Nothing to do with religion you may be pleased/dissappointed to hear!
I saw a band live a couple of weeks ago, and they were amazing. So amazing that I've been telling everyone about them - evangelising in fact. So this is a thread for that. What have you heard recently that has made you go "I must tell the world!"?
Please (really please) try not to let this get into a "Green Day are the r0xx0r!!!!!11!", "Green Day sux, [Insert alternative mainstream band name here] are l33t35t band evar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1112221!!" type of discussion. Just let us know who you like, ideally someone who might be new to us, what kind of stuff they do, and why you like it...
[Deep Breath] So here it is, the band I saw. They're called Bellowhead (www.bellowhead.co.uk) . They are an folk outfit, about 11 members, fronted by John Bowden and John Spiers. But don't walk away now.
They played an hour set (it was a festival, there was limited time), and I was astounded the whole way through. Even though it was traditional folk, the music was fresh and modern sounding. All 11 members were virtuoso musicians, but no-one felt the need to showboat and dominate the sound. The lead singer had charisma and could really sing. But the thing that really stood out? This was 11 people, who have played about 10-15 gigs, but they looked and sounded like they had been playing together all their lives. The music was properly complex, and they were properly tight. Not a note out of place. And they were really enjoying themselves.
And the drummer did one song using only a frying pan (and a drumstick of course!) - what more could you want.
So that's me done. I would urge you to check them out - they don't have much recorded material yet, so go and see them live.
Enjoy!
