I think they rock really much. Alto now i listen to System of a Down :p

Metallica. Somewhat overrated especially people who say they're brilliant guitarists, they're quite good. Nothing really special, but then again I'm not into metal. Probably actually the best metal band out there, not keen on heavier stuff. So, yeah.

I quite like some of Metallica's stuff, though they went downhill after The Black Album. Btw, you should also check out Apocolyptica. They have an album of Metallica covers, done with cellos. If I remeber rightly, they've had a biiger reaction than Metallica sometimes.

Overated band. I like them but Kirk hamlet really is not that great at guitar.

They are an excellent band. Been a fan for about 7years or so. Black-St.anger not my favorite stuff. St.Anger SOUNDS FUCKING AWESOME If you watch SKOM. Love all their old stuff.
S&M and Garage Inc. are very good double cd sets. Too bad Cliff is dead...R.I.P Its also his the 19th year since he died on September 26th. He was a good bassist.

edit: Raven, Yes Apocalyptica did the 4 cello cover album. Very good stuff. I have a few of the songs, Im having trouble finding the CD in stores.

I like them, Ride the Lightning is probably their best album imho. Have to agree on KH being an overrated guitarist though, still doesn't mean he's crap.

Apocalyptica's version of their songs are really something, especially One, which is on Inquisition Symphony if you can get hold of that album.

I used to be a huge fan of Metallica, but I've hardly listened to them recently, I've moved into different fields (Taking Back Sunday, Brand New etc.). I still think they're an excellent band, if somewhat overrated. S&M is amazing though, the contrast between the orchestra and the band, but also the fact that they compliment each other so perfectly.

Master of Puppets is obviosley a classic, but I also like the Black album, I seem to be alone in that view for some reason...

But yeah, Kirk is an overrated guitarist, while he's good, there are better like Tom Morello and Tony Iommi...

yeah, MOP is a great album, along with kill em all, and justice for all, and ride the lightning, all truly brilliant

The symhony and metalica album is good, and st anger is fairly good, but different.
the reason why people dont like the black album is because they sold out when making it, made it so that it could be put on the radio, making them more money, unlike their albums before it

2) Does it matter that you listen to another band too? Just because you make a thread about Metallica, do you think people will string you up for listening to System Of A Down (hence the protecting :p i assume)

I would rule this thread 'gay', but I'm too tired. I was too busy watching the MIGHTY MIGHTY DieAwayFromMe down at Storm in Leister Square. If you weren't there, then you are not good.

As for me, I dislike metallica with a passion. I Think it's his voice. I can't stand it.

I didn't give a reason. No one asks me. No one needs to give a reason. If you don't like something, you don't need to explain why. If you do, then someone who loves the band is just going to defend them, starting a cussing match.

Example -

A: "I find Weebl and Bob 'gay'"
B: "Why?"
A: "Because I find the concept of two rocking eggs talking shit quite boring"
B: "I'll think you'll find that is the magic behind the genius."
A: "I'll think you'll find the opposite is true"
B: "I'll think you'll find I raped your mum"

I like quite a lot of Metallica's stuff but it is true that with hindsight the only albums I listen to are Kill em all, Ride the Lightning, ...and Justice for all and Master of puppets. I just like thrash metal. Enter Sandman curdles my milk.

BUT he said he "cant stand" metallica. thats different from not liking them. that implies you hate them, and you have a better reason than "not to my taste" to hate something. either that or he/she was being stupid and melodramatic

True. Metallica fans, remember the imfamous Skateboarding accident. James fucked his wrist up, and Kirks guitar tech came in for most of the entire tour while James sang. Instead of cancelling a tour(Which they should have, Save tour that Cliff died on...) they kept playing.

I love Metallica. I do like every CD, some of them more than others.

But I will agree that Tom Morello is probably better than Kirk.
