I figured with them:

a) Being my favourite band
b) being one of the best bands in the world

I would start a thread on them :) Talk about everything related to the mighty Chilis. Any current info such as new albums, singles, gigs you've been to, if you've ever met the band etc.

I'll start then:

The Chilis have a new studio album registered to come out on 3rd October. It's said to be "More heavy metal than previous attempts" which is a small shame, as I enjoy their earlier funk-rock stuff

Yeah so do i. Blood Sugar Sex Magic is one of my favourite albums ever!

I hate pretentious people who say "yeah well its not as good as there early stuff" about EVERY BAND EVER... but i think that definatly applies here!

hmmm, The Chilli Peppers, very good band, but I havnt been that much into them, I can however appreciate they are pure class. I may buy there new album when it comes out.
My favourite song by them is Californication

They are one of my favourite bands as well, but I think nearly everybody secretly likes them (or least a few of their songs). One of my favourite songs at the moment is Scar Tissue, mainly because of the amazing guitaring in it :p .

My favourite RHCP choon is 'Save the Population', it's the dogs bollocks. Also the intro to 'Can't Stop'.

Anyone know when their next album is due out?

I'm one of those people who likes a few songs but just can't listen to them for more than 20 minutes or so. I saw them at Leeds festival 6 years ago, and it wasn't nearly as engaging or spectacular as most fans had me believe. Even the die-hard fan I was with agreed on that.

It's impossible to play some of the bass lines... and considering he only started about 30 years ago (yes a long time ago) he's one of the best bassists I've ever heard, and coupled with the brilliance of their funk rock, they are one of America's best rock bands

The Chilis are definatly one of my favorite band. I want to get the album Blood Sugar Sex Magic, but right now I dont have much spare cash. I can't wait for their new album.

My uncle beat the drummer at pool, then as part of the bet he had to buy my uncle a pint.

My favourite Album is Mothers Milk, and i also love Freaky Styley and Blood Sugar Sex Magic. As for thier new stuff, I dont really listen to it, there are a few tunes on Californication i quite like but i dont really like By The Way. Flea is overrated.

Thomp

Have you heard Flea play? He is one of the best bassists ever. Can you play anything 10% as good as he does?

Anyway, one of the new tracks on the new album is called "Over 18"

i can play ALOT of his stuff...... i struggle with some timing, but otherwise i can do it.

He's my favourite bassist, but his riffs loop allot so you can pick them up quickly

Definetly my favourite band.
Fav album is Blood Suger Sex Magik. But favourite song is called Millionaires Against Hunger which is an extra track on Freaky Styley, its just so god damed funky. Has anyone heard it?

I have all their albums except for The Abbey Road LP and Out In LA cos its just full of the demos and remixes. Didnt even know about the new one. a definite buy, cant wait!

Sorry to bump this thread back up again, but the release date has now been pushed back to May. Should be good for a birthday present. :p

Phoen!X
02-02-2006, 11:30 PM
9th May supposably, will probably change though, forward by internet leaks or back by production processes.

According to a recent interview with the frontman Anthony Kiedis in music magazine NME, 'Stadium Arcadium' was originally scheduled to be a trilogy of albums each released six months apart (alà System of a Down's "Mezmerize/Hypnotize", but with one more album), but was condensed into one 25 track double album so that the music could be heard quicker. Kiedis announced the first single to be a track titled Dani California (where "Dani" is the same character from their last debut single, 'By the Way' and was the unnamed "teenage bride with a baby inside" in the modern rock song "Californication". "Dani", according to Kiedis, is a representation of every girl that he's come across in his life).

Kiedis later spoke to MTV News about the album, saying that it has "retardedly painful funk" and some songs that are just "straightout dirty funk". He also alluded to the fact that the Peppers' more melodical sounds as heard on Californication (1999) and By The Way (2002) will be present as well on the album.

As for the 13 tracks left off of the original 38 track triology, Kiedis has noted that there are plans to release them as bonus tracks on albums distributed to the numerous store chains.

Victor wooten, could flea play anything 10% as good as he does?

Flea is a quite good bassist but TREMENDOUSLY overrated.

If you want any more examples of *good* bassists just ask there's plenty of examples.

I love the peppers, i went to the By the Way tour in 2002 when they came down to Australia. It rocked - flea jumped up on top of the bass drum and knocked out a massive bass lick. For a second i thought it would be cool to take up bass guitar, then when i came to i realised what an awful mistake i almost made :)

I don't like their previous stuff as much, the earliest I really like is My Friends or Under the Bridge. The stuff around that time and before was more rap singing, which I don't like. The bassing and guitaring was fine, but I just don't like rap rock tbh.

Chili Peppers = Ownage, plain and simple.

My favourites would have to be "Save the Population", "Fortune Faded" and "Californication".

I like their softer songs more than the harder ones. And no, I'm not referring to the level of swearing and inuendo xD

Dani California bothered me every time I heard it.

And I just figured out why. I have two reasons, one a lot more troubling than the other.

First, it feels like two different songs tacked together (the verses don't actually match well with the choruses) - not including that wierd falsetto bridge and the guitar solo at the end. I'm willing to let those go.

Here's the BIG issue with it:

PLAIGARISM!

The verses (excluding the bridge and choruses obviously) have exactly the same guitar/bass lines (played on different brand instruments so it is less obvious) as "Unsound" by the Headstones (1995, from Teeth and Tissue), and the lyrics in the verses almost precisely sync up -- different words, but exactly the same rhythm.

rapidly declining originality, or even attempt at it, perhaps?

Even as a fan (since 1985 -and no intent yet to give up), i cannot ignore evidence that they've just been recycling since Mother's Milk. But at least it has been mostly reusing their own patterns.

It may be a Stevie Wonder cover, of which i was fully aware, but Anthony Keidis, if it is Anthony Keidis, just sounds a bit wierd I hope you didn't think I was saying that at you personally. If so, I apologise. It happens all too often, as I tend to type exactly what I think - but without the obvious verbal inflections to deflect potential offense.

Aaanyway... I noticed reference to Blood Sugar Sex Magik a few posts back (including one of yours), and it kind of fit in with a recent pattern of listening to all the albums in random order - this one was Friday, the last I could (I only have a small part of my collection with me here).

I definitely prefer the Mother's Milk/BSSM era of all possible forms, even if it is the same lineup now. Though certain songs on either album kind of get on my nerves...

like what? suck my kiss has a great bassline and rhythm, but it's so angry, if i wanted to listen to rap, i'd buy some.

other than that... OH DAMMNIT! you know the song porcelain on the californication album? i HATE that song to the max. maybe it's just my cd player, but there's so much interference it makes me want to sell the album on. sorry i'm so angry today, forgot my keys, couldn't lock up my bike properly so one of my wheels got stolen and missed my bass lesson not bieng able to get to my bass because of lack of keys. GRRRR.

I don't mind Porcelain. Every band needs their mellowed out songs, like Porcelain and Road Trippin'. I can't stand a few songs on Californication and By The Way, but the majority of their songs are good to listen to

i don't much like that song either, but only because their minor attempt not to be censored (which didn't work, based on the parental advisory sticker i've seen tagged to the album still) is so totally obvious that it just gets irritating.

one word switcheroo doesn't quite cut it. especially since every other lyric makes it completely clear the song is meant to be about oral sex.

People are becoming more and more relaxed over the subject... Generlization! Also unclear - do you mean relaxed as a function of declining societal taboos, or just because it happens so often there's no point in being bothered?

I'm aware that Rock & Roll itself (the very terminology used) has undertones of sexuality throughout. And I know that to portray the apparent "true" rock and roll lifestyle every other song must have something to do with sex. Also, considering many early antics of the Peppers one would almost have to expect a little random sexuality.

But just because it's an inevitability (and one that I will defend at least in terms of the artists right to do and say whatever they damn well please) does not mean I have to personally approve of it.

Party On Your Pussy (formerly Secret Special Song Inside)

Well, my landlady, she lives three houses away
And she claims that she can here my baby screaming to me
"Fuck me, Anthony. Anthony"

I want to party on your pussy, baby
I want to party, party on your pussy
I want to party on your pussy, baby
I want to party, party on your pussy

Struck by lust in a telephone booth
Busted by a cop; he said, "That's uncouth"
Well, he said that he can hear my baby screaming to me
"Fuck me, Anthony. Anthony"

I want to party on your pussy, baby
I want to party, party on your pussy
I want to party on your pussy, baby
I want to party, party on your pussy

I want to party on your pussy, baby

I want to party on your pussy
I want to party on your pussy, baby
I want to party on your pussy

I want to party on your pussy, baby
I want to party on your pussy
I want to party on your pussy, baby
I want to party on your pussy

Let me shine your diamond
The girl got a scratch
Slap that cat
Have mercy

I want to party on your pussy, baby
I want to party, party on your pussy
I want to part on your pussy, baby
I want to party on your pussy

I know someone who said he would love to sing Party on your Pussy at a karaoke bar.

I learned to play Pea on my friends bass about a week ago. I love the message in that song.

"I’m a little pea
I love the sky the trees
I’m a teeny tiny little ant
Checking out this and that
I am nothing
So you have nothing to hide
And I’m a pacifist
So I can fuck your shit up
Oh yeah I’m small

Fuck you asshole
You homophobic redneck dick
You’re big and tough and macho
You can kick my ass

...got it for $15.99 (Canadian). So fewer people have to rush off and do a conversion, that's:
$14.55 USD, 11.40 Euros, £7.80 (UK), or $18.79 AUD (Australia).

This was a one-day-only price, though, so I probably just got a really good deal because the record store brought in way too many discs - even given the anticipation factor.

This album is fucking classy. Starting with Dani California, it swings into gear. Songs that stood out for me:

Snow (Hey Oh)- A nice slice of funk rock, cool and mellow. Great for chilling out in your garden on a nice day like today... best riff by Frusciante on the album too *STAR SONG*

Hump De Bump: Red Hot Chili Peppers roots of funk re-visited :)

Especially in Michinga; Funkadelic bassline and cool lyrics

Desecration Smile: Like Snow, nice and mellow with the odd glint of beautiful guitar-nes by Frusciante

Storm in a Teacup: The title alone says it all

Buy it now people!

I'd have to say that the second CD is my favourite of the two. IMHO the first CD seems a bit "samey". There's a chunk on that CD that just sounds like Dani California repeated in different keys.

But I really like CD 2, not least because the of the fantastic song "If" but because it feels more diverse and less guitar driven like CD 1 does and more of a band collaboration.

If it hadn't been released prior to being on the greatest hits album, it couldn't have been a hit and therefore doesn't really have much reason to be on a greatest hits album. Just picked up Stadium Arcadium the other day, it's sweet, I really like it!
They just don't ever seem to dissapoint, and I love them for it.

On a side note Anthony Kiedis has a home in South Haven, Michigan (a short drive from my house). He sometimes hangs out at the Marina there on the Lake that one my friends works at.

Funny story: One of the girls that work there one day was sitting at the desk listening to Cold Play on her stereo and he walked in to say hello to us, talked for a bit, then on his way out he yelled to the girl "Hey Cold Play sucks!" And she replied "Oh yeah, I bet you couldn't do any better!" He broke out laughing and walked out the door. My friend goes over to her and says "Do you know who that was? Anthony Kiedis from RHCP!" She turned the brightest shade of red I've ever seen.

Yeh, it's a Greatest Hits album from their first four albums :) Download that, it has some fantastic tracks on it, notably Higher Ground, Fight Like A Brave, Knock Me Down, Catholic School Girls Rule and the always impressive Under The Bridge

You forgot True Men don't Kill Cyotes!

 Just now? No true music fan, (especially no Chili's fan!) should be without a copy. Fantastic funk album. When I listen to their newer stuff, Californication and Stadium Arcadium, I cant help but wish that they would go back to their funkier roots like in Blood Sugar....

I know, shame on me. However, before, my financial state did not allow me to get it, so I had to borrow it instead...
