the right-flank. Cruz fed the ball to the right. Roque picked the ball up, chipped it up for himself and smacked a volley into the top-left hand corner. the sconed was less spectacular but a goal nonetheless. Victor picked up the ball and passed to Cruz, who hit a cross-field ball for Cebe. He collected the ball, dashed down the wing and crossed. The cross was met by a Roque volley, was half-saved and crossed the line.

AngryPaul Expresses Excitement

In an interview with World Soccer new Edinbrugh City manager AngryPaul has spoken of his excitment over the new JFL Season 2 kick-off on Wednesday. He said: "As Edinburgh City manager and as a JFL Executive I am looking forward to the new season twice as much.

As a manager I am anticipating the jouney of Edinburgh. I am ambitious that we can avoid a return to League 1. Our first game against Reading should not be used as an indicator for our season. The JFL will most probably deal us a culture shock as it is extremely different to League 1.

As an executive I am excited about the expansion of competitions. We will have, for the first time, JFL teams in Europe, with 5 teams competing in the Champions Cup and EFA Torphy. The ever popular JFL Cup will return also and with the 18 round league the season look as exciting as ever."

JonnyFFmaster Snaps Up del Sanro And McArthur
The number new faces that will be rolled out come tomorrows JFL kick-off has grown today. Two more were added on the eve of the new season as JonnyFFmaster, new mamager of Coventry Forrest, captured star defender del Sanro (£12.5m) and 'keeper McArthur (£1.5m). The chairman said of his new managers spending: "We are glad that Jonny managed to identify the areas in which the squad needed strengthening, and the speed in which he did so. The deals are a great compliment to the club. A multi-million signing a few years ago was unthinkable, but we are financially commited to keeping us where we belong. We think that Jonny has the right frame of mind to do that - and then take us further."

JonnyFFmaster's Coventry ready for new challenges.

"Firstly, I would like to thank the board for allowing me the resources that I needed to get the club to where it should be. I'm very pleased with the speed of the new signings, as I believe it's important that was have our full squad ready for the new season. The lads are very excited about playing in the JFL league and the new challenges it will bring. I fully expect them to rise to the occasion and help to bring the club the sucess it deserves. The squad is at about 80% of what I want it to be. Though I am very happy with the first team, I still believe that we need a little more depth to cope with unforeseen events such as injuries or suspensions.

We are looking forward to tommorows game with Leeds with alot of excitment and confidence. We all know Leeds proud history in JFL and they can easily intimidate opponents, but saying that, I expect nothing less than 100% from the lads and strongly believe we can get the campaign off to a winning start."

JFL Steps Closer To Season 2 Kick-off
With the season kicking-off in less than 2 hours away AngryPaul reflects on the season that set-up the JFL as the premier league on the forum ( )

It all started with the two strikers that lit up the JFL scoring hat-tricks as Glasgow United beat Birmingham South 4-2 and FC Mersy beat Stockport FC 3-2. We are, of course, referring to van de Bruggin and Roque. Both finished the season as their clubs top scorers and Roque grabbed the Golden Boot and Player of the Season. We moved on and soon found that relegation-tipped London North were rising above expectation as they only lost three times in the first eight games. Peterborough Athletic were facing a drop into League 1 as they had recorded only one win, but 7 loses.

Half-way through the league and FC Mersey were on top having remained unbeaten, as had Galsgow United. FC Bristol had been keeping tabs on the front two and were in good form. London North carried on their ever so fine form by rising to 4th - where they would finish. The league carried on until Week 18 and everything was final.

Glasgow United drew with FC Brsitol to beat them to the title and knocked FC Mersey up into 2nd. Edinbrugh City came up as champions. London North only lost twice in the last 9 games and went on the lift the JFL Cup beating FC Reading 2-1. Peterborough Athletic - the ex-champions - dropped down and Wigan City soon followed as they were beaten soundly by Coventry Forrest (3-0) in the play-off.

JonnyFFmaster left FC Mersey and they came close to luring Manager of the Season Dingbat up north, but he resisted. Instead they apointed Streety.

The pre-season brought many transfers and managerial appointments. League 1 Champions Edinburgh Ciyt appointed AngryPaul, Leeds Wednesday snapped up Evil Egg, Stockport FC were reunited with seaempty, Coventry Forrest signed up JonnyFFmaster and everyone is now poised to start.....

I am very pleased to have started the season by grabbing a point against last years cup finalist's. We played well and didn't let our heads drop after we went a goal down. I am proud that we have shown we can match the teams in the JFL and hope to continue this form into our second game away to Birmingham, maybe even grab our first win., and then into our first Scottish derby. Well done to Anton [Winston] as well. He came in from Glasgow after getting little action and settled in straight away and has grabbed the goal. Well done to the team.

A decent performance, we picked up a point against a somewhat unknown quantity in the newly promoted side Coventry. they had us under pressure, especially when the scored the second right on half time. But all credit to my lads, they showed great mental strength to come from behind twice and rescue the point.

There are always questions over newly promoted sides, and whether or not they will be able to take the step up into the JFL, and Coventry showed tonight that they are not a side to be taken lightly, and all credit to JonnyFFMaster, he's already moving them in the right direction and I believe they will have good season.

I'm very pleased with this start to the new season. A point against a tough opponent is always welcome. I can't say i'm not a little gutted that we lost a goal in the closing 10 minutes, but all credit to Leeds, and given the preformance, a draw is a fair result that I would have gladly taken from the start.

I was also very impressed with János' preformance. He showed great composure and got us two vital goals. He really doesn't look fased at all by playing in the premier JFL league.

All in all, we can take many pluses from this game and it will serve as a vital confidence boost that any newly promoted team needs.

Sick as a dog. Or parrot. Or a weird parrot dog hybrid thing. To come here and battle for 90 mins, and hold the champions to a draw is fantastic. But then...to lose it like this is diabolical. You have to blame the ref...he was poor - he got so many little things wrong that led to big things happening. I would like the referee to have a look at his performance and write me a letter but I'm not holding my breath. I can't fault my players - they gave 110% and feel gutted. They are livid with the ref and though I'll probably be fined, I owe it to them to be their voice. It's a bad start to the season, but things can only get better - I can't say that about the ref - he's definitely off my Christmas card list

Good start to the season, beating one of the main contenders in last years' championship race. It surely says that we have a strong chance of wrestling the title off them this year. In response to The JFL, I admit the charge and I will not be seeking a personal hearing. I don't regret my general point that the ref had a very bad game but maybe I could have articulated my feelings in a slightly different way. For that I will accept any punishment coming to me. I will not accept, however, I should be punished for any of my comments to the media which were honestly made. A good preformance by us, but we let our guard down at a crucial moment. We worked so hard to get an equaliser, then we threw it away. But we lost to a good side and we made them work for the win. It was great that Anton [Winston] has carried his goalscoring into another match. However, I am a bit bemused at how we failed to convert the many first-half chances we had. The referee was superb today.I did question a few decisions, but then again, who's always right? Not us that for sure! [Laughs] I think that we are showing, having not lost in our difficult opening games, that we have the ability to stay in this division. EFA Trophy Round 1 Leg 1
(Saturday)

AE Pristina 0 - 1 London North

London North dug deep in the Former Yugoslav Republic to claim the lead going into the second leg. London goalkeeper Mendoza and midfileder Danoni were the stand out players as London looked to break down the stern defence but also saty alert to the counter-attack.

The goal that London so importantly wanted came late in the second half as Danoni lofted a ball forward which was nodded on by Xiemines. The ball slipped past Yagloslov and towards van Hooven, who's shot was clinical. It beat the keeper to the right top-hand corner.

Mendoza rescued a dozing London defence as Miroslav broke through. the keeper stood tall and athletically tipped the shot out for a corner. The 1 goal lead will be god cover for the return leg next weekend.

Athletique Sevilla 2 - 0 FC Bristol

FC Bristol had to face their 3rd game of the season again with no word from manager AngryNinja/ShortFuse. He has not been spotted since the 23rd October. Bristol have had to call emergency meetings as to his future. The game refelcted their lack of guidance as they fell in Seville. Portman gave them a bright start thundering a hot that squeezed past the post in the 5th minute. Sevilla struck soon after that as Luis Sanchez thread the ball past Leosenki for Di San to slot under Freeman. Bristol were kocked back and never recovered. The ball was constantly being thrown back into the Bristol box, but they managed to survive until half-time.

The second-half offered more resiliance from Bristol, however they still went 2-0 down in the 66th minute as Luis Sanchez was left free to advance and whacked in a swerving, dipping effort. Bristol need to work hard in the return leg, hopefully under te guidance of a manager.

Gent 0 - 0 FC Reading

Reading fought hard to head back to England with it all square. The only negative point that dogincognito can find in this game was the lack of an away goal.

Omar came closest to breaking the deadlock as he thundered a de Wurrgen corner against the bar. Gent had a few good spells but nothing to trouble the impressive Westwoode. Reading can take the tie when they play the home leg next weekend.

Champions Cup - Group stage Round 1

Glasgow United 3 - 0 Toulon Soud

Glasgow hads no problem overcoming Toulon on both teams European debut. Goals from van de Bruggin, Sergei and Kappo in the second-half secured the 3 points that puts Glasgow top of the group after Madrid beat Prague 2-0.

Rome 1 - 1 FC Mersey

FC Mersey were robbed of a famous victory at the death as Maria popped up to head in the 94th minute equaliser. Mersey had not dominated the game, but the equaliser was cruel to a team that had offered so much resistance to the usually steam-rollering Romans. Roque grabbed a European debut stunner as he jinked past two rome players and looped the ball over the keeper from 25-yards. Cruz was instrumental in the breakdown of Rome's fluid play as his tracking down was superb.

AngryPaul leads build-up to Scottish derby
Edinburgh City face Glasgow United in the Scottish derby this wednesday after the champions suffered their first loss of the season to Lonodn North last week. AngryPaul has stopped to give his thoughts on the game.

"Personally I think we have come to this game at a great time. We have had two JFL games to get used to the style of the league and are due a win, and Glasgow seem a bit of-sorts at the moment and to have lost so early in the season after going 16 games unbeaten last time will be a big shock. I have a squad capable of upsetting a few title challnegers this season and I think that wednesday will be a great place to start.

Plus Anton Winston will be wanting to get one over his old club. I will be dissapointed if we don't rack up our first win."

When asked about the absence of ShortFuse from FC Bristol he said:

"The JFL are looking into it. ShortFuse did wonders for FC Bristol last season, so they won'tbe taking any rash decisions. However, a team like Bristol cannot keep going with a manager who ins't actually there for much longer.

Hopefully he will return or allow Bristol to move on."

"All apart of his 'masterplan'":

Quote taken from the Glasgow United manager, Cap`n Zola. He insisted that he is neither dis-oriented, nor surprised by the recent results which seem to have given Glasgow near enough the opposite of a glorious start that they enjoyed last season. The manager of the reigning champions talked of "pacing themselves" as, with Europe ahead, this season would be more of a marathon than a sprint. Despite the 'not-so-good' results recently, the Glasgow United fans are still 100% backing their man at the top, Zola. Cap`n Zola left the journalists outside of the dressing room with this quote: "I can promise the fans and board the glory Glasgow can aspire to. This is all just apart of my masterplan. Glasgow without a trophy at the end of this season is simply unimaginable."

He also was adament about congradulating Glasgow's local rivals, Edinburgh City about doing so well in the match. He also said he had the utmost respect for AngryPaul and his effective style of management. Though he also promised that Glasgow would make the next derby a game to remember.

They were given hope in the second-half as Portman nodded in a Warner cross. Portman nearly got the crucial second goal after a solo run was well saved by the impressive Ivanov. The Spanish were effective at killing the game as they realised Bristol were unable to create the opening for the important 2nd goal.

London North 4 - 0 AE Pristina (5-0 agg)
London stormed their way into the 2nd round as they crushed Pristina. van Hooven was the star, bagging a hat-trick, but Danoni was instrumental providing two of those three pivotal passes.

van Hooven got his first as early as the 3rd minute as Danoni knocked it over the top of the defence for the Dutchman to volley home. Danoni provided his second assist as he crossed and van Hooven thundered ome a header. Webster was fed through by Schultz, but was hauled down. van Hooven stepped up and secured the hat-trick. Schultz again fed Webster as the Englishman slid home to finsih the romp.

FC Reading 1 - 0 Gent (1-0 agg)
DC Thompson whipped in the free-kick that sent Reading into the 2nd round. He was also a driving force in the Reading side that battered the Gent goal. the scoreline flattered the Belgians as they passed poorly and could hardly clear their lines. Both Jarrell and del Rosa hit the bar and de Wurrgen hit the post all in the first half. The Reading crowd were growing restless as their team failed to convert any of their chances, but Thompson stppeed up after a foul on de Wurrgen and curled past Lebonzon.

Champions Cup Group Stage Round 2

Group B
Prague 1 - 1 Glasgow United
A late van de Bruggin goal saved Glasgow from a loss in the Czech Republic. Prague had taken a 20th minute lead from a 25-yard Suschitzky strike. Prague did little to double their lead and Glasgow were unlucky not to equalise in the 70th minute as Sergei whipped in a cross and a de Vito header knocked on the post.

Glasgow didn't give up and Prague succumbed as Kosevski knocked a ball over the top and van de Bruggin rounded the keeper to score with the last kick of the game. With Madrid's win Glasgow sit second in Group B.

Toulon Soud 1 - 3 Madrid

Group C
Manheim 0 - 1 Rome

FC Mersey 2 - 0 Faro
Mersey got their Champions Cup journey back on track as they confidently beat Faro. Cardzo knocked a ball over the top for Roque, but his shot was blocked: the ball fell to Cruz, who thundered home. Faro posed little threat to a stubborn Mersey defence and the game was Mersey's. Roque finally got on the scoresheet, after a few near-misses, as he dummied past 2 defenders and hammered past the keeper.

With Rome's win in Germany, Mersey sit second in group C.

Glad to see us go through. I always had faith in my team and once again we have pulled a great result out of the hat, this time in Europe. Next up is a trip to Greece, which is once again a tricky one, and I would've preferred it had we come out of the hat second, but you can't win 'em all and we'll just have to beat them at home first. Very pleased with my players tonight; thank you.

Twinning Bid Accepted
English striker Twinning could be on his way to Reading after dogincognito's bid was accepted this week. The deal has taken longer thatn thought because of the previous negotiations. (;)) Reading bid for Twinning in the break, but only to have it rejected. Twinning needs to agree terms and pass a medical before he can be presented to the media tomorrow.

It's great to get the first European win under our belts. We sit nicely at the top of the group but the hard work isn't over yet. There are tough matches ahead and we need to perform to stand a chance of securing a second round place. I am pleased to see new boy Cruz grab another goal. He has settled into the country and has a great understanding with his teammates.

What can I say about Roque...? He's got the eye of a tiger. Another game... Another goal.

FC Bristol And ShortFuse Part Comapny
ShortFuse and FC Bristol today announced that they have parted comapny. It comes after the manager had failed to attend any of the Bristolians 5 opening games of the season. ShortFuse took Bristol to the brink of the JFL Title, but had to make do with 3rd and a EFA Trophy place. He was quoted as saying: "I think it best if you just let someone else take over my role as coach for Bristol. I am sorry to end on this note, but I feel my attention cannot be divded fairly to the team any more. I am sure that the team can progress without me and that the board will appoint someone who can take them further. I would like to say to the fans that they were great to me and the team and last season almost took us to glory." ShortFuse's last action was an attempt to bring new-Glasgow defender Birra to Bristol.

A spokesman said to the press: "ShortFuse was absent for the entrie season so far and the board found that unacceptable. We called emergency meetings and agreed it could no longer go on. At that time shortFuse appeared and we held talks. We both agreed that ti would be best for us to part company as he wasn't able to manage the team in the way that it deserves. We will now be looking for new applicants." It would seem that managers Dingbat and Streety would be out of the frame.

Reports suggest that players and the board would like FC reading boss dogincognito to be approached, although the names of seaempty and JonnyFFmaster have been printed also.

FC Reading Seal Twinning Deal
After a long hauled out process, FC Reading have signed English striker Twinning for £7million. After an original bid was rejected dogincognito made an apporach for him again. After the talks broke down the previous time, the fresh talks took their time. After finally agreeing a fee, Twinnings medical hit snags as he was injured at the time. After he recovered, he was given the all clear by the Reading staff and signed.

Portman Expresses Concerns Over Future
FC Bristol striker John Portman has expressed his concerns over the future of the club in the wake of the departure of manager ShortFuse. Portman, signed by ShortFuse last season, stressed that "a club like Bristol needs to find a manager quickly" After seeing manager-less sides like Peterborough Athletic and Wigan City drop down to League 1, Portman stated his anxiety that Bristol would fall into the same cycle. "We only just missed out on the title last season, there is no way we deserve to be in the bottom half. We need to be getting organised and aiming for another Euro place."

It was a great performance, and the lads didn't lose their heads at going 1-0 down, and eventually we equalised and almost won it, only to miss a penalty in the last minute. Still Castello can't be too hard on himself for it, he'll save us many more points throughout the season I'm sure.

AngryPaul Praises 'Brave' Edinburgh

Edinburgh boss AngryPaul praised his side after they lost their first game of the season 4-2 to FC Mersey last week.

"We were strong enough to return from 2-0 down, but we are new to this league and battled hard, but Mersey's quality was too much for us. Winston and Baptiste have been inspirational for us as we try to prove that we can survive in the highest division.

Mersey are a quality side, a side I think can go all the way this season, and to hold them for 84 minutes was spectacular. I am very proud. If we can put a performance like that again against London tomorrow, I think we can come away with some points to our name."

FC Bristol revealed JonnyFFmaster as their new manager. At a press conference held at the Greenbank Road stadium cheif executive Richard Kinder said: "It is with great pride and optimism that I confirm that JonnyFFmaster has signed a contract with us. I beleive this appointment shows that, despite our poor form, we are one of the big hitters in the JFL. I have the fuill belief that Jonny can take us back into Europe for next season and get us some silverware."

Some press members raised questions over Jonny's loyalty as he leaves newly-promoted coventry forrest after 30 days and 4 games in charge. However Kinder replied "We know Jonnny will settle here and build a team for years. No disrespect to Coventry, but Jonny was a little over-qualified for the club: Here Jonny can fulfil his potential."

It is always a real downer to lose, but sometimes you can pick out positives from those games. Today we were outclassed and soundly beaten by a team, I think, will be wrestling for the title come the end of the season. Again I cannot fault the work rate the team is putting in. We are still new to the style of play of the league and we are seen as relegation certainties, but we will fight and that 1st win is only round the corner. Winston, Baptiste and Parkes were all on top form today.

Our home match against FC Bristol - which will be JonnyFFmaster's debut - will be crucial to our season. It will show whether we can beat quality teams, and in this league you need to.

S. "I am disappointed by the way we defended tonight. All credit to Stockport, they attacked us from the outset and we just weren't up for it"

CC. So some tough words at half time then?
S. "You could say that. I hope my mum wasn't listening."

CC. The cup draw has been made. Are you happy with the outcome?
S. "It would have been nice to avoid London North but in this game you have to beat the best to win things. It's good to get a home draw and we look forward to teaching them about football."

CC. So you are confident that you go through?
S. "Well we are top of the league... Unbeaten... What more could you ask for?"
CC. "A biscuit?"
S. "That would be nice"

CC. On the subject of biscuits, what's the best for dunking?

Post match comments: Excellent result tonight albeit against a struggling side. We passed them off the park and defended resolutely when it was needed. I hope this win can be a starting point for a good run to push us up amongst the leading teams.
In response to the cup draw; we have an interesting tie away from home. I know the lads really want to go one better than last season in the cup, as we were all bitterly disappointed to lose it at the last hurdle. We have a tough game, but if you want to win things you have to beat the good teams at some time, so we might as well start as we mean to go on.

A disapointing result in all - I feel we dominated the match and deserved more than the draw. We had the lead twice and we should have kept it. I'll be talking to the lads about this in training.

Credit to the opposition - they're not top of the league by luck. It doesn't help matters, however, when I was standing with my players and my assistant and we saw the referee in the dressing room of Mersey.

He was smiling with their players and staff. I do not know what was said, but the referee did not come into our dressing room.

I am also not happy with a lot of decisions by the referee today but I respect the referee because he is the man on the pitch.

And everyone knows Digestives are the best for dunking

After the draw with FC Bristol, Edinburgh City manager AngryPaul took time to chat to JFLtv's Scottish correspondant Scotty McTartan.

SMc: So AP, I can Call you AP can't I?
AP: No.

SMc: So AngryPaul, how have your team been adjusting to the JFL?
AP: Well we have just come through the toughest four games I think we will see this season. The teams we have just played - Glasgow (h), FC Mersey (a), London (a), and Bristol (h) - were the top four teams last season and, except Bristol, are still in europe beating the best teams around. So to have come through that respectably, and with some points, shows we can compete in this league. The lads will be very focussed now on beating the rest to gain our first win. Its not far away.

Smc: You started the season with 3 draws, 3 games unbeaten, how did that make you feel?
AP: We started brightly, I was very proud of the lads to have started without a loss. I think it waws important for the lads not to start on a loss, because it would set us off on the wrong foot, but to be matching these quality teams is a great boost.

Smc: What do you think of your chances of staying up this season? Where do you see yourselves finishing?
AP: Anyone can get sucked into the relegation fight at anytime - just a few loses and your down the wrong end of the table. I think, no, I Know we have the quality running through the team to stear clear of slumping near the bottom two. I'm not going to over shoot things and say "Oh, we can win the league" or "I can guarentee that we will secure a European place", but I know we can avoid relegation and if we do go down, it will be because we have not punch our weight.

SMc: Who do you see as the most powerful teams in the JL? Who can claim the title?
AP: Many teams are very stonrg in this league, but a glance at the league table and you can see who are doing well at this part of the season. Glasgow won the title last season in great form, but they havent started well and we didn't help by snatching a point from them [hehe] Mersey have set the pace, but London arnt far behind. Stockport have done well also. Nobody seems to fancy them and are surprised by them, maybe now they will sit up and take notice. Maybe we will be in one of those answers in around 3 seasons time!

SMc: Biscuit?
AP: Any Foxes Golden Crucnh Creams?

SMc: No. Sorry.
AP: Get out.

REACTION TO COMMENTS IN THE PRESS
This mornings papers were filled with allegations of wrong doing by FC Mersey in their recent JFL league match with FC Stockport.

FC Stockport manager, seaempty was quoted as saying
"when I was standing with my players and my assistant and we saw the referee in the dressing room of Mersey.

He was smiling with their players and staff. I do not know what was said, but the referee did not come into our dressing room."

When questioned about these allegations, FC Mersey manager Streety had this to say.
"What nonsense! At Half Time I spoke to the ref regarding the decision to award a penalty against us. You all saw the ref change his mind after being surrounded by the Stockport players. Then awarding the penalty to be re-taken after it was saved. I was furious and questioned his decisions."

"When we reached the dressing room I offered him a Chocolate Hobnob. He agreed that they are the best biscuits for dunking"

It's great to have finally got a win under our belts, it helps move us back up the table away from the relegation zone, which we were getting dangerously close to. Hopefully now we can build on this and push on up the table a bit.

In the Stockport Evening Echo this evening, Stockport FC manager seaempty took time out of his busy training schedule to calm the air after comments made in the wake of his team's draw with high-flying FC Mersey

For me it is finished. I made a comment after the game and now the next game is my job. I have respect great for the lad Streety, and he is proving to be a class manager. I'm glad he was able to clarify the situation at half time. We obviously have different management styles; he goes for the more hobnobby approach, whereas my digestive method is well documented. But it's refreshing to see this variety in the league.

I look forward to our next encounter, which I'm sure will be a cracker. Obviously not the Jacob's Cream type, as they shouldn't ever be used in dunking. Don't get me started on Foxes Golden Crunch Creams.

Champions Cup Group Stages Round 4
Sunday 12th December 2004

Group B

Prague 1 - 1 Madrid
Prague held group leaders Madrid in the Czech Republic, and maintained thier chase for qualification to the knockout stages. They remain on the same points as Glasgow, but below them on goal difference. Next weeks trip to Glasgow will try to seperate them.

Toulon Soud 0 - 0 Glasgow United
Glasgow missed the chance to pull away from Prague after a poor performance in France. Toulon Soud put in their best game of the tournament as they clamimed their first ever point. Sergei and Kosevski missed glorious chances, drawing outstanding saves from Toulon kepper Antione de Saus. Toulon rarely poured forward to attack but it was their stubborn defending that deserves the applause.

Group C

Manheim 1 - 2 Faro
Faro maintained their bid to qualify from Group C as Manheim crashed out of the competition. With FC Mersey beating Rome, Faro - with 2 games remaining - are able to run in and steal 2nd place from Rome. However, Faro need to beat group leaders FC Mersey and require pointless Manheim to beat Rome in Rome.

FC Mersey 1 - 0 Rome
Mersey hammered their way into the final staright of qualification as they battled well for the win that sets them apart from the rest of the group. FC Mersey and Rome went into the game level on points, with Mersey top on goal difference. The win puts Mersey 3 points ahead of Rome, and 4 points clear of Faro. Mersey only need one point at home to Faro next Sunday to guarentee a knockout spot.

The game was an intense affair with both teams offering little in terms of chances to eachother. Chances were few and far between as the midfield was the key area: Victor and Cruz being the standout players. Cruz was the key to the break through which lead to the goal. The Portugese midfielder chased down Rome defender Walltra and nipped in to zip a ball across the face of the goal. Johnson got the vital touch.

Delighted with the Second half today, very disapointed with the first. We started badly and from there found it hard to gain a foothold in the game, they were all over us.
In the second half we showed great spirit and determination not to let our heads drop. It was pretty even but the longer we went without a goal the more chance their was the players would lose heart. But they didn't which I'm very proud of them for, and we got our just rewards to earn a well deserved point.
It was also good to see the lad Twinning get his first goal on his debut. I know he ws chomping at the bit to show his talent after being only on the bench for his first few games here. I believe he will become an integral part of the team.
We're holding a good position in the league and we've just come away to one of the best sides and got a point, so all the signs for us are good. Our next domestic game is away to FC Mersey after the winter break, which will prove an even sterner test but I think it is one we are up to.

I am absolutley over the moon with the lads. We have finally got the victory I think we have deserved for a while now. We have come through some tough games and fought well against the top four, and still amanged to maintina a respectable mid-table position. We go into the New Year's break just behind Glasgow which I think will please the fans to no end - local bragging rights and all. We face a Leeds Wednesday team with indifferent form, but it is only a matter of time until they start stringing result together, so we won't underestimate them at all.

The game today was a credit to the team as a whole. We played well throughout - although we were lucky not to fall behind as they missed a pen - and kept going until the end and that is what has paid off. Coventry played well and it looked like we were heading to one of the draws we got acustomed to last season but we showed that we have progressed and kept on going until the very end. A we got the rewards.

EFA Trophy Round 2 Leg 1

La Rochelle 1 - 1 FC Reading
FC Reading kept their hopes of qualifying forthe third round of the EFA Trophy by claiming a late away goal in France. D'Jou grabbed the opener for La Rochelle in the opening 20 minutes receiving a back-heeled pass from Haas and placing a shot past Wesstwoode from the edge of the area. Reading fought hard and resistied crumbling under pressure when a deflected Haas shot clipped the bar. Reading managed to claw their way back into the game and a superb pass from de Wurggen played in Jarrell to finish. D'Jou gave Reading a scare 30 seconds later breaking free, but Westwoode made himself large and smothered the Cameroonian's shot.

Reading should be pleased with this result, considering being under presure for so long. they will now look to take the home advantage this Saturday (8th Jan)

London North 3 - 0 AOK Athina
London took control of the tie and virtually secured a third round spot against the weak Greeks. Danoni and van Hooven were the key players in this entertaining game, in which Athina offered little. Danoni showed a great flash of genius as he held off three players with a 360* spin and a nutmeg to cross for Webster, whose header could have been better. Danoni was essential in the build-up for the first goal. After a Athina corner the ball was nocked out to the Italian. He held up as van Hooven and Xiemines raced forward. He played Xiemines down the wing, who cut back for van Hooven to score with ease. The second came from the Italian himself: A beautiful curling 25-yard free-kick just before half-time. van Hooven secured the result that reflected the game best by dribbling through two defenders and chipping Theodopolous late on.

Champions Cup Group Stage Round 5

Group B
Glasgow United 1 - 1 Prague
Prague secured a vital point as Glasgow failed to distance themselves from the Czech team in Group B. van de Bruggin gave Glasgow the lead on the 28th minute as a Sergei chip fell to the Belgian. Prague relentlessly attacked and in the 83rd miute they got thier break. Koncheski crossed and the cross took two deflections - off of Birra and Whyn - as it passed Pierce in goal. Glasgow and Prague went into the game level on points, with Glasgow ahead on goal-difference. The draw in Scotland sees them remain level going into the last game of the group. The result is not good news for Glasgow as they travel to Madrid and Prague go to group whipping-boys Toulon Soud this Sunday (9th Jan). It would seem that 3 points will be the only way that Glasgow will remain in Europe this season.

Madrid 5 - 0 Toulon Soud

Group C
Faro 1 - 1 FC Mersey
Mersey secured their passage to the quarter-finals with a nervey perfroamance in Portugal. An early own-goal by centre-back Curtis set Mersey on their way to a rousing comeback. However, they attacked with caution as they knew a second Faro goal would put them in danger of elimination. they did attack and got the breakthrough in the 76th minute as Cruz crossed, Victor controlled, layed it off to Roque who couldn't miss. The point puts both Rome and FC Mersey inot the next round of the competition with a point to spare.

EFA Trophy Round 2 Leg 2

AOK Athina 0 - 1 London North
London secured their passage to the quarter-finals of the EFA Trophy with a lacklustre performance in Greece. After beating Athena 3-0 in the 1st leg London could afford to take it easy in the 2nd. van Hooven got the goal in the sweltering heat after a great passing move between himself and Xiemines inside the first half-an-hour. AOK showed none of the power that saw them beat Reggio in the previous round, a fall out of the competition soundly beaten. London look on good form going into the last 8.

FC Reading 2 aet 1 La Rochelle
FC Reading survived a scare from their French opponents as La Rochelle took the JFL side to extra-time. After drawing 1-1 in the first leg, dogincognito's side knew they had the advantage. However, they sat back for plenty of the game after they scored early. A de Wurrgen free-kick was blocked and de la Cosa hammered in from 20-yards. La Rochelle didn't see much of the ball until a period of pressure near the end. And it paid off. Haas hit the post and from the rebound D'Jou nodded in a 89th minute leveller to take the tie to extra-time. Twinning sent them through as he latched onto a Rica pass and chipped the keeper, much to Reading's relief.

Group B

Madrid 1 - 0 Glasgow United
Glasgow crashed out of the competition as they lost in Spain to an impressive Madrid side. As Prague won in France Glasgow finish 3rd in Group B and miss out on a quarter-final spot. A Pederro goal 5 minutes into the second-half was enough to kill any ideas Glasgow had held of taking the match. Glasgow needed 3 points, but Madrid were too strong at the back for Glasgow to create any chances in the entire game.

Toulon Soud 0 - 3 Prague

Group C

FC Mersey 0 - 0 Manheim
FC Mersey - already through to the knokc-out stages - came through a limp display with their unbeaten record intact. However, they failure to score and Rome's win had them slip to 2nd in the group and that means they will have to face a group-winner out of Milan, Madrid and Paris CdG instaed of a runner-up side. A plain game only had one highlight when Manheim's Ziegler nutmegged Curtis, but then blasted over.

Rome 4 - 3 Faro

Other Groups....
In Groups A containing Lisbao, Paris CdG, Bayer Dusseldorf and Vigo was a tight affair with a last-minute goal pushing Paris through as group winners and Lisbao as runners-up. Highlight of the games was Paris's record 6-0 win over Vigo. Group D saw a predictable winner, but an interesting fight for the 2nd spot. Milan went through as winners - claiming a maximum 6 wins - and Amsterdam managed to fend off Brussels CF and Moscow. Highlight of the group was the thrilling 4-4 between Amsterdam and Brussels.

I was disapointed at how complacent we became after scoring early. We knocked the ball around well and there was no threat from La Rochelle but the players should've known 1 goal is a very fragile lead, and this was a game we were capable of winning by 2 or 3. But the important thing is we got through.
Some people have suggested we were lucky to avoid the "big teams" Munchen and Turin, but at this stage of a competition there are no easy games, we are facing a very good side.

Glasgow and Bristol were only just squeezed out, Reading are through and Mersey and London have shown great composure. I wouldn't be surprised if one competiton is won by a JFL side."

When asked about his thoughts on the draw he replied: "As dogincognito mentioned earlier today, there are no easy games in Europe. However, I do beleive that some can be harder tasks than others. All three sides have difficult sides, but I would say that Mersey have two great matches to look forward to against Madrid."

"We Will Progress" Spouts Diekette
Madrid manager Claus Diekette is confident that his side can progress against JFL side FC Mersey and into the Semi-Finals of the Champions Cup. Speaking through an interpreter he said: "Although Mersey showed that they can compete in this competion they are novices and we are professionals in this cup and we have the experience to know how to win. We dispatched of Glasgow and will do the same with Mersey. They may be doing well in their own league, but this cup is a league of its own."

When asked what impressed him most about Mersey he simply said: "Roque"

FC Bristol's JonnyFFmaster in double bid.

JonnyFFmaster has decided to get his wallet out to fuel his hopes for a European place for underachieving FC Bristol. Media speculation has emerged regarding bids on towering Brazilian center-back Covihno, and Korian winger Li Chan.

The pair are said to be valued around £8 million each, so JonnyFFmaster will have to dig deep to bring the pair to Greenbank road, but this shouldn't be a problem after JonnyFFmaster was allocated £21 million to bring in new talent.

Fans are hopefull that theese signings will be quick, as the team is in a severe drought of both goals and points.

A disapointing result overall - it was a match we could have, and probably should have won. But insted we let our momentum go, and although we are joint top, we don't have a luxuary of a game in hand. I would give credit to the opponents, but I feel we gave them two points today.

We'll bounce back though, and continue to put pressure on the other teams.

Pleased as always. We fought back well - Danoni was instrumental in the midfield and has certainly proved to be a worthwhile signing, often providing many of the goalscoring opportunities set up for Marc. Also nice to see the captain getting a goal - Giovanni has always been a rock for us at the back, and we were happy with how he played yet again. Overall, though, once again it was a team effort, and every player counts. I was very pleased today. Thank you.

Very pleased with the result. The last 30 minutes where about of a riot, and i'll be the first to admit we where lucky to get a goal so late in the game, but thats how football goes. I'm very happy that we've picked up our first win of the season though, and I believe we can build on it and move forward.

JonnyFFmaster confident of cup progression.

FC Bristol manager JonnyFFmaster has spoken of his confidence that his team can overcome JFL high-flyers FC Reading in their upcoming JFL Cup clash.

"I'm pleased with how the team have improved in recent weeks, and right now, the lads are brimming with confidence. It's a very difficult game for us, but I believe my squad is stong enough to overcome the best JFL has to offer. With the start we made to the season, the very top positions are out of reach, but when it comes to the cup, it's anyones game. We've got alot to prove, and we're confident we can silence our critics by progressing to the third round."

What a pile of pish. I cannot believe that the ref and his linesman would give such a blantant dive, also there was a fiul in the build-up. I know I will get a rap for this but that was the worst refereeing performance I have seen since United-Spurs. The linesman knew he had dived over the leg of my lad Flaurent, but he caved in under the pressure from the crowd. FC Reading's fans won them this game. Our lads didn't deserve to be disgraced like that. I do not blame dogincognito, I do not blame my team, I blame the linesman. Simple as. I don't need this shit when I'm ill.

AngryPaul's Fury At Penalty Decision
Edinburgh City manger AngryPaul was heard to be using abusive language at linesman David Rinkle after he assisted referee Alan Jones in awarding FC Reading their match-winning penalty. A spokesman for the JFL said: "Mr Paul was heard to be using abusive language towards Mr Rinkle. He was questioning the decision to give the penalty, but also his ability to run the line. Mr Paul insulted Mr Rinkle and his position as linesman many times. The JFL will look into his actions and decide how to react."

The JFL have been rumoured to be willing to hand out a three-game touchline ban to AngryPaul and a fine of £7,000.

Jonny Ready To Splash Cash
Newly appointed FC Bristol manager JonnyFFmaster started his bid to keep Bristol from the drop by splashing some of the cash pledged to him. He has cast his eye and bid for two players - Brazillian Covihno and Korian Li Chan. The two players would help open up Bristils attacking options, while also tightening the defence.

Both players agents have confirmed that they have received formal bids from FC Bristol and a decision is expected sometime tomorrow.

Stockport Title Chances Questioned By Ex-Manager
Ex-Stockport FC manager Ranger Davendort has questioned the teams ability to maintain their fine run of form, which has seen them sit level on points at the top of the league. Ranger was quoted as saying: "I am proud that a team I once managed are so far up the league table, but sadly I cannot see it lasting. I think that they are in a fine vein of form at the moment, but they have to hit a bad patch and will soon be in a true postion. They have a good bunch of lads, but they are a team that belongs in the upper-half of the table. They have exceeded expectations, but they won't be near the top come Round 18."

A spokesman for Stockport defended the team by saying: "The team have worked ever so hard this season and have pulled in some great results. The league position - level on points with FC Mersey and London North - is a great tribute to the lads and also seaempty's management of the squad as a whole. They deserve every bit of sucess that comes their way. And we also expect them to be challenging to the very end of the season. Maybe even claiming the title."

None of my players dive because they know if they do they will be dropped and fined, as I don't tolerate cheats in my team. McArthur To Quit After Bust-Up
Coventry Forrest goalkeeper Jolie McArthur, who only signed for the club three and a half months ago, has been placed on the transfer list after a tunnel bust-up with striker János. Tenisions between the two had been running high. Reports from Coventry's training ground suggested that McArthur made very poor challenges on János on several occasions after the Hungarian had humiliated him by rounding him twice earlier in the session.

Coventry manager Peej said after the incident: "McArthur walked up to him and said "You was lucky to get those goals [in the FC Bristol game] you hand-balling peice of sh*t" So there was a big fight and Mcarthur came out with a busted lip. János is limping and will still be fit (hopefuly) for the match next week."

Franz Hits Back At Davenport
Stockport FC striker Franz has hit back at ex-manager Ranger Davenport's suggestions that the Porters stay in joint top will be brief. The Frenchman said that Davnport "knew nothing of the structure and management of the side today" and that "his time at the club hardly qualifies him to criticise our success"

Davenport was in the Stockport hot-seat for two seasons as he notched up a best of 4th in League One and the 3rd Round of the JFL Cup. Franz stated that "Davenport knows nothing of the game today. His ideas and tatics would be outdated and useles for a team of our ability." He added: "seaempty is the best manager I have worked for and it is rather obvious if you look at the way I have settled into the side. We have confidence under him and it is reflected on the pitch. We can stay around the top of the table until the end of the season. We are challengers. Do not dismiss us."

Ranger Davenport was unavailable for comment.

Not an easy draw by any means. However, I have confidence in my players. We can and should win this match if we play to the best of our ability. Shows how much attention you lot pay. This draw was made aaagggeeesss ago! Over a month in fact.

Even worse than that - the games were played on Saturday/Sunday.

Here's what happened......

JFL Cup Round 2 Results

FC Bristol 2 - 2 FC Reading
(Saturday)
FC Bristol held last years finalists well despite a lot of pressure from Reading. Bristol seem to have found their way under JonnyFFmaster and are now resembling something of last seasons side who finished 2nd in the JFL.

The crowd at Greenbank Road had to settle for a 0-0 scoreline at half-time, but soon after the break Portman chipped a fantastic ball over for Richmond to smash home (46'). Reading didn't fall back, they pushed and scored almost straight from the restart. de Wurrgen sprinting down the wing, crossing behind Twinning and placed in the corner by Jarrell (47'). Reading then took the lead as they continued to pressure the Bristol backline. Jarrell held off Warner to feed in de Wurrgen whos sweet nutmeg of Leosenki was topped off by a lovely chip over the rushing Freeman (74'). Bristol didnt fall back and sink like they would have done earlier this season, instead they fought and managed to force a replay when Portman shot through Wong and Omar to be felled by Westwoode. The Irishman collected himself and slotted away the penalty (83').

Coventry Forrest 1 - 2 Glasgow United
(Saturday)
Covetry fought hard against a strong Glasgow side, but a slip late-on by defender Kemény allowed Sergei to fire home for the win. Coventry came into the tie bottom of the JFL facing the Champions of Season 1. However, they made it look a lot different with Samu’Nagy rattling the Glasgow crossbar within 10 minutes. Glasgow did make their class show within the half-hour mark. van de Bruggin skipping past Udwin and Schanker and thundering a 25-yard strike past McArthur (29'). It was hard on Coventry but they railled and fought back well. The Glasgow back four were battered by the Coventry attack and seemed relieved to hear the whistle. Forrest came out with more of the same in mind and got the deserved equaliser 20 minutes after the restart. del Sanro sliding a pass into Demir, whos weighted pass for Samu’Nagy assisted the Nigerian in steering the ball home (74'). Glasgow then realised they needed to step up a gear and bombarded the Forrest goal. Coventry looked like holding out for a replay but Sergei shot past the grounded Kemény to fire in for the win (90')

FC Mersey 1 - 0 London North
(Sunday)
This draw threw the two most impressive JFL sides together for a thrilling match. London and Mersey were amazingly well-matched and many thought tht, after the first half, the game would be taken to a replay. However, Mersey managed to find chink in the London armour as Tvëd became hesitant to challenge after an early booking. Giovanni managed to cover for him for most of the second-half until the 80-minute mark. Cruz ran at Tvëd with pace and finally drew him in. The midfielder nutegged the defender and looked certain to score until Giovanni caught him just short of the area. Cruz then stepped-up and curled in the resulting free-kick (82'). London didnt sit back, they pressured Mersey with Danoni striking the bar from 25-yards. Mersey maaged to hold on to sen out the Cup holders in the first game of their defence.

AFC Veovil 0 - 3 FC Cardiff
(Saturday)
Cardiff again showed the kind of attacking football that made the JFL sit up and tak noticed with an emphatic win over the much-fancied AFC Yeovil. All the action came in a first-half 20 minute session. Yeovil were hit on the counter-attack as Davies jinked past three midfileders and laid off for Ranken to smash home (19'). Davies was again instrumental as he fooled Damiez and crossed for Pappi to nod home (26'). Yeovil had one attack, Imatio forcing a save from Labbec, before Cardiff sealed the game 6 minutes before the half-way point. Davies was instrumental again. His dummy left Damiez in no-mans-land and allowed Pappi a clear shot at goal. The Senegalese strike hit a 20-yard strike to compliment to the move (39'). The second half saw Yeovil try and get back into the match but at 3-0 it was already too late.

Stockport FC 1 - 1 Edinburgh City
(Saturday)
High-flyers Stockport will have to travel to Edinburgh this Wednesday as the newly-promoted side fought well and deserved the replay. Edinbrugh took the lead after catching Stokport sleeping. Baptiste nipped in and played a staight ball past keeper Rose, leaving Winston with a simple tap-in (4'). Stockport were shocked by the early goal and took the rest of the second-half to wake-up. The second-half saw them play the kind of football that sees them challenging for the top-spot. Juan and Garrick exchanged passes before Juan played a chipped ball over the Edinburgh defence for Franz. The Frenchman connected beautifully with the ball on the volley, but the shot cannoned off of the bar. Edinburgh were put under a lot of pressure throughout the rest of the game and Stockport got a much-needed equaliser as Garrick dummied past Benner and crossed. Franz rose, but his header was saved by Jann, however the lose ball was tucked away by van Haven (82').

Leeds Wednesday 2 - 0 Wigan City
(Sunday)
Leeds showed Wigan tht they were not ready for a return to the top-flight in a simple game. Wigan, relegated in the play-off's last season, were never really in the game after Walker-Smiths goal-bound shot was defelcted in by defender Andres early on (5'). Wigan didn't show any fight for the rest of the game and Leeds knew they could play the ball around and calmly grab a second. This came just before the interval as Antonio one-twoed with Junior Victor, rushed past Andres and fed in Castello who made no mistake (41'). The second-half was a dull affair. With Wigan finally well organised, Leeds were restricted to long shots, but Wigan had no attacking options and petered out of th cup.

Birmingham North 1 - 1 London South
(Saturday)
In the first of two Birmingham-London cup games today the two League 1 sides fought out an entertaining draw. London should feel happier, feeling they could take the tie in the replay. They were well matched and a few well-executed set-pieces lightened up the action. Clanwilliam managed grab the lead for Birmingham North just before the break with a spectcular 30-yard drilled shot (31'). Ja was the inspiration for London South in the second-half as he was the start of every attack. The draw was finally settled when the midfielder managed to squeeze past two-Birmingham defenders and whipped in a low shot (73')

London East 0 - 3 Birmingham South
(Sunday)
Birmingham South showed that tey were in the higher league with a simple win in the second Birmingham-London tie of the cup. de la Penya was the star man for the JFL side as London showed little attacking options. de la Penya managed to squeeze infront of a Lucas cross and nod home for the opening (16'). Lucas again linked up well with de la Penya as they one-twoed through the London defence. Lucas drew Walker out off his goal and simply passed to de la Penya to tap home (40'). de la Penya sealed his hat-trick deep into th seoncd-hlf with a great goal. He managed to chip the ball over defender Allainne and thunder the volley in from 25-yards. London offered little and got that from thir supportes as they were booed off the pitch.

Phew, an absolutely classic dramatic cup tie! It was a quality open game of football, end to end for most of the game. It looked like we were going out because FC Bristol made the most of their chances but we pulled back late equalisers- twice! Penalties are a lottery, and we were unlucky going out this way but we know that either team coul've won this game so we aren't too down. Best of luck to FC Bristol with the rest of their cup campaign- they are a good side with a top manager.

A great result, and the boys did well to overcome stubborn opposition. Credit to Edinburgh - they had a game plan, and they stuck to it, but we kept chipping away at them, and eventually we got the goal, and the victory, that we deserved.

It was a good night on the old league reults too - like a buxom woman wearing a shirt that's a size too small, it's very tight at the top, but it makes it an exciting final leg of the league!

It is a real shame that we took it as far as we did only to have it snatched away from us, near-enough at the last-minute. It sucks. However, I am proud of the lads for taking, in my opinion, one of the best JFL sides right to the end, I can't ask for anymore than that. I beleive that had the draw been kinder we could have had a run going, but thats the way of the cup. Maybe next year.

Despite what the league table shows, Glasgow are a top side, and they showed that today. We held them for the first hour, but eventually they broke us down and got a goal. We managed to peg them back, but lost our concentration in that vital period just after we scored and were punished. The lads were riding high on confidence after their easy win in the cup, but this just goes to show the gulf in class between the JFL and the lower leagues.

FC Reading 1 - 1 Sporting Opporto
Reading hopes of a semi-final spot took a blow as they were held by the impressive Portugese outfit. Reading came out with a intent to score early, but the stubborn Opporto defence soon put the dampers on that game plan. Sporting came to Reading with the mindset of stopping Reading getting goals and nabbing one themselves. The opening goal came from the home team. Jarrell held the ball up for Twinning who laid it out wide for de Wurrgen. The Belgian crossed and Lukaess flapped and the ball fell to Rica who made no mistake [42'].

Reading should have made the most of the unselttled Lukaess but the Sporting defence was sharp and alert. It was their concentration that played a key part in their goal. After a good spell of Reading pressure Sporting hit on the counter-attack, Pedro playing through Horia who raced though Korsten and Wong. He rounded Westwoode for the important away goal [66'].

Reading go to Portugal next week needing to score no matter what.

Bremen 2 - 1 London North
London North lost their first European game of the season to an impressive German side, whilst still keeping their own hope of a semi-final place alive. Bremen were by far the stronger team, hitting the post early on. Aldolfey scored the first blow as Kartrite corssed for the Austrian to head home [20']. London did well to hold them for the rest of the first half, but the pressure told after the break as Aldofey again struck. A great individual goal came from him nutmegging Danoni and rounding Xiemines. He then dummied a shot past Tvëd and then unleashing from 20-yrads [50'].

London did well not to collapse entirely and did well to pounce on Bremen as they relaxed. Danoni woke-up from his first-half slumber to play Xiemines down the wing. The Frenchman crossed for van Hooven to nod home for the all important away goal.

London will fell that, as long as they put in the work, they can overturn the deficit to progress.

Champions Cup

Madrid 0 - 0 FC Mersey
Mersey can think themselves proud after a gutsy performance that leaves them with a chance of progression to the semi-finals. Man-of-the-match Paccardd kept the whole Madrid frontline quiet, limiting them to long-shot and only one clear chance at goal. This performance left Mersey with little attacking options as Roque was squeezed out of the game very ealry. The striker only getting 1 shot in the entire game: a 30-yard shot dragged well wide. Madrid did all they could to get the home goal, but were foiled but the excellent performances of Vander, Paccardd and Curtis. Cruz also got back and did his share of the dirty work.

It may have been a draw, but Mersey will take this as a moral victory as they go into the second-leg.

Jonny Signs Pair
After two weeks of hard negotiations FC Bristol have finally completed the signings of Brzillian Covihno and Korean Li Chan. the pair, beleived to have cost a toal of £16.75m, will go staright into the squad for Bristol's home game against Birmingham South.

A spokesman ofr FC Bristol today said: "Jonny spotted that the defence and midfiled needed strengthening and he saw these two fine lads as the perfect solutions. We [the board] were 110% behind his decisions. We would not have hired him if we did not beleive he knew what was best to get us out of themess we are in. We are prpud to welcome both Covihno and Li to our club and we hope, scrap that, know that they will help put us where we belong."

Streety Swaps Strikers
After 27 league games with FC Mersey, Chilean striker Philip Cardazo has been transfered in a swap deal taking George Hammerstein to Merseyside. The strikers, who both played for Leeds Wednesday together, change places in a permanent deal. On arrival Hammerstein said: "It is fantastic for me to have come to a club of this stature. It is a great honour for Streety to have faith in my ability to have exchanged me for such a quiality player. I wish Phil all the best. Having played with him before I know he can go onto great things, but now my mind is set on taking Mersey to the title and even JFL Cup and the Champions Cup. We can win all three."

Post-Match Reaction:
I was pleased with the performance today. Obviously the result was a disappointment somewhat, but we have an away goal and we can take heart from that. Another great team performance, good to see Xiemines and Danoni linking up well again, and as for Marc - i'm actually running out of things to say, and i'm reluctant to heap praise on him in public any more for fear that i will be accused of singling out one player. Nevertheless, very very pleased once again. Thank you.

POST MATCH REACTION
After the draw in Madrid, FC Mersey manager Streety had this to say...
"I thought it was a solid performance tonight, the lads did well, but the job is only half done. My players won't let complaisancy creep in and will be fully focused on the home leg."

When asked about the transfer of George Hammerstein,
"George is a typical English centre forward, strong, determined and a team player. He is not shy in front of goal and is the ideal partner for Roque. It is a great signing for the club."

he later added...
"Philip has had a tough time this season and I felt that we needed to freshen things up. I wish him all the best at his new club and the future."

I'm bitterly disapointed by the result. After our cup win against Edinburgh, i felt we had the quality to beat them in the league.

We were poor in defence and let them have two easy goals. I would praise my team's spirit, having come back from being behind twice in the game, but we really should have one this one.

If we have aspirations of title contention, we really have to beat the lower teams. Edinburgh aren't the greatest team in the league and this is certainly two points dropped.

Very pleased. I think the lads are finally finding their feet in the league. We've got a long way to go before we're the team I want us to be, but you can't help but be optimistic when we are bringing in top results.

Cup reaction

Brilliant result. I'm abit disappointed we let them come back into the game twice, but credit to FC Reading, they did themselves proud. Penaltys are always the cruelest way to end the match, and I must admit, I did think it might not be our day when we failed to bag our final penalty, but we battled on and came out of it with a quaerter final clash with Mersey. I'm pleased with our draw though, because difficult as it is, we'll be treating it like the final, because if we can dispose of Mersey, it'll give the lads a much-needed injection of confidence.

A little disappointed - we did fight back well, but we should never have had anything to fight back from, and Marc was of course disappointed having not scored the penalty. Fortunately he was on good form for the rest of the game, and obviously got our two goals. I am however considering shaking things up for our next match with a view to regaining 1st from FC Mersey.

I am over the moon with the lads effort today. They showed their ability and I thought we were going to be a bit dog-eared today as the two cup games took a lot out of us. Although we managed to hold one of the best teams of Season 2, we still slipped a place as FC Bristol continue to build towards their team of old. We now lie just one place above the relegation play-off and we don't want, ney, deserve that. We have the players and ablility to stay in the league and we will have what it takes come the end of the season.

EFA Trophy Quarter-Finals Leg 2

Sporting Opporto 1 - 0 FC Reading
(Sporting win 2-1 on agg)
FC Reading's europen dreams came grindong to a halt as they lost in a heated game in Portugal. After drawing the first leg 1-1 Sporting were the favourites going itno the return. Reading were up for the occasion, but were pinned back by the ever impressive Sporting midfiled. That midfiled was the stage where Pedro shone. He ran rings round de Wurggen and de la Cosa as he set-up the winning goal just before half-time. The Spaniard nutmegged de Wurggen and then managed to squeeze past de la Cosa before chipping Korsten and striker Dun San finished with aplombed [43']. Sporting sat back for the rest of the game, safe in the knowledge that Reading needed 2 goals to win. 2 goals, which never looked like coming.

FC Reading can take to heart that they got further than many people expected them to - and with a strong finish in the JFL, they can have another go at the EFA trophy next season.

London North 1 - 0 Bremen
(London North win 2-2 on away goals)
London North secured a place in the semi-finals of the EFA trophy with a classy win over German champions Bremen. The Deutchliga leaders were favourites for this tie as they had led 2-1 from the first leg. Danoni was instrumental to the win and stopping the Bremen midfiled attacking. It was the Italians early tackle on Aldofey that set the tone and seemed to put the Austrian in his place for the rest of the game. Danoni then assited in what was the winning goal. He managed to dispossess Aldofey and then create space down the middle for himslef, he then played a sweet through ball for van Hooven. The dutchman made no mistake and chipped Rulan [64']. London then sat back a little after the goal, even though a Bremen goal would have knocked them out,. However, London held on for a well deserved win.

FC Mersey 1 - 0 Madrid
(FC Mersey win 1-0 on agg)
FC Mersey managed to squeeze past Madrid in an amazing finish on Merseyside. As the tie looked like going to extra-time, but an Cruz inspired Mersey side managed to snatch a winner 3 minutes into injury-time. With some jaw-dropping passing, Cruz, Johnson and Victor exchanged balls before a Johnson shot was saved and fell to Roque who hammered home from 8 yards. Madrid and Mersey were both cautious in their play, knowing how a one goal could, and in the end did, make a massive difference.

Mersey were impressive in being able to deal with a talaented Madrid attack adn will now have the beleif that they can reach the final.

After beating Madrid, FC Mersey manager Streety had this to say...
"We were underdogs going into this tie but we have come victorious. We outplayed Madrid all over the park and deserved to win. The fans got behind the team and were the 12th man. They drove us on to vicotory..."

And after the draw...
"We have shown that we cannot be underestimated and my players will not be fazed by being drawn against Amsterdam. We have beaten the favourites and now it's time to finish the job."

After the JFL match with newly promoted Edinburgh City. Streety had this to say...
"We had a hard match against Madrid and my players never looked tired. They are all winners and we deserved to win. Roque got us off to a great start with two in twelve minutes but we had to be strong. Edinburgh are a good team and cannot be taken lightly."
