OK, who like me saw the anchor spreadable and thought what a rip off, rushed up stairs to inform weebl of copyright infringements on t'interweb to find he already made it?

Shame really, I think he'd have made more suing for copyright than actually making it for them.

firstly i havent seen it because of the fucking itv regions and secondly i knew he made it

See the News page on the main site. :p visit it more often... (Also, so many people have this idea that loads of money can be made from going to court. Not if you have to pay solicitors' fees, it can't. Especially not for long complex cases...)

But if he didn't make it, it would mean that it wouldn't have been made at all, so what would he sue about?

freddiestarfish
19-11-2003, 06:25 PM
yes

and he put http://www.sumo-dojo.com/ on the main blog

they are rather funny

he could sue himself, and then make the state pay, as he coundnt afford it.

someone tried that

but failed

I'm hoping to be a solicitor. The loadsamoney thing is undoubtedly what some are aiming at (and let's face it, it'd be better than a kick in't' gob!) but I'm not too bothered about earning shedloads if it means I'm working ungodly hours. I'd be happy with a comfortable wage, and being able to afford to give a decent amount to charity. I'm also interested in working for firms that do some legal aid work (i.e. free legal advice to the public).

Wow, I'm offtopic tonight!

So, yeah, how about those Anchor ads? Not seen them yet.

I hate to say it, but I think this advert nearly ruined weebl&bob, even though weebl made it, it's still a rip-off.

Jeff The Jiff
20-11-2003, 08:40 AM
yes, but joel veitch overused his kittens in every thinkable place, including a Crusha milkshake advert...

i think they're pretty good because the trademark egg shapes and and voices are immediately recognisable to a certain audience (who watch weebl and bob or have caught a glimpse of wobbl on mtv) and make them watch the advert with glee!

Perks
20-11-2003, 11:31 AM
I like adverts. Better than Currys and JML ads, at least.

What do I think about the 'Weebl Has Ruined W&B! Sob!' issue? Hmm. Joel Vietch's kittens are still quite funny. I watched (thank you vcr) Rather Good Videos last nite. It was funny. And had morris dancers in it. And The Coral.

Anyhoo, as long as this is the only commercial venture that Weebl does then he won't ruin it.

*watches sumo ani for several years*

How did Weebl end up making these adverts anyway?

How could it ruin weebl and bob? The luverly Mr Weebl has provided us with many excellent cartoons and this wonderous forum all for free! Why should he not use his skills professionaly?

Weebl i bow to your greatness once again sir

I like the idea of an inside joke, too. But what about the people who paid for the ads? Would they get the joke and leave it in?

My guess is "not"

Damn commercialism, anyway. Screws up our little world all over, eh? First Christmas and now J. Picking. Suppose he has to eat and pay rent like the rest of us, what say?

The preceding and very dull public service announcement was brought to you by:

Curmudgeons? You sound like a Terry Wogan listener... hehe
Funny show but I'm never up early enough to listen to it... but I digress

Why wouldn't they leave an in-joke in? In fact, who in their company would get the in joke? And if they did they'd be weebl and bob fans, and wouldn't they want to keep it in? :D

SemiCircle
27-11-2003, 11:11 PM
they were good, but the jingle at the end is bollocks. it doesn't rhyme or anything. just "mmm, spreadable" would have been infinately better than this "pure and simple" rubbish.

Dr-Electro
29-11-2003, 04:13 AM
You have hit upon two of the hangups of advertising work. If the customer doesn't get the inside joke, they will think it is simply out of place and order the advertising company to remove it. Unless the guy making the adverts has total creative control, inside jokes are just plain out. Of course the possibility of an Easter Egg in the ad exists, but is harder to pull off and may be hard to spot, too.

As for the jingles, they will always have to contain the company's catch phrase, slogan or motto. Doesn't matter if it rhymes or makes sense to anyone outside the corporate boardroom, those bigwigs are footing the bill, so you must do as they say or not get paid.

We all know where the talent comes from, don't we? Let that be our inside joke and the Anchor brasshats will never be the wiser. You go, Weebl!

Explosivo
30-11-2003, 09:40 AM

I love the ads, but don't you keep expecting one of them to say something Weebl?

For example, when Techno Cow ejects and covers the cows in black smoke, I was so expecting one of them to say, "Blimey, how rare!"

The whole Anchor Spreadable series of adverts is pretty damn cool.
When they were first put on TV, I actually watched the ads just so incase the Anchor ones were on.

I bet the big cheeses at Anchor are really pleased they chose Weebl (and his style of cartoon) to make their ads.

Not that they have made me want to buy any Anchor Spreadable myself, ahem :)

Did Anchor contact you?
I seriously think that this could go to a court case, and win.

The Irish Times are using an advert which blatantly rips off a funny flash cartoon posted on newgrounds, where several cut-arts of animals are playing instruments in scenario's such as a basement, garden and snooker table.

Upon opening the lid on a recently purchased tub of anchor spreadable I was greeted by a foil covering with two pictures of our rockin cows on there. It was alledgedly a competition on the theme of spot the difference. One difference, you win.

After a solid thirty minutes of looking, I discovered that the smaller cow was sticking his tongue out at me in one pic but not in the other.

Cheeky cow.

That was for copyright reasons. You wouldn't want Weebl to be sued now, would you?
but changing the whole thing-
The anchor butter advert is not Weebl and Bob, nor is it related to Weebl and Bob. It is a completely different cartoon, it is just in the style of Weebl and Bob.
and for what?- money-shame shame [/B]

Its not weebl and bob, many people won't have a clue who they are and think they are origional ideas.

Just to say there are 2 buses in Coventry with Anchor Spredable adverts on the side (painted on).

One is Weebl cow saying "I LOVE ANCHOR SPREADABLE!"

Too bad I can't get a taste of some of that sweet, sweet British butter. Has Weebl tried pitching the Weebl & Bob Show to the people at Adult Swim? They'd get a kick out of it, as it IS basically AS material! *shakes her head.* I really should stop getting off-topic before I get labelled a fool...

The voices aren't EXACTLY the same as those of Weebl and Bob. They're a little more understandable.
