Link fans may need to brace themselves: According to Eurogamer, Shigeru Miyamoto, the creative genius and main-man behind Nintendo, has been quoted as saying that the upcoming "Twilight Princess" Zelda game will be "without a doubt, the last Zelda game as you know it in it's present form."

Miyamoto certainly hasn't been afraid to experiment with the games before: the odd "cell-shades" visual style of "Wind Waker" is evidence enough of that. But it's hard to believe that he or his company would simply end the series; one that rivals the Mario games in popularity and fandom. Especially since Nintendo hasn't been doing very well in the "console wars" with Sony and Microsoft. Here's hoping we haven't seen the last of everyone's favorite Ocarina playing hero.

A moments silence!

the ending of zelda we all knew it would come and here is the news right here in this one post....Look and Despair at this quote and Link...

All it means is the gameplay won't be exactly the same. They won't get rid of Zelda, it'd be like Sega ditching Sonic..

Could mean that their will be more but just in a different form. *crosses fingers*

Do you have some sort of syndrome that means you never read the end of sentences?

All he means is that the revolution is going to push interactivity to it's limits and the next Zelda will be very different from what it is currently.

They said the same thing about Metal Gear Solid and look a 4th is coming, it's not the end of the series

Youlikeyams?
14-09-2005, 04:24 PM
They didn't quite say that.
They said MGS was changing - they didn't say it was finished.
Between MGS2 and MGS3 Kojima simply announced that MGS was going under some radical changes - he never said it was ending.

The only time it came close to ending was when Kojima was thinking of standing down as director for MGS4 - and no-one can do MGS like Koj.

Well, that's not particulary suprising.
They've been ranting how the Revolution will "change the way we play games", so it stands to reason that Zelda will change to suit it.

God almighty this forum is filling with stupid people.

It says they will "change zelda" not "stop making it"

Can noone read anymore?

Oh noes. A change to the way zelda plays will mean the edn!

Seriously. We arn't anywhere near this yet, and who is to say that it won't make the game even better?

Wahoo
14-09-2005, 04:58 PM
oh the badness of misenterpretation.

AS YOU KNOW IT

that does not mean the series is off, not by a long shot

Oooh Yeah
14-09-2005, 05:31 PM
"yes, sorry millions of zelda fans, we know we are letting you down, and we know we are throwing away a job oppurtunity, a chance to make our console a success not to mention all the money, but we're going to have to kill-off zelda in the next episode of eastenders" [/hype] [/sarcasm]

Of course they won't stop making it... it's one of the biggest series ever by Nintendo, ever in the world probably. I doubt for even a second that Zelda would never again grace our screens

14-09-2005, 06:48 PM
Zelda will die when Nintendo dies. They'll never kill it off, simply because like Mario and Sonic, even if they bring out a relativly poor game with it's name on it, it'll still sell in the bucketloads. FF proved it with FFX-2. *cough*

People and websites like that make us all sad to be gamers.
Even the site misinterpreted. and it's Cell-shaded visuals not cell-shades, that makes no sense.
Also minus.

The new Zelda, it's not really good news that...

Please allow me to interrupt you by saying that you will have to be patient, really. This will be, without a doubt, the last Zelda game as you know it in its present form.

Search harder.

You see this can all be explained by maths:

(Nintendo+Radical Thinking) = Nintendo - Zelda

Nintendo - Zelda = Bankruptsy

Nintendo isn't getting rid of Zelda, it's just that some people can't read articles. I thought this was going to be about the Zelda delay. I would minus the thread starter, but it's only a mistake.

I bet the next zelda game after this has you playing a goron with a machinegun or something crazy.

maybe just a gameplay shakeup like mario sunshine was.

maybe we'll get a zelda game from the perspective of somebody who isn't link, a la "luigi's mansion". A game where Gannon is the main character would be totally fucking awesome.

A strategy game where you control Ganon and have to stop link. Interesting...

I was thinking more along the lines of "ganon goes on a rampage" type game, but now that you mention it, a "dynasty warriors" type shnizzy would be fun as heck as well.

I bet in 10000 years time (If the rapture hasn't come) we will be playing a version of Zelda that is almost reality, where you actually fight, and die, but the console respawns you. Nintendo without Zelda is like... nothing, it just wouldn't happen.

Games aren't easy to make you know? A lot of the best games now seem to be short (note I said a lot not all) and I would prefer a great short game to a longer one where they've simply added worse ideas to make it a bit longer. Take Halo 2 and God of War for example, both aren't very long, but still they are great games, don't say but I thought Halo 2 sucked because it's just an example.

7 years later and I still consider OoT to be the greatest game ever made. I don't mind if it gets delayed, as long as the final product is as good as the hype says it will be. Nintendo has quite a task at hand. They can't just churn out a run-of-the-mill game, they have to create something groundbreaking which people will be talking about 10 years from now.

No wonder they're trying to make sure everything is perfect.

personally, i think A Link to the Past (SNES - though I hear that recent GBA version is basically identical) is the best, but that's only due to my bias against the sudden urge in the mid 90's to make absoluely everything 3d and way too graphically complicated (yes, i think it's all unnecessary) just because the video game industry started leaping ahead too fast (I still think the 16-bit era was cut short a few years sooner than it should have been - but nobody else I know does).

I think you can guess what my thoughts on the new game will be, even before it's out: just another in a line of games I see as more 'flash' than is truly neccessary to be content (that's content = happy, not content = what's in it).

Well, we can probably lay this thread to rest now, as we know exactly what they meant: All the new Zelda games will be Revolution games, and thus be played with the crazy remote control thing, making them a wildly different gaming experience

didn't want to start a new thread, so I'll post this here.

I think (well, there's a possibility) that Zelda: Twilight Princess could be one of the cleverest marketing devices in history. Observe:

Us: OMG I will camp in front of the shop for Twilight Princess
Nintendo (at last minute, as with all N announcements): Sorry fellas, but TP is a Revolution game now.
Us: I don't care! Give it to me!
Nintendo: You'll need a revoluton to play it on.
Us: Fine, give us one, just give us the damn game

Or something like that. Anyway, any thoughts?
