hey guys I have tried numerous times to get counter strike On my laptop. I have windows xp if that matters. But please someone direct me to somewhere I can get it. I do not want to to buy it when I can get it for free. Thanks to whoever helps me out.

The first place to go is the official Counter Strike page (www.counter-strike.net).

However, from what I understand, the newer Half Life and Counter Strike: Source files can only be acquired through Steam.

Also, you may want to check out Planet Half Life's CounterStrike section (www.planethalflife.com/cs). Or if you're lazy, you can click here (http://www.planethalflife.com/cs/files/) to go straight to the file list.

There, you should find:

Steam with CS 1.6
Counter Strike 1.6
Steam Client
CS 1.5
1.5 Upgrade
1.5 Full Retail Patch
1.4 to 1.5 Retail Patch
Linux Server
Linux Server Upgrade


Also, as a bit of a Quake 3 Arena fanboy, make sure you check out the Urban Terror (www.urbanterror.net) mod. You might like it!

You could only ever play Counter Strike for free if you owned Half Life, as it was a mod for it. If you own Half Life then you can get Counter Strike for free if you download Steam and register a CD Key.

Alternatively, buy Counter Strike through Steam, or buy the Silver Edition of Half Life 2 when it comes out, and you'll get all the games that Valve ever released. (I think)

I think there's a Half-Life pack with CS in, along with HL and the two other mods. That might help.
EDIT: Half-Life Generations is the pack's name. Hope it helps. :)

at the end of the day... just buy HL for £3! I've seen it for £3 in Dixons, GameStation, 5D and Game in where I live (Swansea)... so the prices are probably gonna be the same country-wide :)
