Good to see Ninty have done some proper advertising for DS instead of relying on cheap sexual "humour".
Open up and play.

I like "touch it" adverts..... But these will allow the parents to buy them for their childeren.
I like the second one its better that the first.

I know, the whole channel four business is great!
I always liked the Touch Me ads too...they were being sexual in a corny way...oh well.
Oooh Yeah

rad, i've always been fond of sony's attempts at advertising.. the third place ones being most vivid in my memory.. these are standard in my opinion.
nothing great about them.. but i did quite like the touch it adverts.. the tune in the was good, but really, if you think about the adverts set by companies like levis.. those crazy turnpike nutri grain adverts and the likes of guiness, these really aren't worthy of being noted.
I couldnt stand the "Third place" ones personaly...

They were made by David Lynch - and he's a weird chap...
Some PS2 adverts were good though, like the GT4 one and the Soul Calibur ones.
I've prefered sony's ads for a while now. TBWA (Sony's advertising agency) did a good job at promoting the PS1..you couldn't move for ads involving the controller shapes during the 90's.
I'm glad to see that they have dumped the "Touch me" idea...it just looked like they were trying to hard if you ask me. The N64 and Gamecube's early ads were far better if you ask me.
My favourite of all time though has to be one for a N64 racing game-i think it was formula 1 98. "Let's see that again, Let's see that again!"
The early Gamecube ones of randoms in giant floaty boxes was kinda strange...

Personally I'm quite fond of the crazy ones by Nintendo like this:

There was also a funny one for Pikmin 2 but I can't find that one. :(
Oh yeah...there was a one foe Donkey Kong Country that was funny like that too...featured DK's pet human, Dave.

I hate those crazy ones. They make no sense and are annoying.
I've also seen Mario Kart DS ones and Nintendogs ones of the new ad type. They're OK, but OK at best.
...Apart from the Meteos one. There's a Hitchhiker's Guide reference.
Oooh Yeah

are we talking about the same DS ads?
a month or so ago there were some racey ads where a guy ran around a photogenic city using his finger to move the sun, and some other stuff.. he put some dog turd into a dogs ass just before stepping on it. they were good IMO
the channel 4 comedy ones 'touch me' are sickening, mostly featuring old women on planes reaching towards some guys crotch.

I always thought it was a risky venture doing a series of ads linking your product in the public's psyche with the words third place.
It all could have gone horribly wrong for Sony if the public had gotten the wrong idea...
Not that that would have happened as their marketing department had already carpet-bomb promoted the Playstation brand to such a degree that there were hordes of mindless drones programmed to buy whatever they brought out.

I've always thought Sony have done an amazing job of marketing Playstation, the adverts generally seem quite "cool" without ever looking like they try too hard. It was suddenly trendy to play games in 1996, that was crazy. I've not been very keen on DS adverts so far, but those print ads up top aren't bad, I like the AWDS one, mainly because of 'cake' :)
The only Sony ad I have ever come close to liking was the one in French, where the guy eats the PS2 in a resturant...that was close to its realease date I believe.

Speaking of silly game adverts, look at this (www.jilted.nildram.co.uk/stuff/eqps2.wmv).
Words can't do it justice.
Thats possibly the worst acting ever...

I like how the girl apparently plays her Playstation standing up, presumably because the action is simply too intense to remain seated.

Well, I have to be honset, I sometimes have to stand up and stand as close to screen as possible...I don't know why, I just can't help myself :(
There is one thing i think when i see that advert...

talking about standing up.
dont you just hate it when people are playing driving games and they move to the way they stear. some times it is funny.
When I was a wee lad, I used to play my Master System with Sonic the Hedgehog built in and lean in the direction Sonic was running...and bounce on the floor when he jumped.
Good times.

My friends tend to stand up during fighting games when it gets intense. So nobody else can see. So he wins. Deliberate or not, it's a crafty scheme.

I did catch myself leaning to avoid the walls while playing Wipeout Fusion recently. Oh, the shame :(
Heh just think, with the Revolution controller the leaning will make a difference...

And Sony's Ape Escape ads in Japan are incredibly...scary :p

I think we should just make a thread about ads :p
But on the other hand - I like Nintendo's new approach: makes the parents less worried. :p
For Nintendo people - GBMicro ad: http://gameads.gamepressure.com/tv_game_commercial.asp?ID=2883
Only 60 quid for one of them on import :D

Best. Advert. Ever.
Though I'd rather play with that than an actual PS2..
