Okay, ever since my thread died, I haven't had anywhere to post albums I wanna get, and want YOUR advice.

So I started a thread for myself (probably a short living thread):

My birthday is in a months time. I want to get a few CD's, but do not know which to get.

At the moment, I have decided to definately get the new Franz Ferdinand album. Others I may get, but need your advice:

The Bees - Free the Bees
The Subways - Young for Eternity
The Rakes - Capture / Release
Editors - The Back Room

And I also need your advice on:

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Howl
Supergrass - Road to Rouen
Nine Black Alps - Everything Is

I'd definately suggest getting The Bees, even just for the first few songs, although over all the album is still very good, "These are the ghosts" and "Wash in the rain" are great.

Howl is supposed to be utter rubbish.

I think you should get The Subways and Editors personally.

I'd go for Editors and The Bees

Howl is supposed to be utter rubbish.

Yes, I've heard it's pretty dodgy. Same with the new Dandy Warhols album...

I think I'm veering towards The Subways and The Bees, though I do like the sound of Art Brut and The Rakes...

The Bees - Free the Bees (get it)

Howl isn't very good, only a couple of tracks are ok.

I've got The Subways' album, and it's pretty damn good.

Not heard any of the others though....

I'll throw a spanner in the works and recommend anything by Sigur Ros, and "In A Safe Place" by The Album Leaf. Something different, y'know :)

Post it there. You won't get flamed for bumping, I'll make sure of it.

Or we could make this the new version of it...

The Bees are great, free the bees is also a great album

The Rakes have clips of their album on their site (very handy) http://www.therakes.co.uk/go.php?object=music_and_video and voila

Editors is also a good album, but a little samey, y'no. In Woolworths you can get a second disc with it for only an added pound which is pretty good, 'Colours' is the best on that second disc

I'm not too keen on the Subways, they just irritate me, but thats probably just a personal thing, and I'm sure I haven't given them fair judgement,

and Nine Black Alps seem quite good, I'm off to see them next month but that does't really help with the album...sorry...

EDIT Budiwick is right, Sigur Ros are also great and The Go! Team's album is filled with summer joy and happiness

The Social Distortion one is a must have 100%, I don't like the SLF as much but they're also darned good. But trusting that there's "Don't Drag me Down", "Mommies Little Monster" and "Ball and Chain" on Social Distortion's best of, definitely get that.

Any opinion at all on Art Brut?

At the moment, I've kinda dumped the Editors and Nine Black Alps because of they're sameness in their albums (I can always buy them another time, or borrow them off a mate), but am undecided whether to buy Art Brut or not. I shall get The Bees. But shall I get The Rakes? Shall I get The Subways? So far I've had good words on The Subways (mainly), but hardly any on The Rakes (or Art Brut).

The Bees - Free The Bees is one of the best albums that I have heard. I listen to it most out of all my albums and recommend it to everyone.

Buy it... or the gerbil gets it...

Yes, I am definately buying Franz Ferdinand and The Bees. And probably The Rakes and The Subways too.

Well, I've decided I'll get Franz, The Bees, The Subways and Editors (after all). But, I wanna know if Modest Mouse's album is any good (in your opinion), and which is the best British Sea Power album... Fuck it, add The Rakes to that list too! Why do I have to be a fucking indecisive Libra...

Swap Subways with The Rakes and youll be sorted. Please for the love of everyone that is not an utter scenester dont buy The Subways, they are only slightly better than The Others. Let me give you an example of some of their genius lyrics.
Mary is my best friend
She makes me my tea
She let's me stay around her place
When there's nowhere else to be
There's nothing in her bedroom
Just a bed and a TV
And it's okay for men aware
Just sit and drink my tea
fucking genius

let me give you another one
You are the sun
You are the only one
The heart is blue
My heart is blue for you

Be my, be my, be my little rock and roll queen
Be my, be my, be my little rock and roll queen

You are the sun
You are the only one
You are so cool
You are so rock and roll

Be my, be my, be my little rock and roll queen
Be my, be my, be my little rock and roll queen
Be my, be my, be my little rock and roll queen
Be my, be my, be my little rock and roll queen

You are the sun
You are the only one
You are so cool
It's all so rock and roll
utterly immense, my brain is overwhelmed with The Subways amazing intellect.

Do it for the prementioned gerbils... Ill be watching you :ninja:

I don't really like the vocalist in a lot of The Others' tracks. I think I prefer The Subways to The Rakes though pebble. Sorry about that. They're catchier. Think about it - a band could have really good lyrics, but be really boring.

/edit: Just had another listen-through of The Rakes/The Subways. Now I'm spoilt for choice! Bastards...

I wanna know if Modest Mouse's album is any good in your opinion

I'm gonna assume you're talking about "good news for people who love bad news".

Damn good album, in my opinion, but then I like indie-pop.

some people hated the album because it's departure from their older, weirder stuff, and also because the lyrics are so godamn depressing.

if you're more of a fan of 8:00 minute long distortion guitar craziness, pick up "the moon and antarctica" which is considered by the indie elites (the ones who didn't buy their newest album because they heard a song on the radio) to be their best album.

I have both. I like "good news" more, but "moon" is good, it's just that I tend to like tightly written pop songs rather than the craziness that modest mouse perfected.

I have just had a full concentrated listen-through of The Subways, and decided they sound like a dimmed down version of The Vines, with a bit of Be Your Own Pet etc. mixed in. I can't be arsed with that really ^_^.

Any Bright Eyes albums to recommend, anybody?

Another vote here for the Editors. I saw them earlier this year and they were awesome live. Bought their CD afterwards, top stuff. "Bullets" is awesome.

Also, another recommendation for Sigur Ros, it's great music for chilling out or working to. You also mentioned the Album Leaf - the Sigur Ros/Album Leaf song "Streamside" is just incredible

If we're allowed to ask for recommendations:
Basically, I can get one album out of this list. What should I get?

Mortiis - The Grudge
Nasum - Shift
Arch Enemy - Doomsday Machine
Mastodon - Leviathan
The Mad Capsule Markets - Best Of 1997-2004
Mistress - In Disgust We Trust
Ewigkeit - Conspiritus
Ephel Duath - The Painter's Palette
Citizen - Manifesto For A New Patriot
The Berzerker - S.T.
The Berzerker - Dissimulate
The Berzerker - World Of Lies
If I remember any more, I'll add them.

Now tell me, should I get Bright Eyes (probably Digital Ash In A Digital Urn) or British Sea Power (Open Season most likely)?

pebble_rebel

British Sea Power for the win. You cant go wrong with open season or decline of... Bright Eyes on the other hand is a precosious (cant spell) little twat.

Okay, I've decided that this time around, I'll buy Franz Ferdinand, The Bees, Editors and The Rakes. I'll get others another time.

I recommend The Beta Band - The Three EP's. Good album - reminds me of Eels, Beck and Lemon Jelly. Quite calming a lot of the time though.

I actually prefer the other 3 albums by the Beta Band though. Particularly Hot Shots II

Yes, The 3 EP's is definitely my least favourite beta album.

I bought heroes to zeroes, but I haven't got around to listening to it yet.

That's what long bus trips are for!

if anyone's going to the Phillidelphia cross country meet on saturday, I'll see you there.
