Well, it would seem like if there was to be one in the summer of corse, but what I would like to know who would be interested in coming and whereabouts would be best to have the meet (because lets face it, Scotland is a big place)
So all those who are slightly interested in coming please state that you are and whereabouts in Scotland you are from and we can start organising from there.
:)
The date is: Saturday July 16th 2005

This sounds highly good news, I've been waiting ages for one of these.
I'm guessing the meet'll be along the Central Belt somewhere, as it'd mean generally least travel [as I don't feel like getting a train to Inverness, much as I love the footy team there].
So, Edinburgh? Glasgow? Somewhere in between, a la Falkirk? [edit - live in Glasgow meself]
And if you think you might go - are you 18 or under? [just to get an idea]

I'm 16, 17 on the 2nd August.

Ooh, ooh! I'm going to be in Glasgow sometime next month, like April 9/10thish, but I don't know if I'd be allowed to come. That's probably too soon anyway.
I'm also probably attending either the University of Glasgow, or the University of Stirling come fall, but that's quite some time from now..

I'll come. :)
If anyone on the way between Swansea and the meet is wants to save some petrol, I don't mind giving lifts. Is this going to be overnight? Seeing as it's gonna be about 8 hours in the car both ways and we're probably all gonna be drunk somewhere in between.

I might actually be able to make it to Edinburgh, although it depends on when it is, if I have passed my driving test by then (which I should have, if it's in the summer) and if I am insured on a car (which again I should be in the summer but not sure for how long).
I will keep an eye on this and try to keep you posted.

I'm not anywhere near Scotland, but I'm hoping to go up to stay with Minted sometime next week, and if he doesn't hate me too much I might take an extended holiday up there over the summer sometime during the holidays and drop along to the meet then.

This Summer I might go on a trip to Scotland.. If my family decide to visit my cousin in Glasgow.. And it's not too soon or too late.. And I can afford it.. And if i'm not on political camp, or in the Navy..
Its highly unlikely that I ever get that far, but, who knows?
Cheeky Prophet

If it's in early July it's unlikely I'll be able to go, but it all depends on when I'm moving over there. Probably won't be until August. But if that one goes well, maybe there will be another I can attend (I want to go to at least one someday).

I checked train times and stuff; would take me two and a half hours to get there with a total fee of £55. I would prefer to drive there but I think that will only be possible when my parents are away, a week later, because of the fact that I would be taking one of their cars... (one car will be left at home when they are away, and times would be more flexible)
This is just me though, if the 16th is fine for everyone else then I'm sure I could muster a way to get there, and if not then I won't ask everyone else to change.
edit: It's times like this I wish I were one of my friends, she has a card which enables free rail travel to anywhere in the UK (only for her unfortunately) because her dad had some snazzy executive job in the national rail company.

Every meet needs a token Yank right?
Whup, I'm not going up next week, otherwise I wouldn't be allowed to go on the meet.
So i'm going to see if I can get up there before July 16th, so I can get myself aquainted with the big cities. Just be warned, I'm going to be bringing my skateboard, and none of yous are having a go. Touch it and you can eat canadian maple.

Now this is the question I like to hear. How extreme is the pissup going to be? Are we going to get ratted? Are we going to drink? Hell, are most of us even legal to drink?
Not that I'm turning up just to get hammered, but when pitched in with twenty or so other strangers, alkyhol tends to make things that little bit easier :)
I've heard Edinburgh is a pretty tidy city, though it's gonna be an expensive week. I gotta be in Essex for two days on July 6th heh...

Oh sweet Jesus Edinburgh hotels are expensive (let's just get the penthouse at the Hilton and split it 20 ways)
Nah, I just remembered that there's several thousand B&Bs in Edinburgh, so it looks like we're safe.
Pub crawl = no problem. I'll only be 17 but I've been drinking too much in clubs since I was 15... so you get the idea.
Pfft... your not wrong there, they are fugging expencive. Thank goodness for hostels!
Luckily I've been doing my homework...

Globetrotter (http://www.globetrotterinns.com/findus_ed.html) place reads OK. Anyone been/stayed there?
edit: It seems a bit out of town though...
edit2: The other place doesn't have parking and the Travelodge would seem to be full already! Damn tourists.

I've got the hangover from hell, I have a very bad drinking trait of as soon as I'm tipsy, thinking I can drink 10 times more than I actually can. Arg. Make sure I don't do that please :(
Anyway, moneys... depends how much you plan on drinking :p erm, last night I spent about £25 on alcohol and got completely plastered off my face (a whole load of shots all within 10 minutes)... I'm guessing we're just aiming for a few quiet pints and a few games of pool... so probably £10 should be alright for that.
I'm up for the 8 person room sharage btw.

Just incase you need any advice on how far away places are from certain other places, I know a fair bit of Edinburgh since my sister goes to Uni there and I go down to visit her often. All the advice would come through my sister though, she knows the place. And you gotta make sure you don't step into any 'Yah' bars. If there are poshly spoken people wearing pashminas, walk calmly out of the pub door. I will ask my sister about any possible pubs for the piss-up, after all, she in the team which won last year's Edinburgh University Beerienteering Competition (running about the streets of Edinburgh and dashing into various pubs that you were directed to by clues given by the pub owners who were all in on the competition too, you also had to drink a certain cocktail before moving onto the next clue). You end up totally hammered and dripping in sweat.
Do I get to sleep with any girls?

Preferably it'll be close to the hostel (as we're gonna have to find out way back with probably not a great sense of direction). Thanks for the help :)

I get keys to my flat on the 5/6th i believe so if i am not working back in stonehaven i can manage, i know a few reasonably priced pubs in the central areas, for example one just off the royal mile called fiscal which IIRC does £1.50 bottles of stella and should be quite quiet in summer, although the doorstaff can get a bit crazy and ID everyone
Timmeh
29-03-2005, 11:34 PM

I'd love to come meet you lovely peoples but alas, it is finals time, and I am skint!
Let me know if there's one going on in dahn sarf, or in the midlands, as I can surely make arrangements then.
How far south?
I live in the penzance area in cornland!

I don't think I'll be able to make this now :(
Basically, my dad said that it's fine, but only if I tell me mom. And I did. And she said no. I tried to argue and she just wouldn't let me speak.
Which is shit.
So yes. Midlands meets would be ideal since I can just say I'm going into town...but preferably a meet without the main focus being boozeing...I'm only young :(
Bollocks.
Just say you're popping around to tescos or something, and come back a week later with a shopping bag full of souvineers from edembra

I'm definately coming to this now (unless something with my band changes at the last minute)... but I don't think I'll be able to stay over at the hotel type place... as I've got something with my band the next day :(
I might be bringing my sister with me, if that's ok.

I still don't know if I'll be able to make it, because I don't know where I'll be this summer.
However, I'll probably be shopping in Glasgow this weekend (yay!), so if any of you Glasgow peoples are in the city and see someone who looks like me wearing a pie girl sweatshirt, say hi.

Pft as long as you don't greviously injure anyone they'll let you out in the morning. What a great idea, instead of paying for a hostel, lets all get ourselves arrested

How do we all pay for the accomodation?
etc etc.

How do we all pay for the accomodation?
I have a credit card, but it's probably not a great idea to book in advance - if people pull out at the last minute, whoever paid the bulk doesn't really want to be left paying for 4 empty beds.

Hmm, I might be tempted to drive north of the border - anyone from the Cambridge/London area interested?
Naturally, it depends on the date, but we'll see

PUB INFO
Courtesy of my sister (who happens to be a Beerienteering champion, PM me if you want to know how that works)
the local wetherspoons is called 'the standing order' - it's very cheap, and pretty big, although it gets very busy, esp at weekends. it's on george st - by no means should they attempt to go to ANY other bar/pub on that road, or in fact anywhere near it, because that's yah/yuppie land. if it's a nice day, the pear tree on west nicolson st has a nice beer garden, although it can get busy as well. there aren't many uber cheap pubs really. there are a couple of "scream pubs" - 'the tron' just off the royal mile is quite a good size, but it's a bit faceless and dull. but basically at most pubs you're looking at about £2.50 a pint. there's some nice pubs on the royal mile, kind of old man-ish but good beer.
and they should probably check out the cowgate if they're in that area, there's quite a few pubs and clubs down there. there's 'opium', which is a rock club but it's not as minging as you'd expect a rock club to be, it's actually not bad inside. 'rush' is pretty cheap but tiny inside. my favourite club is 'subway' on the cowgate, that's pretty cheap but it's not to everyone's taste, it's a bit barn-like and soulless, but the music's always good any time I've been there. most clubs cost a fortune on a saturday night - 'espionage' on victoria st is free but it's always sweaty and heaving, maybe not what they're looking for.
That help at all?
Jep.
But isn't there like, only 2 people that are old enough to drink :p
Meh, i'm not fussed. I'd prefer not to drink because my legs would get waxed.

I'ma confirmimundo! The only small problem now is timing my transport and such and methinks we all needa start thinking about how we're gonna pay for the accomidation.

Ok, another update on my situation.
I will have a flat, fairly central.
I should have a 4 days a week job (manual labour yay) which shouldn't include weekends and could well be down in the city on the 16th.
So i am still a maybe but it's looking more likely.
Hmm, not really an update....
/me waits for the walkoff to start up again
