Xfire (www.xfire.com) is a small, free program that's a bit like MSN for gaming. It tells you what games your friends are playing and lets you join the server they're on instantly.
You can also chat privately in game, which is always an advantage (plus you can spam your best buds with "OMFG PWNEEED!11111111")

Everyone post their tags here; it'll certainly make organization easier.

its supports all teh major online games (cs, call fo duty, eve among many and many i just be cant be bothered to name them all) and i havent noticed it ra, hogging. particularly when compared to Newton antivirus. and i havent use alt-tab in years...

Yeah. Imagine MSN with a status thing that says what server and game they're playing, and on most games a button to join them.

You also have a hotkey to open a chat box in game to stop you having to alt-tab out of the game, and you can configure it to pop up a toast in game when you get a message.

Xfire can also be used ingame by pressing scroll lock+ tab.
Just like friends on Steam, but with loads of non Valve games as well.

I had it a while ago, but it wasn't letting me play any online games with it. Something about too many network-protocol bindings. Anyway to fix this?

Sounds like a windows problem, possibly you have too many programs trying to access the intarweb

If you have SP2, try this:

Increases maximum number of connections. Also check for spyware cuz that could be taking up connections.

Mmkay, Xfire seems to be fucking up a few peoples games (crashes, refusal to work) including mine...

So can anyone suggest another good one?

If you want some kind of voice comms thing, don't use teamspeak... use ventrillo all the way... my clan've had so many problems with TS. Now we use vent and nothing's gone wrong so far :)

1) Nah, I like my 5.1...So I don't want headphones, but I want a headset...And it needs to be USB due to 5.1 jack setup

2) Meh, seems to be a problem they're working on, there's a sticky in the steam forum about it saying there's not much they can do (since steam is shit) and they've had many many reports of it before (it basically says that the game is unavailable, also locked me out of steam with a socket error)

I have just got x-fire and when I try to log in it says...

Error, go to www.x-fire.com to resolve fire wall issuses. I am quite a n00b and I am not sure what this is saying to me and when i go on the help section on x-fire.com it says...

"Now we're getting technical. First off, you don't need to jeopardize your security to use this service. Xfire uses TCP port 25999, and you'll be connecting to the cs.xfire.com server. Make these changes to your firewall, and you'll soon be locating your online compadres with the best of them. If there's still no joy in logging on after you fiddle with the firewall modifications, send an email to support@xfire.com. Be sure to include pertinent information on your firewall (the brand, model, and software version number), and we'll toil with you until the problem is fixed."

Turn off your software firewall and open 25999 for TCP on your router.

CRISPY there should be a option in your firewall to open ports. It might be under advanced. Just open the port as said!

If you have a router, just do the same and your in!

if you still have problems get a tech or someone to have a look at it :)

If you have a firewall program (like symantec or Norton or something like that) disable it.

If you have a router... that's a kinda box thing that dials the internet for you, you'll need to open the port for xfire. It's doubtful you'll need to do this as I don't have the xfire port open and it still works through my router.
