Ok, next stage in the addathon

I've devised a system to rate pics and their contributors.

pics will be rated on:
- Skill (was it generally a good Photoshop job?)
- Humour (was it funny?)
- Realism (did it actually add something to the pic? Does it blend in with the rest? Is it not too random?)
- Politeness and general good-spiritness (have you been nice in this thread? has your addition opened up new possibilities for others to continue? Did you not take up too much space, so no-one else can add?)

The idea is, to make a valid addition to this thread, you must be rated positive on any three of the four points.

This means we will not be mad at a pic when it lacks skills, as long as you really tried to be funny, blend it in with the rest and are a nice person.
It means we won't frown when something is totally random (not realistic), when it's actually rather funny and well performed...
It could even mean we won't hold it against you if you're an utter prick (failing point 4) but have done well on points 1, 2 and 3. This however, remains to be seen, as we don't want pricks here.

How do we rate?
You must do that, yourselves. Power to the people.

whenever you add something you must copy and paste the following form (and fill it in)

rating for contributor: enter contributor's name
Rating for skill (+/-):
Rating for humour (+/-):
Rating for realism (+/-):
Rating for character and niceness (+/-):


rate all for points with either a "+" or a "-".

All contributors start with 0 points.
If you do ok, you will gain 2 points (3 + and 1 -).
If you do really well, you will gain 4 points (4 +).
If you are mediocre, you will gain nothing (2 + and 2 -).
If you are bad, you will lose 2 (3 - and 1 +) or 4 points (4 -).

I'll keep track of all ratings, and post a list now and then showing who's got points and who doesn't.

Now then.
You only vote when you post a pic, and you only vote for the one person that posted a pic before you.
If I post a new pic, because the old one is full, I will not post a rating. The first one to add an addition will rate the last addition to the last pic.

If I see or suspect any bullying or nastyness going on with the ratings, I will act swift, strict and hopefully fair.
If i suspect deliberate false ratings, I will act and punish.

I want to see all discussions, arguements and all that gone from this thread. Keep it to an absolute minimum.
If you see an addition you don't like, make a better one yourself, and post it. When you do so, you have the right to judge the post before you, and give it the proper ratings.

I will post a new pic in this thread soon, but first there is the possibility to ask questions.

Is everything clear? and/or do you have any further suggestions/ideas?

If you have any constructive criticism, you can post it here in short, or PM me about it explaining yourself more extensively.

Also, if you see pics that you think would be great source material, don't hesitate to PM me.

1) rate a pic, only when you post a pic
2) rate by giving a + or a -.
3) no discussions, no small talk, we have a whole forum to talk, and an irc channel to chat.
4. if you give a pic a bad rating, that's fine, but you must incorporate that pic in your creation. IE you cannot ignore the bad pic. People will take advantage if you could.

PB, sorry for my incurable idiocy, it happens. I think the only problem would be the inability to rate without pics (may cause editing without real effort) and inability to rate anyone but those above you. I can see useless edits being made in order to have a go at someone's work, and unfair ratings are hard to correct. Oh and the character niceness, a minus will cause more trouble than it's worth. That said:

I don't know what the best way to run this is, but i'm trying things out. the points you raise are important...
the reason i made these rules was to concentrate any criticism in one rating, and not have long debates about it... and in forcing people who want to criticise, to make an effort themselves.
my theory could work, but so could yours
please stay observant ;) so we'll eventually get the best possible format to do this.

It seems to this point that some of the realism ratings have been a bit harsh - for example, the addition of the clothesline is realistic in comparison to spiderman and I think should have gotten a positive rating (but of course since it is a matter of opinion, don't kill me ;) ) and blends in well with the concept of small village in Italy, with a woman washing her hair or something out the window and a gondola passing by underneath... in any case. i dont know about anyone else, but i thought realism meant how it looked in the picture, like the quality of the cropping and size, perspective etc, not if it should be there, but if it looks like it really is there,

well, the scores aren't the most important thing...

it's to encourage people to do their best...
it's to encourage critics to try it themselves before they say something
and it's to spot people who make bad additions all the time...

Skill ===> is about quality of the photoshop, cropping, edges and all that
Realism ===> is about: is it not too random? too random is bad (-) any relevance to the pic is good (how weird it may be) = (+)

the scores are not to make this a real contest, but to keep track of people who are doing very well, as well as people doing very poorly.

Is it possible to introduce some kind of borderline, rather than just positive or negative? I know sometimes an addition's no quite got that 'thing' to make one category +ve, but at the other time, it's not bad enough to get a -ve...
