Based on Xfm's brilliant Sex Line Rodeo. We need more silly threads.
My friends are a strange bunch. I talk to them about a wide variety of topics. They have learnt to tolerate my odd conversation topics and odder digressions into insanity.
However, I don't think they'll be prepared for this.
I'm going to use them as tools for my own evil betting thread. They will be the lottery, I will be the balls. Well, I'll be talking a lot of balls. Whether that's the same thing is up to you.
The idea is this. I will approach them on MSN and start talking about a fixed but apparently totally random topic. Some will play along, no doubt, and some will just try to ignore me. Some may even block me. It happens.
I will keep talking about it for as long as I can. However, I will stop the first time they try to change the subject or stop talking. This could be anywhere from in the first couple of lines to three pages later, depending on the person.
You have to bet on the amount of responses I'll get. Every time they hit enter to send me a message, it counts as a response, and i'll count every one - even the smiley-based ones - right up to the moment the change the subject. The person closest to the correct answer wins the whole pot of money. If no-one is within ten responses of the correct answer, I keep the whole lot, but I don't think that's likely.
I will be taking bets of 10 points a turn. I want to keep this nice and low, so as to be more of a fun then profitable thread. Besides, there's no point betting too high - you'd just end up winning your own money.
After the competition takes place, I will post a .txt document of the conversation from the point at which I first start talking about socks to the moment she changes the subject. This could either go very well or very badly, depending on the mood and reactiveness of the subject. Should they repeatedly snub me or try and change the subject before I've actually got a proper response, the winnings will go to the lowest better.
I will give you a brief description of my target each week, just so you can adjust your bets accurately.
The first target will be my friend Pratten. He is a thoughtful type, but he has been known to go on for hours on end about nothing at all. This could be quite interesting.
The subject of this conversation will be socks.
Place your bets, please! How many responses will I get if I engage Pratten in a conversation about socks?
