so what song or music do you want played at your funeral, if any, and why

id like angel of death by slayer, not just because its a great song, but i can imagine so many stuck up people being so horrified by it....

or possibly seize the day by avenged sevenfold, but that might be a bit too soppy..

of course, ill be dead at my funeral, so it wont make much of a difference, but still

Im gonna make sure Im cremated just so i can have "This Fire" by Franz Ferdinand playing as my body rolls into the furnace. "THIS FIRE IS OUT OF CONTROL!! WERE GONNA BURN THIS CITY, BURN THIS CITY!!!" etc

I must say that I haven't really given much thought to my funeral, being so young and that, but I think I would like happy upbeat songs which would help people celebrate my life rather than mourn my death.

Nothing better than insanely happy music at a funeral.

i always thought the song time by the alan parsons project would work really well at a funeral, the lyrics are really appropriate.

If my name was Paul, it would have to be "Fly from heaven." As it isn't, fuck. I don't know, maybe Oh! You pretty things, for no apparent reason other than I like it.

O RLY?

Loud, fast and hard. My friends already told me they'd drink to my memory, so I want a punk rock Irish wake that carries on to the funeral.

I want people to have fun when I die, not be all crying and shit. I don't want the memories of good times I had with people to be overtaken with grief.

Hell, I'm just not that good a person to be missed too much.

Edication: Dancing with myself, by the incredibly sexy Billy Idol, as I need him to play at my funeral (in cd form at least) and who else would I dance with?

Johnny Cash - Hurt
Placebo - Pure Morning
Green Day - Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)

Return to Sender? That's a good one for irony!

I'd probably have a whole load of my favourite songs. Roses In The Hospital would definitely feature.

I Will Survive? Stairway to Heaven? Spirit in the Sky? This is so much fun!

No, but seriously, it would need to be upbeat and celebratory, maybe 'Copasetic' by the Rulers (that's an obscure one for you!)

Johnny Cash- Hurt
Led Zeppelin- Stairway to Heaven
Dire Straits- Local Hero

Somehow Goodnight Goodnight by Hot Hot Heat may apply to my wedding...or maybe *cheesy jokes*

Probably not Alive and Amplified by The Mooney Suzuki, or The Night I Lost My Head by Maxïmo Park (if I was killed by decapitation).

Post ENCORE! if you want more, people...I have plenty more.

If you're happy and you know it clap your hands, the traditional rhyme.

If that's a bit to merry for everyone and gets them too overjoyed about my untimely demise, I'd say TSOL - Code Blue for the lyrics. Probably won't have my funeral in a church due to them.

...i don't entirely wish to predict this. it's a well-known fact that when people get old their taste in music goes to shit, and they regress to the point where nothing but classical music will do.

that said, I feel Spirit of the West's "Home For A Rest" has the kind of vibe I'd like...

i.e. "lets all get completely drunk and party".

My granny had Unchained Melody played at her funeral, I think I'd like the same. It's beautiful, somber, and I don't think I've ever heard a song that comes near it's elegance, but simplicity.

"Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea, to the open arms of the sea. Lonely rivers sigh wait for me wait for me, I'll be coming home wait for me."

Dingbat

Whiskeytown - A song for you
or
Bob Dylan - He was a friend of mine

if thirty random persons would attend my funeral even though they wouldn't know me they'd cry for hours screaming "Whyyy!!...Wwhyy!!! whyy did you take him!! damn you.. damn you!! one of the world's greatests persons and he had to go before it was his time!!! whyyyyyy.. dear god oh whyy *grieves for several months* aahhaaa... ahhh .. ahh why...why.. aahhh... ahh .. why..why..."

Yes, that's how beautiful those songs are.

Either Death Blooms by Mudvayne or More of Myself to Kill by Between the Buried and Me.

But if I didn't want to completely horrify my relatives, probably Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven, as it's been the one piece I'll always enjoy.

Crawling Towards the Sun by The Hush Sound.
Nice, calm and happy.
And its got the lyrics
"The shadows kept me hidden
From the light that calls my name
All the creatures stood above me
Now I'm crawling towards the sun"

when my granny was alive she chose the music for her cremation (she knew she was dying and she was a control freak!) in her final joke to all of us, she had Ode to Joy played as the coffin was taken into the furnace...we all laughed through our tears and it was so touching...she was a special woman with a superb sense of humour- in this life and her next.

so i suppose i would like something like that to be played at my ceremony...something uplifting and meaningful.

On a serious note: The Trout by... some random composer :/ I should know this, rargh. My Dad used to play it to me, and had it played for me at his funeral :)
Alternatively I would have Don't Get Lost In Heaven and Demon Days by Gorillaz played one after the other - they're both beautiful and fitting.

Though I'd be tempted to have 5/4 again by Gorillaz, just for the pure comedy value of the line 'She turned my dad oooooooon' repeated in it three times or so :D

The Jam - Going Underground
Otis Redding - Knock on Wood
Verve - Drugs Don't Work

Seriously, I would have Radiohead - Street Spirit. It s a powerful and depressing song that is full of emotion. Street is also my surname...

If I put more thought into it then there is probab;y another song that I could come up with. I would like something that people would remember me by and everytime they heard it would think of me.

"Hard-Fi - Move On Now" if I want them to get over me,

Wake Up by The Arcade Fire...(coincidentally, their album's called Funeral).
Going Under by BRMC.
Heading For An Early Grave by Dogs.
Die, All Right! by The Hives.

Dope - Die Motherfucker Die
Bowling for Soup - Shut up and Smile
The Vines - Get Free
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under the Bridge

Excellent songs on their own, but when played at a funeral I think it'd just add to the effect

Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles, wouldn't that suite the event perfectly :p

... Right now I would probablly say anything good and happy by Franz Ferdinand. Mainly because it would lighten up the mood and I hate it when people are sad.

If I wanted them all to cry their eyes out I'd have Rufus Wainwright - Hallelujah.

Also wouldn't mind some Massive Attack - Teardrop, The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work, Snow Patrol - Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking, Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own - U2, Johnny Cash - Hurt and Goodbye My Lover - James Blunt.

Ask me in about a month and it might be a bit more joyful.

Even though it is melancholy I love this song. I'd also have the JCB Song by Nizlopi played too as that is teh win.

OF COURSE IT WILL BE RELEVANT! And my dad enjoys listening to System of A Down. Don't ask why. I don't know.
