Having been a Manchester Untied fan sine around 1988, back when the title was a dream and reaching the FA Cup Final would make a season or two, I have seen my fair share of United-Arsenal games.

And there have been some great games and some god awful games. I remember at Old Trafford in 1990 when there was a "22 man brawl" which was more like a 5 man punch-up and 17 other trying to clam it down. The Arse won 1-0, had two points deducted and United had one taken away. And this was before United and Arsenal were such feirce rivals for the title (Arsenal won the league that year - only losing once - and United would finish 6th)

Since then the build-up to a game has been electric. There is such a great atmosphere as people wait for the "two better teams in England" go head-to-head. I can honestly say that it isn't really true now - as Chelski are playing much better than United - but the game is still a special one. People see United as the team that can end Arsenal's 49 game unbeaten run, but it is true that they are in poor form and are nowhere near as strong as teams that won the titLe 3 years (1999, 2000 AND 2001) in a row and hammered Arsenal 6-1 at Old Trafford. I would say - with a sadness - that Arsenal are better placed out of the two to win the game 6-1.

However, all is not lost for United. They have tightened up at the back, which Ferdinada has been a key part of, and I think they will be able to frustrate Henry and co in that area. But again, a down point, is that United have not exactly been firing on all cylinders recently. Tuesday 0-0 draw in Prauge was the first time in 13 years that United hadn't scored in the Europe, and the blank at St Andrews also doesnt help.

With a sigh I can say that I do not see United winning this one and can see a draw at best. But of course, I am United through and through and in fan mode I can see a 2-1 win.

So......

UNITED! *CLAP CLAP CLAP* UNITED! *CLAP CLAP CLAP* UNITED! *CLAP CLAP CLAP* UNITED! *CLAP CLAP

Everyone is saying how Arsenal will win, or Utd will win...but what happens if it's a boring 1-1 draw? (Bar Arsenal having got 50 unbeaten league games on the trot)

I hate them both. I don't care who wins, as long as one of them suffers miserably. Preferably Arsenal.
PS: Come on you spurs:p

I'm in a peculiar position, I find myself supporting Man United (which is painful for a Chelsea fan).

In all honesty, it does seem to be that the Londoners (i.e. us and the arse) are taking over from United, and that their best days are over...

As for the match, I have to agree with Lawro (the legend) that with all the build up the game could be quite dissapointing.

1-1 (Ljungberg/Reyes for the Arse, Smith with a last minute super-strike)

and then when Chelsea win the league, Mr. Abramovich can finally build his volcano hide out in Kensington, and begin world domination, muhahaha....

i want Man Utd to win to make a more interesting title race, but i tihnk it will probably end up a draw =/

I support neither team, but I am going to Uni to watch it on the big screen and get drunk...

I'd rather Arsenal win than Man Utd. Alex Ferguson thinks he can lots of shite players and expects to win just because they are Man Utd, whereas Arsenal wait and buy maybe a couple of excellent players...

I hope it's a good game of free-flowing football. In reality I reckon it will be a messy scrap.

1-0 to Manure. Silly ol' Sol, gave away a penalty. My God, it's nearly over! Oooh this will hurt the Scum more than anything...
edit: WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!
2-0 to Man UTd!!! Take that you Scummers!!!!!

edit 2: Apologies. I over-reacted.

well done Man U. In a way it's a shame Arsenal's run ended at 49 rather than getting to 50. It will be interesting to see how they react to this result.

Personnaly i think aresnal will slump into a losing/drawing run, and man utd will go on a semi-winning run until aston villa derail them and go on to win the premiership.

I'm quite peeved at this result. I was hoping Palace would embarass the champions on Nov 6th but alas it is not to be :(

Still, I'm sure Arsenal can keep their composure and win the league. Certainly don't want Chelsea to win it after the way they treated Ranieri last season and most definately don't want Man Ure to win it either.

I'm sure the Southampton game will be very interesting next week. Can see quite a few going in there.

heh, maybe a repeat of last time Arsenal lost, came out and beat Southampton 6-1 or something. That would be lovely (and is very possible).

(Palace, lol :p)

3 CHEERS FOR MIKE RILEY!
Why o'why is he in charge of the big games? He has given Manure 8 penalties in 8 games.
I wanted Arsenal to win as they play the best football in the league and deserve to go unbeaten. They outplayed Manure for a lot of the game until the shocking decision to award the scum a penalty. It wasn't just this decision that was disappointing. He didn't control the game and there were incidents that went unpunished. He was like crap pancake mix......no consistancy.

I hope that the result goes to Manure's heads and they are rewarded with results that they deserve. 2-0 flattered them no end. I can still see us finishing above them and Arsenal winning the league.

If you want to ask Mike Riley a quation then you can via the official premier league site.

ASK THE REF (http://www.premierleague.com/fapl.rac?command=forwardOnly&nextPage=askTheRef)

I wonder what sort of questions he'll be getting

the penalty wasn't a penalty but Ashley Cole's tackle on Cristiano Ronaldo was a penalty :/

Leonidas
24-10-2004, 06:48 PM
But then, he didn't give Man Utd a penalty for the obvious one with Ronaldo. From first impressions the Rooney incident did look like a penalty. It was only with a replay from a different angle that we were able to see it was a blatant dive. But then it's hard to feel sorry for Arsenal. They wouldn't have had even 49 games unbeaten if Pires hadn't dived to win a penalty against Portsmouth last season, thereby securing a point.

He wouldn't have been that position if the game was still at 0-0.
Arsenal wouldn't have been chasing the game and been caught on the break.

Rio should have gone too :p

I think the win today - by the way United won 2-0 ;) - was overdue. Arsenal had many times where they should have been beaten and had gotten the 'rub of the green' so to speak and hadn't lost. Even though most people seem to think that it was unfair for it to happpen to them like that, think of what happened to Fulham - played The Arse off the pitch and then had a penalty reversed and then were unlucky to lose 3-0. Then there was the Pompey game, Ruud's last minute pen miss, etc..... Basically it is just luck catching up with them.

Although the great football they played wasn't just luck ;)

2-0!! - I personally enjoyed that Rooney again scored against The Arse, ended their run, got his first Premiership United goal, and all for his 19th birthday!

Good lad.

Palace gunna get thumped.

I think Man United have had there fair share of luck too.
Luck that Rio stayed on the pitch
Luck that Van Horsehead wasn't sent off too for his cynical challenge on Cole
Luck that Mike Riley was in charge again of a United match

Have a word :/

Cap'n Zola

van Horsehead? :p

I just call him the albatross...

Tommuz
25-10-2004, 12:27 PM
With some of the comments made by Fergie and United Fans, I can't help but feel that there is a strong case of the pot calling the kettle black. If the roles were reversed, United would be complaining in exactly the same way the Arse are. That's football though.

And we'll see what happens at Selhurst in a couple of weeks. I don't think we're gonna get thumped as badly as people are predicting. I think we're gonna lose but I don't think we're gonna let in 6 or 7 goals. Of course, giving that we're playing Birmingham next week, I can't see Hughes being around for the Arsenal game which may be a problem...

1) What the hell has that got to do with this topic?
and
2) I told you to make your sig smaller. You've just made it bigger. It's way too bloody big.

The group is..but that doesn't mean every thread contains something about betting.

Bettins gone out now that the rupie system has gone..which was a currency the board used a while ago, but it ended up being taken off because people kept raping it.

Pilk, have you been posting in the beginners forum yet?

i dont mean to sound rude but i would get to grips with posting in there before making two word posts like that which are worth nothing to the overal contribution of the forum.

There are many tips and tricks hidden in the FAQs and experienced users posts like PMC's and JonnyFFmaster's.
