1024 x 768 85 hertz...I can have a way higher screen res, but they get unreadable when too small and you can't have the refresh rate as high...it hurts my eyes, also my monitor emits a whining noise with really high/low resolutions

I normally have mine sat on 1024x768, I find larger resolutions tend to make me sit too close to the monitor, where it might proceed to latch onto my head and feed on the nutricious goo inside.

1024x768, fonts look out of proportion on higher...

In games 1280x1024 if I get a decent fps :)

I have mine on 1280x1024 because I have a TFT screen, which pretty much enforces it. I solved the problem of fonts looking too small by getting a larger monitor. :)

Another 1280x1024, anything smaller looks huge.

One wonders what the actual point of this thread is...

1280x1024 on my lovely 17" flatscreen at uni; on the laptop loaned to my mum from her school (she's a teacher) which I've commandeered (:D), 1024x768.

Wow, this thread makes me feel inadequate and inefficient (nothing new there then)!

1024x768 here on my old 17", which I find about right. At work I'm on something higher, 1280x1024 I think, and I forget if thats a 19" or 21" flatscreen CRT, so it's easier to see.

800x600 clearly looks wrong though, that's what my dad's PC is set to.

1024x768 on this PC and 800x600 on my Linux one. Both set to the highest resolution they can handle, and both are old 15" things.

1280*1024

Oh yes. Even if it means I have to actually move my head to see everything on the screen.

MORE STUFF ON SCREEN = MORE WIN!!11

Why do most of you have it set 1280*1024? That's not a proper-shaped-scaled-up-from-the-likes-of-640*480-and-800*600-and-1024*768!

Go 1280*960. At 60Hz.

1280x960 (proper 4:3 aspect ratio) and 1280x1024 seem to be as popular as each other. Why, I have no idea. I did run at 1280x960 for a while, but then I realised: Why give up extra pixels? :)

I'd probably run at a higher res if this monitor didn't drop to less than 85Hz at 1600x1200

Dual 21" monitors are sweet, but they can get a bit laggy or slow sometimes.

Many monitors nowadays (especially the everso popular 17" TFT) are in 4:5 ratio rather than the more traditional 4:3 that you refer to.

My monitors are set at:

(going clockwise round my room!)

1280x960
1024x768
1024x768
1280x960
1600x1200
1024x768

and I'm soon getting a rather odd 14" monochrome potrait monitor that my Dad had lying around. That will run at 768x1024!

1280 x 768

I have a '17 LCD Flatscreen that I have had for little more than 4 months.

Also for an avid gamer like me you need all the desktop space you can get :)
