Scotland manager Berti Vogts has resigned from the Scotland job ending weeks of speculation.Well it was inevitable. The major factor in this decision has been the disgraceful abuse that I have suffered.

It has degenerated into a physical nature, especially on recent occasions where I have been spat uponAs an Englishman I see this as a step in the right direction as he has never - in my opinion - done a very good job at all.

Would I be right in saying that the highlight of his reign was Scotland 1-0 Holland?

And the low point about a week later? Or did that come in the qualifiers or against Hungary?

Who do you think should succeed?
Former Everton and Rangers boss Walter Smith is the favourite to replace Vogts, although it is believed he has not yet been officially contacted by the SFA.

The name of Gordon Strachan, who quit as Southampton manager in February 2004, is also in the frame.

I point at Walter Smith or David Moyes.

Smith, because he has been thorwn around as potential by the media.

I pick Moyes cos he seems like the most successful Scot to come to mind.

Any thoughts?

[edit] Oh, and I don't agree with the spitting thing.

It was inevitable. He's never done a good job with Scotland despite not having the best players (and his best young players aren't even playing regularly for their clubs...).

I don't think Moyes would leave Everton (as he said last night on MOTD2 :p), i think Strachan is the obvious choice. Walter Smith would be ok but nothing special imo, and apart from that i can't really think of any available Scottish managers who don't suck.

Walter Smith was a good manager :p but he'll do nothing for Scotland.

Strachan has to be the one. He'll shake up Scottish football and make sure the right people get through.

Vogts did bring through the youngsters, granted; but he didn't have much choice.

I think it was about time the Scots got themselves a decent manager who would be able to blend the youth that is coming through with the experience that is available currently. Admittedly Vogts didn't have the best pool of talent to choose from but he still made grave errors against "poorer" teams.

I think Strachan would make a good choice for Scotland because he has kind of been there before i.e. no world stars to choose from (currently) but the potential to mould a very good side. He has the desire to do the job and the ability, but it's whether the job would accomodate him enough??

I may be English, but I hope that the Scots get out of the mire that they are in. Back in the day when Scotland were a more formidable team, I used to enjoy watching them. Unfortunately, they are now in comparison with the likes of Georgia, Liechtenstein etc. Tis a shame. :(

Having heard Berti complain of being spat on and physically abused, does this mean we'll see an end to the charade that it is only a moronic minority of England fans who take things too far?

Moyesy won't go. I'd put Strachan in charge, because he did well at Southampton, and Walter Smith won't leave Man United

Smith isn't at Man Utd...Queiroz took the position back this year. Smith was only 'til the end of last year.

WHAT WAS BERTI'S WORST ACHIEVEMENT?

In anticipation of the demise of the manager with the worst record in Scottish history, we are conducting a poll.

- Losing 5-0 to France
- Losing 6-0 to Holland
- Losing 4-0 to Wales
- Losing 3-0 at home to Hungary, our biggest home defeat in 30 years
- Gaining 2 points out of 9 from our first three Qualifying games
- Making Scotland the laughing stock of Europe (and the World)
- Falling to 68th in FIFA rankings - the worst ever
- Tommy Burns
- All of the above with a side helping of Kevin Kyle

LOL :D

Has he?
Maybe he will take over at WBA?
Scottish football can't get any worse though...

*EDIT*
On who I think will take charge...
I am not sure. I don't think Strachen will as the pressure of the job will be huge. Moyes won't leave Everton in the position that they are in. He will see out the season and try to get European Football stay up.

Yes...he's SO much better than Walter Smith.
