View Full Version : What's happening:((
Read my other thread....Ok, I bought some Unick(*sniggers*)thermal transfer stuff, covered the little rectange on my processor with it(you know, like only 2 pieces of paper thick)and then put the fan on, as instructed by my brother. I have put all the stuff in the machine, put all the cables into the sockets, including the wires from the case into the mobo and the power supply wires into the mobo. Every time i put the power cable into the back of the machine, there is a high pitched dog whistle like sound, and when I press the front button the machine will not turn on. Why??? All the case power button.etc wires are plugged into the mobo and the power supply is plugged into the mobo!! The speaker is plugged in so if the proccesor was fucked it would have screamed...or maybe it wouldnt cos the pc wont turn on! My bro says its the power supply squeeling. The squeeling doesn't start until I plug the power supply into the mobo. until then there is no high pitched squeeling. Wtf is going on??

that screech is probally the fan mount brushing against the fan.
that grey past probaly served as a lubericant as well
Um, I hate to contradict you both... Wait, no I don't. Besides, I'm only contradicting Smiff... but he says the squealing happens when he plugs it in, not when he turns it on.
When you plug it in, there aren't any fans going round.
And the grey paste is the thermal paste between heatsink and CPU. What's it lubricating? Naffin!
Alright, so you want to see about swapping your power supply over if you can. If you can't, you're not gonna solve the problem, so you're going to have to be able to do it.
Replace that: it screws into the case happily, but be careful when unscrewing it because it's heavy for computery stuff and so is likely to drop off when you get to the last screw. Swappy over, screw and plug the new one in. Silence?
ohhh fuck. The reason for the dog whistle was that I had mounted the mobo straight onto the side of the case, short circuiting it, and when I was realising I had done this(putting the power in and out at the time to make it work)the mobo flashed, and so is dead. Don't worry though I stole my mobo and put it in, and it works fine. Thanks for your help, +++

I'm wondering, pardon me but, what's a mobo?
(its relevant to interest and the question was answered - not entirely off topic so there :p)
