Chelsea have changed their emblem for their centenary celebrations (1905-2005) and will be used from next season. It is based on the 1955 design - when they last won the league - which was the 50th year of Chelsea.

This page (http://www1.chelseafc.com/article.asp?article=235920&Title=History+-+Badges&lid=Navigation+-+The+Club&sub=History+-+Badges&nav=&sublid=) shows the badges they have used in the past.

Bristol City - my local club - changed from their classic Robin back to a crest in 1997 for the clubs centenary, but we still remain the 'Robins'.

Arsenal have also changed their badge recently and in 1998 Manchester United dropped the words 'Football Club' from their badge.

Does it not affect the way you see a club? They way you grow up supporting a team with a certain emblem and then they change it, does it not make you feel differently to the team.

It seemed like a different when Bristol City changed theirs, but it didn't for Man Utd.

What do people think? And is it better than the previous emblem?

I like the first Chelsea badge

:D

I think chaging the badge for their centenary is ok, but i don't really like what Man Utd and Arsenal did as they just changed it for commercial reasons =/

Brighton have changed their badge several times (including for our centenary), all for the better probably :)
Here (http://www.footballcrests.com/bhafc.htm) is a history of our crest which i would copy and paste but the site won't let me...

Chelsea (apparently) dropped their badge in order to dismantle former Owner and Chairman Ken Bates' regime at the club.

It was he who introduced the CFC badge.

Another part of this is that the name "Chelsea Village", a property development owned by the club (I think) is being phased out.

I prefer our new (ie. old) badge as it seems to have more sentimental value.

Hmmm...not sure I like the new Chelsea badge. Looks kinda...well unchelsea-ish. The lion will be missed. Fulham changed their badge in 2000 methinks. Used to look like this http://homepage.ntlworld.com/billchurchley/fulham-badge.jpg
Now it's changed to the rather more drab: http://www.footyprogs.fsnet.co.uk/fulham_new_badge.gif

I think it is better than the previous version with the lion on. No doubt it is just a clever ploy to introduce a new kit [/joke] I think that all teams should commemorate their centenary. We did...
