Now there comes a time of year when the footy gamers get a little restless. Its comes when both EA and Konami start whipping out the advertising for their newest football annuals.
I have been hearing things about FIFA this year, mainly from Xbox magazine. "They've changed everything!", but little from the Pro Evo camp.
Now, most people will should tell you that,as the market stands, Pro Evo is the better of the two (this is my opinion btw) and that FIFA has become to easy to play and has become too distant from real football. Pro Evo doesn't offer the fancy graphics and licenses that EA have, but it plays the beautiful game amazingly well.
I have seen some screenies of Pro Evo 5 and it is scheduled for a 28th October release. FIFA, which I have seen little of, has a release this month.
Which ones will you be buying sports fans?

I will definately be buying Pro Evo 5.
After buying recent Fifa games I haven't been impressed. They have made it too much like an arcade game where anyone can pick it up and play. It may have superior graphics and all the names but for pure gameplay it has to be the PES series.
After buying PES3 I am hooked and love the master league feature. I even enjoy creating the kits so they are realistic. This argument seems to go on every year and there will always be people who like Fifa and vice-versa...
Here's my handy guide to buying a football game...
Fifa - For kids and girls.
PES - For true football fans.
Which one are you?

I think PES5 will be better. I've played Winning Eleven 9 and I think it is one of the best PS2 games ever. It's not that different but the small changes make games more realistic and entertaining. FIFA has a lot of catching up to do.

Being the Fanboy (i only used that word to check if it really is word filtered) that i am, ill get FIFA because im used to it and i want some self-esteem, but been the Footy Fan that i am, im getting PES5 first choice, because of all the great reviews ive heard.

I will be buying Pro Evo 5 for sure, I will wait and see if FIFA really has changed and improved or if it's just the same old crap that we get every year.

You should do what I did and get the PC version. With that not only do you get all of the real official kits by downloading a special patch, you also get all updated stats, realistic faces, and stuff like like the champions league theme when the team enters the pitch. Tis somewhat awesome. I haven't tried, but theres some software you can use to edit any music file, so you can change it so the crowd sing "you'll never walk alone" when they enter the pitch :D
You can also download software that lets you play online :D Tis brilliant..though some people are a tad too good. The controller problems easy to fix too. On ebay, you can get a USB converter that you plug your PS2 controller in and it makes it work on ya PC :D
Can't wait for PES5 though...I iwsh I had winning eleven mind..have you checked out what that looks like on video? It all flows so amazingly...it's like watching a real game.

It's very very good. I always liked PES, but I was a tad put off because of it's feel. It had the gameplay, that's brilliant, but it didn;t have the nice official-ness of FIFA, and I like that :D

The boots are awesome. They give most the big players their correct boots and everything...and the balls only add to the realism...AND an updated Anfield? :D

PES5 hands down. i love the gameplay
the only thing that i didn't like was that there was not enough "normal" kits types in create your own (eg. stripes or quarters)

If I have enough money, I'll probably buy PES5.
Must get my hands on Brian Lara '05 first though.. and I still need to pay my dad £50 for buying me my new PS2... damn it, why do they all come out at the same time...

Based on how the game plays... PES5.
Based on mount of teams and licenses... FIFA of course.
But I'd rather have a game that plays well than a game that has everything I want and is crap to play.
In summary, PES5.
